Birds of Prey recently came out on DVD.

When this series was on air, I was barily aware it even existed. I was always at work when it came on. I was never aware of fan reactiosn to it, either.

Well, I picked up the DVD, and am currently a little more than half way through it, and I'm curious as to what others thought of this series.

Personally? I think it had potential that was unexploited. The changes made to the characters don't bother me.
My biggest issue is the cheesefactor. They tried too hard to make if "comicbookie" and "dynamic," with lots of hokey music and sound effects, and lots of extreme angles and spinning the screen for no apparent reason.

But you can tell where this series was a jumping point for Smallville. I can see where they learned from mistakes they made and toned down a lot of things, while amped up others for Smallville.

I think if I had been looking foreward to this series, it would have been a letdown. However, coming in completely blind, long after it's over, I'm don't hate it. There are lots of little things I don't like, lots of little things that are annoying:
Huntress' inability to act any emotion beyond calm and anger.
Inability to use any named villains beyond Lady Shiva and Harley Quinn. Not that I'm expecting Poison Ivy or Riddler every episode, but all the generic metas get boring.
The afore mentioned zany camera angles and rotating zoom-ins/zoom-outs.
The costumed hero scenes are about as cheesy as the Burton batmovies (Where they sadly took their inspiration from)

Well... these three things are more or less top of my list as the standouts.

Lots of stuff I think they did well...
the cast I think had a good vibe going.
The basic plot and set up for this series
Huntress can't act, but she's pretty enough I don't mind as much.
And I really can't find anything wrong eith the plots of the episodes themselves.

Any other opinions on this series?

I saw the set at walmart the other day and thought about buying it, for the simple fact that Huntress is a hottie. I know however that if I do buy it it's gonna piss me off somehow or another

i watched this show when it was on, i liked that they kept huntress' earth two origin intact and that dinah was young, overall the show was corny but not unwatchable. I enjoyed the episodes i caught and will look for the set next time i'm at wal-mart

Yep, Earth Two origin is still one of my fave facts bout the show. Overall though, it was just okay. I don't think I'd ever go back and watch it again.

I used to watch this a bit, it wasn't bad... I may pick this up myself just to pad my DC collection. I have most DC DVD sets, where as I'm a little pickier with my Marvel stuff.

I stumbled upon it on TV one night by accident during it's original run. At the time, I thought it was great, sure a tad cheesy, but liked it overall. I was disappointed when it ended, but half the time I forgot to watch it. I've been meaning to pick up the DVD to revisit it, but never have. Maybe I will add it to my Christmas list.

Yeah, it's kind of cheesy in a good way.

The price tag isn't bad on it at wally world, I think it was just 20 bucks. I don't even remember this show coming on is the sad part about it.

I'm glad to see so many people, while acknowledging the show's flaws, it doesn't seem to be unanimously hated.

As I've said, while it has elements that I find annoying, I've been pretty entertained by it.

$13 at my local Walmart. Of course, I don't know what it is in canada, or other walmarts (I have seen big differenced in DVDs and games between different walmarts)
