Really? Wow. She's my favorite part of the new trilogy. Finn, Poe, Kylo, etc so far haven't had any character moments that made me think they are anything more than cardboard cut outs. I thought Finn had growth at the end of TFA when he stood his ground against Kylo, but that all disappeared when he was trying to run away again in TLJ.

Rey I've really enjoyed because she's so focused on trying to find her place in the universe, where she is, where she was from, and where she's supposed to be, that she has infinite possibilities as a character. Unlike previous Jedi we have seen, who have a focused reason for being a Jedi (Anakin to free his mom, Luke to follow his father), Rey is choosing the path to learn more about herself. It's an interesting motivation.

I'm just a very casual Starwars fan (seen the movies, bought none of the cartoons, books, toys, games, or other extended media) so my opinion probably counts for very little here. I just wanted to share a different viewpoint.

Training helmet? Why she is already more powerful than all the others with no training?

People hate her because she has no training and everything came to her without working for it.

Looks good, but will definitely have to see the movie. I don't like removing the light up saber arm. Or the seamless arms for the most part.

It's not personal. I hate the movies, not the characters. Most fans don't care about the new characters because they're so hollow and undeveloped (the writing is so rotten) that there's no reason to care. What they did to Luke in particular was atrocious, like a stranger deliberately smashing your favorite toy or burning your favorite book.

She washed the old Jakku mummy wrappings, so that's something. Why she needs a training droid is anyone's guess, since her powers are already godlike.

Well, to be totally honest, ALL the star wars movies are horribly hollow and undeveloped. George Lucas was repeatedly quoted even back in the 70's saying that the dialog doesn't matter. For mindless fun, they are great. For a deep character study, they are severely lacking.

As for Luke, I thought TLJ was the most believable thing Luke did. He's EXACTLY like Yoda and his father. Life doesn't go his way, he instantly gives up. Yoda was unable to defeat Sidius? He runs away to a swamp instead of leading the resistance. Anakin loses Padme, he shuts himself into the Darth Vader persona and becomes the Emperor's lapdog. His ideals and sense of self gone. Luke loses a few students and his nephew, he hides. Yeah. Jedi are wusses. Completely within character. ESPECIALLY with Luke. Since Yavin he's seen as this miracle worker. Everything goes for him. He defeats the Emperor, blows up death stars, all these wonders... his first personal defeat and he can't handle it. He's a millennial from far, far away.

As for Rey, my guess... and this is pure conjecture on my part... she's a 2nd attempt at a sith creating life from midiclorians (Palpatine says that Plageis told him everything he knew)… She is the personification of the force, and a better attempt than Anakin was. Explains her natural skill.

That, and a lone girl stranded on a planet with a bunch of nasty older men, I'm sure she's quite well trained in combat to defend herself from perverts.

Damn, likeness looks way off. Feels like it's been a while since I can confidently say that about Hot Toys.

Now THAT I can agree with. Not quite sure who they digitally scanned... almost looks like a hybrid between Daisy and Anna Paquin. Thankfully the craftsmen in the dark recesses of Hong Kong and China will fix this.... maybe it'll serve to bring them together... Peace through piracy.

I've never seen anything that says HT does digital scanning, they sculpt. Maybe digitally, but it's still not a face scan.

Regardless... whomever they were looking at, and sculpting/scanning/ or scribbling with crayon... it wasn't Daisy Ridley. Jawline, eyebrows, and eyes are off. Ears are right, and mouth is close enough. hmmmm...

Well, she was meant to be the replacement of the old crew, which I am ok with since I completely understand they cannot be the stars forever.

However, there is nothing interesting about her so far other than she being this random nobody who is suddenly becoming stronger to the level of being a Jedi master. There are no obstacles for her to really overcome other than not knowing what to do next. The main antagonist she might face has already had his ass handed to him by her in the very first movie of this trilogy with zero training.

Going to this training droid, I wouldn't be surprised if the droid exists to make a point in the movie that she is definitely beyond the need for training.

All of this might at first seem like merely reasons for being uninterested in the character. However, these same reasons make the character unlikable in this context. She is essentially acting more powerful than Vader (who was supposed to be the chosen one) or Luke. Rey is so powerful right now that I doubt even Yoda would stand a chance against her. I wouldn't be surprised if we have the Emperor and Vader come back in the upcoming movie, just to get owned by her too, and make her power level explicit! So in this way, she is indirectly taking a dump on all the beloved characters.

P.S. The only way this trilogy can be seen as interesting now is if you think of Kylo as the protagonist. We would have to root for him to finally become strong enough to beat Rey and bring order to the galaxy!

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooookay. We'll just have to agree to disagree. I don't believe Anakin IS or WAS the chosen one, just because Liam Neeson says so. Maybe Rey is ACTUALLY the Chosen One. Also, since we don't know her midichlorian level, for all we know, she's 2000* higher than Yoda and Anakin combined. We don't know EVERYTHING about the force. It's a rather vague (and convenient) power. Like I said before, with how the dark side comes to her willingly, and she embraced it without fighting (which scared Luke) I'm pretty sure she's got Sith heritage somewhere, somehow.

For me, Kylo is the least interesting. He's a grown man throwing toddler temper tantrums. If I want that, I watch the news.

Actually, what you say is indeed the problem. Watching TLJ makes you undermine the status of the characters in the previous films. That is bound to make you hate the new character, unless they are interesting (but as I have said, they are not that interesting).

Sure, but this just makes TLJ a bad movie. One of the greatest revelations of the movie, after TFA built up the question of Rey's lineage, was to say that its nothing special. It was almost on the same level as Luke throwing the Light saber over his shoulder dismissively. Rian Johnson thought subverting expectations translated to good story telling, so that is how these things went! If JJ decides to reverse those choices, then TLJ inevitably look cheap and aged. It would seem that the chapter merely existed to offend the audience (or shock value / experiment in subverting expectations).

Oh, I never meant to say he was the most interesting character. My point was that at least we can have an ark if the story was about him overcoming all odds, beating the enemy that handed his ass to him in the first part, and becoming the hero that leads the First Order to triumph! But, as we all know, the protagonist is Rey (and we are supposed to consider the Empire/First Order to be definitely bad without an explanation. This was a weakness in the original trilogy too...). What sort of ark are we to have now in regards to her? She is already at the end of the ark since TLJ.

This is why it would be interesting to see Kylo develop to finally beat Rey.

Only problem is there’s a whole bunch of instances of Anakin being confirmed explicitly as the Chosen One all within canon material ranging from The Clone Wars to Disney’s own produced comics.
Making it so he wasn’t the Chosen One renders the first 6 movies redundant; it will be far more Interesting to see if JJ has managed to reaffirm that Anakin was/still is The Chosen One in spite of Rey and her utter unstopability. Either way, I’ve decided I don’t have to accept a thing Disney have created as canon if I don’t like it. If it ain’t from Lucas, it’s fan fiction and I’ll pick and chose what aspects I enjoy.

Yeah, but that infers that I actually care to argue Starwars endlessly all day. I do not. I'm honestly shocked I've maintained interest THIS long. For me, they are stupid fun movies, and that's really all.

I like Rey. As someone who grew up in the middle of nowhere desert of the Southwest, I feel for her. For me, Luke wasn't all that. He was whiny in ANH, Empire he was annoyingly whiny to Yoda, and ROTJ he had a slow sword fight with his dad for an hour, and he didn't ACTUALLY change his dad through reasoned conversation or love, but because Vader didn't wanna see the Emperor cook him. No love. No reminders of his mother (which I'm sure SOMEONE in the Rebels had the story of by now). Vader's redemption is hollow, imho, and more for time than actual story. ROTJ is worse than TLJ and ROTS on my list.

Rey's parents thing didn't bother me. I expected it, honestly. Too soon a reveal. I thought the reveal of Kylo being Ben was too soon. Luke's nonchalant attitude reminds me of Yoda's silliness when he first met Luke. Also, like Luke, Yoda ran away at his first failure into pity and self-exile just because he couldn't beat Sidius at their first fight. For him, it was better to wallow in the mud for 30 years than help protect millions of people from a tyrannical government lead by his order's archenemy.

As stated before, I don't think Rey's origin is answered. I think it was an attempt of Snoke, thru Ren, to weaken Rey. Create doubt in her mind. Confusion. The path to the dark side. I hope my origin is right, then it ties Rey to the prequels AND the OT, but if they have another origin, I'll be good with that too, long as I get fun effects, ridiculous battle scenes, and hours of poorly written dialog with choppy character development, like I have in the previous 8 movies.

Nah. I hope she cuts him across the nose AGAIN and says "This time, keep it there, or the next time, my sword goes UP it!"

All stemming from Liam Neeson's conversation with Mommy. She says he was a virgin birth. For all we know, she repressed a violent event. It is possible. We know his origin only from conversation. For all we know, like I said, he could have been created by Plaguis's conjurings. Who honestly knows? George Lucas is a total hack, so I don't trust his version of ANYTHING. What we got on screen and what George originally wrote in his treatment are TOTALLY different, and the adaptations by far more talented writers, directors, and producers than what that Hutt did. He couldn't even write a decent end for the first trilogy, so he recycled ANH for ROTJ. I found the Starkiller base in FA not so much a "cop-out" but an indictment of George Lucas's lack of creativity. As Lucas got more control (ROTJ & prequels) the worse the stories got. So forgive me if I don't give Lucas much credit for anything except for being able to bring BETTER people into his project.

I do not consider Luke "all that" either. However, the problem with a narrative of this type is that you need to have development. While we may/may not have cared for Luke, we still saw an arc for him. He seemed somewhat special (so just like in some parts of TFA for Rey), then he got owned by someone way more powerful than him in TES (kind of like what happened to Kylo Ren lol), and then came back stronger in ROTJ.

The problem for Rey fans is that she does not have any obstacle like Vader to overcome (except.... herself perhaps?). She almost went the full distance of zero to hero in TFA, but in case there was any doubt, it was put to rest in TLJ. So whats left?

This has always been the weak point of the series. When I was a kid, I thought these fights were epic and made me fall in love with the series (I doubt I would have ever liked SW back then if not for the sabers). But, looking at them now, they have abysmal choreography. The KOTOR shorts by Bioware have more badass fights than this (if you do not know what I am referring, to you have to check them out b/c I am sure you will love it ).

The only problem today is that Star Wars isn't that visual effects juggernaut it used to be. We have the MCU, Avatar, DCU, Jurassic Park series, etc etc.

So I really feel that they should have just gone back in time to a setting like KOTOR or far into the future. They shouldn't have to have another trilogy to closeout the Skywalker saga. All they have done is kill old characters. They killed Han in the first, Luke in the second, and likely will kill Lando and Leah in the third lol. All for what? Its not even an interesting story.

Meh...

Rey kinda bites.

Bad story telling, crappy characters, awful movies....yikes. TROSW looks to be a hot mess.
