Well I've been collecting for the past decade or half decade....this past month I have acquired just about every objective I've set out to do with collecting.
Just today completed a 15 year long hunt for a Grail that I haven't seen or touched since the early 90's, and I ended a 10 year long hunt this past week too. I have been having such a successful month and the past year has been a crazy one with collecting I think It's time to retire from figure collecting. Sorta an odd thing to post here on a Toy Forum but I've met my objectives sure there are a few things still out there to possibly get but right now....I've built my collection to what I want and I am not finding much out there left to get! Just turned 27 and and I'm pleased that by that point I've managed to get the vehicles and other stuff for the collection I've been after for so long. Not sure what I'll do now, but other than my ebay sales and getting ready to work on moving into Job Training I'll be spending less time online potentially when that starts up. Things moving in the right direction now and I think it is time to pretty much take a long deserved rest and finally step back and marvel at my collection's size and look over how it's changed over the past 3 years since I started documenting things. |

That sense of accomplishment is great and means a lot for the true collector, not just toys but of anythings so Congrats and good luck with the job training

So what were the items that led to your collection being completed?

The Royal Naboo Cruiser from Episode I, and a Gi Joe Terror Drome.
Last major thing I'd want would be Fortress Maximus and the Gi Joe Defiant Shuttle Complex. But those two I'll always drool over, they'll be something that will always remain out of reach for my budget for now but with the size of my collection the way it is and how much I've pruned it over the past month with purging allot of stuff and clearing out old impulse buys and selling off stuff like crazy I have had not to mention a great month but a PRODUCTIVE MONTH. And I've been in a rut the past half year, I mean to finally get something you haven't seen or touched for 15 years.....15 YEARS that feeling of well victory....cannot be matched by anything else. You can check my blog and you can see the progression of objectives. I set out my objectives and I hunt them down. Nothing can stop me even if I don't have much money I'll freakin' get it to get what I need. Tyjos's Space So once the Terror Drome Arrives, that will mark the end of my collecting. |

I want a Defiant Shuttle Complex as well.
I wouldn't mind a Flagg either.

Unfortunatly I have no parking spaces for those two but the next one I'd love to get would have to be Fort Max but can't afford to spend $500-$1000 for that toy.
But this has been the final push forward with my Master To Get List which now I can pretty much put away for a while. I need to further organize my room and right now need to change around a few things too. Between Figure Collecting as well as collecting the Fathom Series Art Prints for the past year or two....Collecting has been quite expensive for me so I think I'll be glad too to not have those obessive collecting urges at times to pick up things. I think If I do buy anything else for now will just be some stragglers from my other smaller lists for other series right now it's mostly Star Wars Vehicles but just going to take a rest...Just has been a rather long road for collecting for me for sure from Anime all the way to Transformers, Star Wars,Star Trek, Gundam,Comics here and there, getting my DVD Library filled with what I've been looking for on DVD for years [Got the entire series of Stargate on DVD -SG1,SGA,SGU,3 Movies- along with all of Star Trek too] so Once I have gotten my primary objectives taken care of..... Just have been getting such a high this past month from things going right It's a great time to just Retire now. [Should also mention you know, would be nice to get out more plus find a girl so really having some money to spend on the girl would awesome so can't do that sorta thing being stuck at home searching ebay for figures all the time so I'm moving forward in life] Last edited by Tyjos Azari; 09-28-2011 at 06:38 PM.. |

Sounds like a plan.
What kind of Star Trek stuff do you like? I watched a lot of TNG growing up and had a bunch of Playmates stuff including the bridge of the Enterprise.

The local collector toy shop has the Defiant Shuttle Complex... or at least they did one of the last times I was in. That thing is SO COOL.

I have the Crusader, which is just the shuttle, but would love the whole thing.
I saw one in box at a convention once, its pretty mammoth.

The TWOK Phaser I have on display too, would love for them to release the Assault Phaser as well. One thing I'd love to get woudl be that ultra expensive Tricorder Prop that's out and a Thousand Plus bucks for that Phaser Rifle that Entertainment Earth Has. In fact I'd love to get it to where I can have me a Chair that looks like Captain Sisko's Chair....in fact I do need to find the DST Captain Sisko with Captain's Chair to finish off that [and a few other Enterprise Figures too still need to locate the Enterprise Bridge Sets and maybe the Phase Pistol and Communicator from that series and the elusive Mirror Enterprise from Enterprise as well] I mean there will always be some items out there still to get but right now I'm satisfied....Plus you know collecting toys beyond age 27 sounds kinda weird possibly -Maybe depends on things I guess- I have been outgrowing stuff this past year first off was starting to outgrow forums and wasting time online so moving forward. Interesting fact for you all if you don't already know is I am a disabled individual,to have acquired this much and worked this much on my collection and everything else well...it's a pretty good accomplishment. [I have aspergers, and some physical defects due to my genetics and lack of some fine hand eye coordination due to a surgery I had years ago when I was in middle school -one of those life changing things there-so with things sorta stacked against me so to speak I think I've beaten the odds for now] The Great thing I have learned over the years is this: My Collection has paid for itself most times, given what's been spent on a majority of what I've sold and how much I made which in turn allowed me to get more items each month and then repeat the process I've managed to literally on a very tight budget expand out allot and when needed to cut back when things get tight. Along with dealing with obsessive urges at times which lead to impulse buys, I've dealt with those now too so Toys really right now don't hold much interest to me since I don't play with em. I let my nephew play with some figures now when he comes so next time they come this way he'll have some cool toys to play with [I've always sent some back with him too but my brother said he had too many of em, in fact he has my first collection which was Turtles Figures from the 80's which has the Sewer Den and Technodrome] So I mean when the Terror Drome arrives I know for afact I'm gonna Retire after that I might just be too busy doing sales and clearing stuff out. I'm sure that once I get tired of some more figures and do one last major "Pruning" So to speak of this collection....just one other thing I'm glad about is finally getting out of some debt -partially due to this collection as well- this month that means I get to keep my profits finally. |

The Terrordome, I can't believe that is what you've been after all this time. I don't mean that negatively, I just mean that it played a pivotal role in my childhood. That is so weird. Anyway, congrats on moving forward with your ambitions, I wish you all the luck in the world.

I mean the Terror Drome I only had one my entire life, sold it to one of my friends back in my hometown and never saw one ever again.
Since then I've wanted the thing after I found out how cool it is later on.... After all can't keep sitting around looking for toys on ebay so been moving on with my plans for a while so this makes it even sweeter to find this as I get ready to finish with toys. Yeah, I vaguely mentioned this toy during a rant in another thread not too long ago. I didn't know its official name, but I was once graced with its presence as well. The only way I see myself reacquiring it is if i have a son, which I'm not planning to do anytime soon.

I set this thing as a grail objective long ago since I learned how awesome it was after re-reading the Gi Joe Marvel Issues.
One of those things that I'd set for a "End of the Collecting Phase" Goal, looks like I was right in doing that. I'll have to dig my Gi Joe Figures I have in storage totes out and man the base when I get it. Still, it's a good thing to finally know I have one on the way so I'm gonna be pleased when UPS Brings this thing. Seller I bought it from is apparently cleaning out a Gi Joe Collection so that's what I love about ebay at times, people clearing collections out and always coming across the good stuff.... I've had just about all the other Gi Joe Vehicles I've wanted over the past couple years this one just was always elusive always was rising in crazy prices to $150+ on ebay and shipping was crazy on some of em so saw it cheap and pretty much said "GET THAT SUCKER THEN CALL IT A AWESOME MONTH" |

Congrats on getting some of your biggest Grails. It's always a great sense of accomplishment when that happens. I'm still working on several of mine, both major and minor. Major ones include: G1 Fort Max, Scorponok, Metroplex and Trypticon (each complete and in that order), ROTF HA Mudflap and Alternators Swerve. Some minor ones are the remaining PCC and Animated toys I'm missing to complete both series.
Even if you aren't going to be online as much, the best thing about sites like Toyark is you don't have to be a collector to participate.

I think over the course of my collecting years, I've managed to get most of my grails; G1 Scorponok, Imperial Shuttle, AT-AT, Predaking, and others. Now that I've basically stopped collecting, I can look back and be satisfied knowing I had the experience hunting them all down, and then seeing them in my hands for the first time.

Congrats!
I had a major milestone last year when I finally got all the G1 figures I wanted (my aim when I started collecting), I've since aquired a couple of new aims - complete teams of Thundercats and MU 90's X-men, which requires Bandai and Hasbro actually producing the rest of them.

Good for you and congrats on how far youve come. It's easier to "retire" from collecting when you only collect certain toy lines and dont just buy anything that you deem as cool. I dont see any relief for me as I collect a few different toy lines and try to pick up anything else that strikes me as being neat.

Well to me the endless stream of items on my Master To Get list kept getting bigger at times I had to have an endgame when it comes to collecting.
So Set it at the Terror Drome, always saw it but was expensive but found one and had a short mental debate cause once I get it the driving urge to find it would be gone....but now once this thing arrives it's got a place all ready for it and I know it'll probably need some cleaning and finding a few minor small pieces along with the Firebat for it which should be much easier than finding the actual Base itself. I mean I've collected pretty much the past entire past decade, becoming more active since 2005 or so and it is satisfying to limit to one line I've been all over the place and that is so financially not to mention mentally draining at times that it's can drive you crazy. Another thing that's become a realization sorta over the past year or so is that most of this stuff really just sits around and I end up selling it 8 months later. Course now I've cleared a bulk of the excess stuff laying around still need to clear some storage totes but still has been rather fun collecting. Always good too to meet fellow collectors over ebay when I sell em some stuff and they usually become my repeat customers...always work out some great deals with helping fellow collectors find some things that the crazy sellers want crazy prices for just don't see the point in trying to gouge or scalp the price on something just cause it's rare. |

Now that you have the Terror Dome, what is your plan for it? Does it sit in the middle of your living room, or is it intended as a gift for your kids? I'm just curious....

Yea exactly, just because someone gets a next to nothing or free far from complete USS Flagg doesnt mean it still isnt an awesome score.

I'm going to probably let my Nephew play with this thing just to see the reaction on his face -He calls me "Cool" cause I have all these huge toys in my room course my Niece always notices the "Girls" anime figures when they get the rare chance to visit my room when they're accompanied by my brother- LOL! Well around my area pickings for Gi Joe pretty much are non existent plus I don't get out to go find things often so I'm limited to ebay mostly. [I don't deal on forum boards cause I hear far too often of someone getting ripped off so I avoid that pit fall there] I mean right now the collection will remain on display, then maybe in a few years go into storage, or when my Nephew grows older -I have two Nephews so I might have to have some stuff for my younger one from my sister's family so I always like letting em play with some stuff or watching some of the DVDs like Transformers G1 or Gi Joe that I have in the DVD Library- So It's good to collect something I can pass on. After all how many of you when you were a kid had a relative that had all those cool looking stuff that they let you played with? Still the Terror Drome is awesome even if it's just a round plastic base for figures but it's just something that has always been cool and to literally find one at around 15 years from the last time I had one....this also will bring back some memories too so good to have something like that around. And on the subject of people who get stuff like the terror drome for free, it's all Luck or they had the money for it... some people can find em others can't so nothing to really be negative about. It to me has all been about patience and having at least some goal set to work towards finding. |
