If you spray with a glossy clear coat first it actually makes scribing in lines with a micron a lot easier. Stray marks clean up easily with a q-tip too. And actually, even easier than microns, when you gloss coat first, is filling in lines using a wash of black paint. Since the glossines creates a capillary effect you only have to lightly touch the line with a small paint brush and it practically paints itself lol. I used to do a combination of wash and microns on gundam kits back in the day. And when you're all done you hit it with the matte clear coat.
I've never heard of spraying a gloss clear coat before a paint wash so thank you for the tip off for that. I've tried doing washes in the past for web line and while they were ultimately successful, I was always frustrated with how long it took me to do them. |

My Walmart clearance priced the Optimus Primal re-issue down to $20 so I absolutely nabbed one. The colors and paint apps aren't totally exact to the original but it's still the same fun gimmicky '90s toy, plus at that price I wasn't not going to get Optimus Primal. I then found the Thor 4 Jane and Groot Marvel Legends at my other Walmart.

Finally found Lady Loki at a random GameStop, while also stumbling across a lone Gwen Stacy at a nearby comic shop.

I got the Lego Boba Fett's Starship set now that the price has gone down, it's actually been down ($40 from $50) for a bit now but I just finally acted on it. I really like Legos but I rarely find myself buying them anymore and even then I tend to stick to the smaller sets ($30 and below). Anyway I did get this set and overall I really like it. The primary build is of course Fett's Firespray (which no longer has a name) and it's quite nice for a scaled down version of the relatively iconic ship. They did a great job of packing in details and play-value, although the cannons at the bottom are disproportionately large. The pull-out handle on the back is well engineered, the "wings" auto-rotate with gravity, and I like how the stud-blasters are positioned roughly where the ship's rapid-fire blasters are as can be seen in AotC. Due to the reduced size the cockpit loses out the most, there's only room for one (this charmingly reminds me of the old Kenner Slave I). If you just follow the instructions then when seated in the upright flying position Boba looks like he's pressed against the windshield, sitting there with nothing to do. So I used some of the spare pieces after the build was done to mock up the control console and I think it turned out pretty well, I had to attach it where his feet plugged in but he still snugly fits and now he looks like he's actually flying the ship. There is a secondary little vehicle with a ladder which serves to prop up Fett's ship so you can display it in flying position but without additional user-building it's not a very sturdy hold. Finally the two included minifigs are Boba Fett as seen in Mandalorian season 2 after he repainted his armor and Din Djarin. They look great overall with nice little printed on details but I do think I'd have preferred Fennec over Din as Boba's buddy for this set. I know it initially released last Summer when they were still focused on Mando season 2 merch but even then it had already been established that Fett and Shand were partners. So yeah it's clearly not to scale but I really like this set for the price and the smaller size makes it easier to display.

Got the Tusken Boba Fett. I haven't seen any new Black Series in stores for a while because they kinda all gorged on restocking the wave with general Lando and Aurra Sing, but I got a little lucky and caught this one from an Amazon seller for retail price. This look didn't last particularly long in The Mandalorian but it's how we were teased and then outright given his official return, really then it became a more featured look of his thanks to all of those flashbacks in his own show. If it weren't for those Lawrence of Arabia parts of the series I might not have gone for this figure but they clearly worked for me because here I am with the toy. He's got his Gaffi stick, cycler rifle, and pistol which all feature storage options on the figure and then thankfully his soft-goods outer cloak can fairly easily be opened and gathered behind him to reveal the sculpted details of the figure. I mean this is also how he actually wore it on the show too so it would definitely have been a bummer if the toy was stuck in covered bathrobe mode. The cloak seems like it might interfere but all of the articulation works well. The Temuera Morrison likeness is pretty good but the scars might be throwing it off some, actually I think to be more accurate the scarring should be more severe looking since he hadn't started using the bacta tank yet. I'd say overall it's a nice figure if you like this look for Boba, but now I still gotta hunt for the throne room version.

I need a few of those 3.75" Death Watch dudes, but I wonder if I am the only one who doesn't like Ashoka with the baggy Ninja style pants... I thought the previous VC version with her normal blue-ish grey skirt and armor is her best look.

Thanks bud.
Ahsoka's Clone Wars S7 look is definitely better, especially for the TVC figure. However, her Mando S2 look is better in the Black Series due to Hasbro trying to retool the Rebels Ahsoka figure into a Clone Wars S7 Ahsoka. |
