Gentleman! you see before you the most articulated Mario figures on the market!
seriously, mario is a moneymaker, any toymaker would be happy to make figures from this license and they give it to k'nex? Seriously? WTF? |

That's not how licensing works at all. K'Nex had to pay for that license, and pay a ton of money at that. Companies don't give out licenses. A potential licensee has to submit a business plan, estimated return on investment reports, among other things. In some cases they even need to bid on those licenses.

Am I not allowed to find it odd that k'nex or that company that makes vinal toys has the money to buy the license to a profitable character like Mario and not one of the larger companies? These are pretty much KO legos with mario tossed into the mix for crying out loud. |

Nintendo still has to decide whether or not to give the license to them.
Am I not allowed to find it odd that k'nex or that company that makes vinal toys has the money to buy the license to a profitable character like Mario and not one of the larger companies? These are pretty much KO legos with mario tossed into the mix for crying out loud. However, the K'Nex brand is a profitable one. K'Nex branded Nintendo merchandise does nothing to tarnish the Nintendo properties. And if a company with a good reputation and a profitable business plan offers a few million dollars for a license, you don't turn it down. Also, Global Holdings produces the Super Mario toys currently on the market. They, from what I can tell, only produce Super Mario toys. So I'd say they have a pretty solid hold on the license for action figures, which is why no one can step up. |
