This is just the old figure, but more comic-accurate as it should have been the first time...

It just seems like McFarlane is trying to suck on purpose for their Batman figs. And then slap on new paint and resell the same junk.

I keep finding it funny how McFarlane keeps just repainting and retooling DC Multiverse to sell a "new" figure, but other lines of their's like My Hero Academia feature multiple heads and what not.

so I guess at this point literally every figure McFarlane makes we should just expect another figure of the same thing with a slightly different paint app and diff packaging. its so gross that they do this. at least the exclusives aren't something anyone actually needs which is why maybe they are the one exclusive you can find at retail. cant wait to see the suicide squad slight repaints packed in non build a figure packaging to be announced a month after the movie hits.

Todd's been doing this thing of releasing variants for years. Funny how people are still bitching about this.

The license to make DC toys is likely more expensive than a lot of other IP.

What's even funnier is that the people complaining about the variants act like McFarlane is the only company who releases them.

What other company is doing variants with one different accessory?

It can be more than one accessory or an altered deco when there is a re-release. This Batman doesn't feature any new accessories. He just comes in a new, more accurate deco.

*Neca's 2 pack with movie Shredder and Splinter includes a pair of slippers and a pizza slice to sit on Splinter's head which weren't included in the SDCC and Gamestop releases.

*Neca's 2 packs for the movie Turtles include extra bandana pieces.

*Star Wars Black Series Beskar Mando was re-released as a deluxe figure with more accessories and a removable helmet.

*Power Rangers Lightning Collection Lost Galaxy Red Ranger was released as a single and in a 2 pack, with each release having different accessories.

*Power Rangers Lightning Collection Goldar was released with his full wings as a Gamestop exclusive and then given a standard release with his wing nubs.

*Transformers War For Cybertron has Walmart exclusives that feature a premium deco but are otherwise the same as the standard release. Examples include Cheetor, Rattrap, Optimus Primal, Siege Megatron, and Earthrise Optimus Prime.

*Marvel Legends re-released the comic Venom from the Absorbing Man wave in the Monster Venom wave. The new release included a new alternate head and a symbiotic accessory.

*Marvel Legends also re-released their first Carnage figure from the Ultimate Goblin wave in the Monster Venom wave with a Cletus Kassidy head and extra symbiote hand weapons.

*Marvel Legends has also re-released several of the MCU figures with better decos or extra accessories. Examples are IW Thanos BAF, Iron Man Mark 50, Iron Spider, Erik Killmonger in his Golden Jaguar suit, Homecoming Spiderman, and Hela.

*Diamond Select will occasionally release some of their figures as store exclusives and will include an extra head or it will be an unmasked head/alternate only. Examples include comic book Dr. Strange, Homecoming Spiderman, Winter Soldier Captain America, Amazing Spiderman, 3x versions of ASM2 Spiderman, and MCU Ant Man.

*DCUC also released variants for alternate heads or pieces like Deathstroke, Batman Beyond, Cyborg, Martian Manhunter, and Dick Grayson Robin.

*Mattel's DC Multiverse line had store exclusive version of BvS Superman with heat vision eyes and BvS Batman with a removable mask.

*Mattel also re-released the BvS Batman in their Suicide Squad wave with more accessories and an alternate head.

*Mattel also re-released the BvS Wonder Woman in their Wonder Woman movie wave with a new sword, shield, and more accurate head sculpt.

Common thread here is they're generally Hasbro/Mattel. The big boys. The Neca examples are for limited edition Con Exclusives so its understandable.

Most people complain either its taking shelf space for something they would rather have. Sometimes its just trying to make sure shelves are filled (can say the same with how streaming services are in need for content). Or in a very worse case scenario, environmentally gets dumped which is an overall waste from start to finish.

Been collecting for years, if the company feels they need to do the variants, so be it, I'm not buying it but maybe someone else may want. Though I'm sure we all had the urge, however rarely it might have happened, of getting a variant which looks better in our eyes than a standard that we really badly wanted.

Companies know, there's a market for everything. All sorts of collectors.
