Street Date: Officially 2019-06-05 (though it looks like GameStop may've started selling them in May 2019) MSRP: $25 each Price I Paid: $20 each Scale: 7-inch (or 1/10) Big Bad Toy Store still has these in stock! Omega: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Produ...nDetails/85606 Carbide: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Produ...nDetails/85607 ---------- There's been a general lack of villains in McFarlane's DC Multiverse action figure line, so I've been buying the company's Fortnite figures to use as "bad guys". I am reviewing Omega and Carbide together since the bodies are almost identical. (McFarlane did something similar with the two Lex Luthor figures released in 2021.) I bought these to fill in for Firefly and Killer Moth. I know, I know, everyone is used to seeing Killer Moth with a purple shirt, but I wanted matching high-tech villains for this pair. Inside the boxes, there is a base stand under a plastic shell glued to a cardboard tray. The figures and accessories are stored in plastic trays. The single-release Fortnite figures have three accessories each -- a "harvest" tool (which looks like an axe or melee weapon to people unfamiliar with the game), a gun, and a "back bling" / backpack. (I think the only exception is the Walgreens Exclusive Glow in the Dark Skull Trooper, which comes with just a "harvest" tool.) The backpacks have pegs that fit into holes in the figures' back. The backpacks kinda look like jetpacks, though if I'm being honest with myself, the "wings" probably would not provide much maneuverability, lol. Omega has a machine gun, and Carbide has a grenade launcher. The base stand is a raised platform, and the pegs are larger than the pegs on base stands for subsequent action figure lines. Carbide is pretty much exactly 7-inches tall, but Omega is a tad shorter. (Omega's head sits lower on the neck.) The height discrepancy is actually more noticeable when there's another figure posed alongside them. In the past, many McFarlane action figures were criticized for lacking articulation, with some people calling them poseable statues. The Fortnite system is clearly a response to market concerns, with even the packaging announcing that there are "22 MOVING PARTS". Unfortunately, these two figures have a lot of hard plastic parts, such as the shoulder pads, diapers, and elbow/leg calf blades, that restrict movement. In particular, the shoulder pads are very problematic. Likewise, there is so much plastic in the wrist area that it's difficult to pose the hands. The shoulder hinges could benefit from some oiling. The heads and lower torsos can rotate 360 degrees, though be careful as the neck piece separates from the body really easily. Omega's head has slightly less movement because the helmet piece has more plastic in the back. The left hands' grips are rather narrow and tight, so I didn't try to pose the figures with both their guns and axes. You sort of can if you have Omega hold the machine gun by the grip with his left hand and if you have Carbide holding the grenade launcher loosely by the "grip" handle. I wanted them to have matching weaponry anyway, so I found some spare grenade launchers on eBay. The right hands' grips are about perfect for guns, but they're a tad loose for the axes. These are very nice looking figures, but I think McFarlane prioritized design over function with these two. The diapers hide the hip joints better than the diapers for Raptor/Havoc, but the hard plastic really restricts movement. Still, they look pretty menacing, and I like having the Batfamily fight more than just a bunch of Jokers. Areas of concern: -- The trigger guard area on Omega's machine gun is too small, so the right hand's trigger finger will break the guard. This doesn't affect his ability to hold the gun. (Jazwares deals with this by not including trigger guards on guns for their 6-inch Fortnite figures.) -- My copy of Carbide has loose ankle joints.
