I'm starting this thread for fans of McFarlane's DC figures since most of the discussion ends up spread out on news and photo gallery threads. Please keep the discussion civil. After all, this is an appreciation thread and not a place to trash the figures, McFarlane, or anyone who is interested in this line.

If anyone wants to try swapping the plastic cape for a fabric cape, it looks like the neck piece is a separate piece from the plastic cape. I haven't tried taking it apart to confirm if this is possible.

https://news.toyark.com/2020/05/19/d...ne-toys-388527

Personally I wasnt really impressed with the McFarlane ones I bought (Nightwing & Batgirl) but I am planning to pick up Azrael

Appreciate the comparison shots! Man, those ape-arms on Batman and the oddly raised batsymbol really sour the whole deal for me...

Picked up Arkham Asylum Joker today while on a Walmart run. I dig it. Took a super hard pass on Batman, though. Man...McFarlane has already taken three swings at Bats and missed horribly each time, IMO.

Joker's face still looks too scrunched up but I do plan on picking him up, assuming I ever even see one.

I saw Joker and Batman today at Walmart and they look terrible. Joker's face looked like they forgot to scupt details into it while Batman just looked weird.

Looks like the variant Batman will be more than 1 per case. Toy Shiz posted this to Instagram courtesy of Palmetto Comics' Facebook page. Apparently they were found in Lexington, SC. One of the IG commenters said they had seen some in Connecticut as well this past week.

I found the chase Batman today at Walmart in Franklin, TN. Overall, the figure isn't bad but I think the standard is just a little better. One thing to watch out for is the alignment of the eyes. The paint applications don't quite line up with the sculpt but I did manage to pick up a figure where they looked pretty even.

Todd's got some things to learn about articulation still because that torso joint is jarring to look at. Not as bad on the black/gray color scheme because it blends into the look a lil bit... Looking at the improvement between the proportions of that crazy long armed figure and the next batch it seems like at least they're listening to people though.

Other thing that is concerning--how deep are they gonna go with this line? Is it gonna be so batcentric forever or are they gonna go as deep as DCUC (and hopefully deeper)?

Jwyss what is the one on the left? That looks like the Batman for me.

The figure on the left in the bottom pic is the DC Essentials Knightfall Batman with a custom cape. I don’t particularly like the fabric I used to make the cape since the fabric is a little too thick to lay right and it holds wrinkles/curls. But beggars can’t be choosers when you’re trying to match colors. I’ve customized the original Essentials Batman a few times to make some different costumes.

And in case it’s not obvious, Batman’s my favorite

Yeah I see what you're saying when the cape is just draped forward over the arms, but folded back it looks sharp. Heh, doesn't stuff like that kill the "immersion" for you? I mean, I can forgive seeing pins on the arms or whatever or but any kind of unsightly gap anywhere just takes me right out of it.

Snazzy redecos too btw.

That's gonna be the Bats for me though. Your (mostly) vanilla figure looks very Jim Aparo to me, that's kinda the look I gravitate to. I think by the time they got to Essentials I just completely ignored the line and missed this one.

The articulation always stands out a bit to me on most figures. Don’t get me wrong, I can critique it and make suggestions for improvements but I’m not going to completely write a figure off for it.

As for my custom capes, the point that I was making about the fabric had more to do with the edges not behaving properly on Knightfall Batman’s cape. They’re all curling, especially the tips on the bottom of the cape. The Knightfall Batman actually has on two different capes in my pics. The folded back version is my current one while the one draped over the arms was the first one I made but have since discarded.

If you like this version of Batman, you can still get him from BBTS. DC Direct also made an Essentials Catwoman you may be interested in.

Derp, I completely missed the part where it's Knightfall Batman. Explains why he looks so Aparo.

I'm in the midst of downsizing my DC stuff but I'm looking to start over completely with just a small collection of Bat-related figs, just not sure what versions I want. I definitely am getting him though, thanks for the info.

Unboxing vid of Batman/Joker/Azrael

Wasn't that impressed by the previous McFarlane figs but I think Azrael will fit in with my Rebirth Detective Comics team

Lengthy interview. Some key points.

- While 2021 will obviously have more Batman because of the movie (they all but confirmed there'll be figures from the film), there's gonna be a broader selection of B and C-list DC characters. They also said even the Batman-centric waves will include more allies and villains instead of a constant stream of Batman and Joker variants.

- Build-a-Figures will be the new norm going forward.

- They're constantly looking to refine articulation, and Infected Superman will have double jointed elbows. Flash has double elbows and knees.

- There's a good chance for Doctor Fate; Todd likes him a lot.

- Good chance for more Green Lanterns because of the HBO series.

Shit. I was really looking forward to the idea of getting someone like Bane or Killer Croc without having to buy a bunch of characters I don't give a crap about.

That black and grey version is a perfect match for Nick Derington's AMAZING art on the Batman Universe series!

COOL.
