Does anyone know if there are any rumblings of NECA scaling down some of their 1/4 to 7 inch this year like they did last year? They said they would like to do it around this time of year. Thoughts on this?

Nothing said yet. Then again nothing was really said last time it just sorta happened. They were unveiled by NECA/Warner Bros and available within a month. It's pretty much all out of NECA's hands so there's no guarantee we'll get anything this year but if we do I've got some ideas of what I'd like to see. The Batman Begins Batman would be great, Burt Ward Robin to go with West, Catwoman and Penguin to go with Keaton. I know last time they did three so I'm going one over on that but then last time was two more than the time before. Of course like I said we might not see anything of the sorts again, I'd like to think though that Warner Bros Home Video was aware of how well the last set was received and would want to do it again.

NECA has said numerous times that they like getting the chance to redo them in the smaller scale but if WB doesn't come to them then they just can't because of Mattel's master rights. For all we know though WB may have already gone to them to set up another round. Or maybe they haven't. It's an annoying game of uncertainty. At least they got to do the ones that they did but more is always nice.

I doubt we'll get 7" anyone before their 18"er hits retail.

Batman (DOJ)
Superman (MOS) Batman (Begins) Penguin (Returns, long johns) Robin (66) Well, these are the only released 1/4 scale figures that don't have a 7" figure at the moment. I think Batman (Bale), Robin and Penguin are likely candidates for this year. I was going to say that the DCEU Superman and Batman figures were likely but DC Collectibles' movie line (which they've already canceled most of) might stop that from happening. Also, 2017 will be the 25th anniversary of Batman Returns and NECA has mentioned that they MAY do a 1/4 scale Batman for the movie. I could see 7" versions of BR movie figures being released next year along with a special edition blu ray release. |

I prefer the 89 suit to the Returns suit but I do really like them both. I'm not sure how NECA's re-release of the 1/4 scale 89 Batman will factor into their decision to do a 1/4 scale Batman from Batman Returns though. Maybe testing the waters to see if there is still interest in Keaton Batman?

Yeah, I like them both a lot as well. They refined the cowl for Returns and it was perfect and don't think they ever got it better than that.

I did notice that Batman Returns was conspicuously excluded from the dvd promo for the 7 inch figures last winter. 2017 marks the 25th anniversary for that movie. Maybe they have a special planned with a 7 inch Penguin and/or Catwoman.

I don't think the movies were really tied to the toys much for the last promotion because the only movie option which featured any of the three figures we got was the the Dark Knight having Heath Ledger's Joker. We didn't get the choice of any Christopher Reeve Superman film or the Adam West Batman movie but instead we got to choose from Man of Steel, Batman Begins, Batman and Robin (ugggghhhhh), the Dark Knight, and some Lego Batman thing as our DVD options (not even Blu-Ray copies but the cheap $5 bargain bin DVD versions). At least the 7" Keaton Batman figure was tied to the Blu-Ray of the movie he was actually from. The figures are the reason I gave them my money but a better movie selection or better formats would have been nice.

It looks like we were on the right track with this thread, speculating about more DC 7" figures from NECA (e.g., Batman Begins). Going forward, I for one hope NECA can expand this niche substantially: less obtrusive articulation (get rid of that damned ab crunch), and superior sculpts and paint.
I realize that this is mainly a matter of demographics, but I haven't dropped a dime on anything post-New 52 (with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions). I might be speaking for a sizeable contingent of fans who grew up with the Golden, Silver and Bronze age of comics who hope for representative figures from each period: favorite characters, favorite costumes, favorite artistic stylization. I know DC Direct did this very thing to some extent, but I just think NECA could do much better. Rgds Last edited by Skoob; 01-13-2017 at 08:47 PM.. |

Aesthetically speaking most of their figures do very well to hide the torso articulation.

I'd like them to do Arkham Knight/City Poison Ivy, given that DC Collectibles cancelled theirs.

That's ultimate wishful thinking right there, though I too am sad that DCC canned it. Not sure why you put the City label there though since her Knight look isn't the same as that one.

Sadly yep. Only to indicate I would be happy with either version, though I'd prefer Knight.

Ab crunches in general are a pet peeve of mine, but some are downright awful. I'm referring to those where the designer hasn't made the slightest attempt to conceal or blend it with the contours of clothing or the rib cage. The worst of all are those where there's simply an upside-down square-cornered 'U' shape above the waist. There, I've got it out of my system; I'll shut up now.

Here, IMO, is a classic example of why ab crunches need to be wiped off the face of the earth.
