"Looks at Super7 April"
"Looks at Neca April" You guys are fighting over who's better, while im laughing at BOTH of these HORRIBLY UGLY Figures! with Zbrush being Available to help sculptors in 2020, Both Neca AND Super7 are SERIOUSLY gonna offer these figures up and say they're worth like, $30 "If you are lucky enough to find them before they get snatched up and Scalped on Ebay"? |

That Mondo Gecko is awful imho. However it makes me realize just what fuels peoples collecting and I am afraid this is where NECA or Super 7 may start losing customers and support for these lines that they need to continue. I know scalper and resale value alone will probably keep the lines alive but I don't like Gecko, I didn't like Leatherhead either. Upon my further research though they are cartoon accurate. I like Playmates accurate so I think I will lean toward Super 7. People who prefer cartoon accurate may lean toward NECA. I HAVE TO BE HONEST THOUGH BOTH OF THE APRIL VERSIONS LOOK PRETTY BAD.

Nice to see pictures of things that are impossible to buy for retail price. Screw you NECA. I was going to buy all of these, but after the clusterfuck that was Casey Jones' "release date" and April's stupid head, I am done with this line. It's pissed me off enough that I am boycotting NECA. I know it doesn't matter cause other people will buy their stuff, but fuck that company.

Ha my first time posting here though I’ve been a TMNT fan since 88 and silent watcher for a few years here. I love collecting toys, comics & specific vinyl records. Well, when I was 7 really for the Toitles as Rocksteady would say. Not trying to post here for nostalgic reasons mind you. But I am probably going to be ousted early since I don’t side with a side. As someone who was in an underground music scene, that just got old quick. I’ll not divulge my past as it doesn’t pertain towards the brands mentioned. But I do see the upside to either brand. Though I’m more inclined to the look of NECA, I also understand the movement toward Super7 also. I buy from both brands though I’m also not rich. Ha, privileged? No, I’m not. I’ve made some mistakes in my life but I make smarter choices now however. That being said, it’s just plastic figurines. I get it, I love this collecting game too. But, at the end of the day? It’s just stuff. When you’re dead what do you do with it? Nothing. I got a decent collection too and it’s fun either way, but I see both sides on this. As for April, well both iterations are junk. So I won’t commit my $ towards either. Perhaps my typical punk outlook is more of the outsider look, but so be it. I’m not here to ruin someone’s day nor am I to say someone’s thoughts are stupid or immoral. We’re all entitled to our thoughts. Ha, now I suspect the Al Franken comments are due, unless that SNL segment is too dated? Whatevs, I’m divorced and blowback is nothing I’ve not heard either. No I have no kids, my ex wanted to not work and I work 2 jobs for her to stay home. Not touching that subject here, as it has has no place. But giving some history to absolute strangers. I love TMNT, Batman (though I like Supes he doesn’t get the same love outside of the 90’s line for the animated series really-or the Mattel line), Marvel Legends pertaining to mostly XMEN (Hulk then Spidey secondary), some GI Joe (classic 80’s and modern Classified both) and SW, most of the horror genre toys & Jurassic Park/World stuff. Yeah I grew up w dinos so I collect that too. I’m off track here, I understand the preorder idiocy as I tried that last week too. But, I already had a preorder setup from the UK for a 2 pack because I personally don’t have the time to do that bs with that Wallyworld or Target has with their current nonsense. Is it dumb to pay the overhead? Absolutely. But? I do it because ebay will still be worse most likely. We are at their mercy be it the stores or the companies. Wow do I feel like a politician in my words trying to grab desperate votes and sorry as that’s not my intent, though it’s really not that far removed it feels.

NECA’s version on the other hand either suffers from licensor approval issues or tooling errors that caused the final product to be way off model from the original prototype and they were likely too far into production to change it. April’s head really doesn’t bother me much, but if had to pick I’d say Super 7’s attempt is superior only because they nailed precisely what they are going for like it or not. The only thing aesthetically I don’t like about NECA’s entire cartoon TMNT line is the two-tone paint job which I think especially in the case of Mondo Gecko or Leatherhead really throws off their look. In the cartoon the characters were drawn with two-tones in order to simulate shadow, lighting and depth. NECA’s paint job only makes sense with simple poses and is easily broken up with anything dynamic. In my opinion it comes across even worse on the toy because in the real world there is real light which casts shadows on objects so the two-tone look from a practical point of view will never make sense. That and the fact that Mondo Gecko’s secondary that really clashes with the figure. I also don’t like the bold black sketch lines as that gives their figures a more comic aesthetic, but I’d take that any day if NECA would just ditch the two-tone look. I don't really see what is odd about this. They already the main villains and the turtles. Now they are getting into the more obscure stuff. The only "top tier" characters that are really left to release are Baxter, Rat King, and Splinter. Everything else is going to be more obscure minor characters from one or two episodes.

I'm not a TMNT collector but feel for those who are.
NECA distribution in general has gone to shit lately. I've been checking the local Target for 4 weeks now, 2-3 times a week and have seen absolutely nothing new. No alpha predator, no exclusive Alien wave, nothing. Usually Target has been good at having the section stocked (except for TMNT) on time. Walmart has been spotty. Only 4 pegs and the figures they get seem random when it gets stocked at all. I don't want to buy online because I've seen too many figures in person over the past year or so with QC issues. Hell, I still can't find a decent ultimate big chap. Every one I've purchased so far has had to be returned because of atrocious quality issues. I really don't want to be negative about this stuff, this hobby is supposed to be fun. It doesn't help that because they get so many complaints (both good and bad), NECA doesn't seem to take criticism as seriously as they should. And I know there's plenty of idiots out there who complain about everything, but not everyone is a troll. I also know that it's not just a NECA problem. |

When I see more and more of the “cooler heads” complain about neca turtles that tells me the future. We should be talking about these figures, show pics of collections, posting want lists. But no, we talk about how you can’t find them.
At the end of the day, neca has given us more great toys based on pop culture and cult classics than any other company, and most likely will always hold that title. I hate to see them like this, but I don’t have the power to change this. They do. I hope they do it. I hope for a great announcement on how these are going to get in everyone’s hand whom want them. I am however....a realist. My opinion, the reason they are showing these figures, is to get the talking points changed. This is a toyguru play right here. Usually didn’t work with him, I doubt it works here. A lot of companies are going to show some epic stuff this week. Let’s see who gets the news stories and long threads this weekend. |

Flashbacks of playmates Muckman 2017 or 16...........Looks good in the pictures. Probably the only way I'll get to see them.
Personal message to TARGET and NECA: MAKE A LOT OF THEM. A LOT! I still don't know why so many new releases. How many figures could they possibly have in production at once? How many at one time could even produce enough to supply the clearly very high demand? I'm telling you, man, they are going to move forward and if a lot of us don't get it on eBay, we'll get left in the dust. Last edited by JerpJerp; 07-21-2020 at 07:10 PM.. |

Love it! I remember as a kid, I loved the Mondo Gecko episode - the design, the idea that he was like a 5th brother to the turtles... I decided I need the toy. Then I saw the toy and it was this ghastly monster with permanently bent legs and a creepy face and I was like NOPE...
This is also why I never had any TMNT toys. I was put off by how they never looked anything like on the toon...The creepy white eyes and weird grimaces. Shredder especially was terrible, looked nothing like on the show. Dunno why they made them so different. They weren't even following the comic designs, since those went in completely different directions too. |
