I'd don't know about that now. The last few 8" figures I've shot have been quite good. Goonies and Night of the Demons had really solid paint apps on the face. The last one that I did that wasn't really up to the protos was the Re-Animator

Those look good but two questions:
Do they get interchangeable heads? They are not listed but then What about cap and glasses? They don't look removable to me... Also, those look like single jointed elbows...i thought double elbows were going to be the thing after Goonies right? Also, aiming those weapons with single elbows will be impossible... |

Honestly, it was just a joke. Most of the paint apps on their 8" figures have been really good lately, although it's funny that you mention Re-Animator, as I have a real sore spot about how that figure turned out. I eventually managed to find one that was well-painted and that I was happy with, but I had to wade through a sea of really super-sloppy faces that didn't even come close to matching the proto to get there.

Looking at Quint's head, I think you're right. Bonus points if NECA sculpts a brain inside Quint's head for when you do the skull swap, lol.

The hat and bandana are just separate pieces that go on and off his head, according to the listing on bbts. Looks like they kind of wedge into the sculpted wisps of hair at his temples.

Looks like Brody has tiny notches in the side of his head in the hair for the glasses. Quint looks like the top of his head at the bandana pops off and swaps with the hat....

I still want a 7” figure, but the fact I waited so long for him, I wanted a good paint job...nay, great paint job.

Remember when amoktime was going to do that 7 inch figure? I think it would have more or less been a statue like movie maniacs but at least the scale would be there. But an ultimate...man...well one can hope.

At this point, I think NECA's horror Ultimates are going to be few and far between. Any completely new sculpt basically has to be for a can't miss franchise. And with the lower cost of doing the retro's, I think the shift to that format is here to stay for a bit.
I do think them shifting all 7" horror figures to only Ultimate format is a problem at this point. I absolutely think there's a market for horror characters in smaller packaging, with far less accessories, and a lower price, kind of how they used to release them.

I’m surprised neca was not done a more budget line like the toysrus cult classics line.
The fact is though.....what are we even missing at this point? Between all the companies that have done horror and sci-fi over the years most has been covered to some point. Yes there is always something but I’m hard pressed to look at my collection and say it’s not complete. |

Neca's articulation and sculpting is on another level. I look back at some of my older figures and the sculpts just don't hold up to modern standards. |

And, of course, they eventually released their own 4-inch retro Herbert West and Dr. Hill figures, which were...well, okay I guess. But I'll buy anything Re-Animator, so of course I bought 'em. Amok Time also released a replica statue of the finger creature from Bride of Re-Animator (which I don't own). But, of course, all of the figures released to date pale in comparison to my masterful Herbert West custom. However, I've since updated it with better arms and a more realistic-looking syringe. Again, I'd love to know how NECA's West sold, and if those sales would perhaps open up the possibility of an Ultimate figure down the line. Last edited by Dolemite; 02-25-2020 at 04:41 PM.. |

My ReAnimator sucks. May have to custom paint it myself. Really, the eyes and lips

Neca seems to be doing a better than expected job of making the clothes not too baggy. I think they are close to great outside of the first few Mego's. Maybe it was the Freddy's sweater that was a challenge? I am all in but hoping they will do some Killer Klowns and would like to see them translate some Mego 8 inch figures into an 1/4 scale. I assume if the Mego's sell well, there is a market for more expensive figures. |

I agree. Been collecting horror figures since McFarlane's Movie Maniacs series 1. I got all the original Neca releases (Reel Toys, Cult Classics, etc.), Sota's Now Playing, AmokTime... the list goes on an on. There has been a truly amazing lineup of horror and sci-fi figures over the years. There are still some glaring omissions, like Jack Torrence from The Shining, but hard to complain.
I will say, however, that I'd love updates to decades-old figures. Neca's articulation and sculpting is on another level. I look back at some of my older figures and the sculpts just don't hold up to modern standards. |

It’s looking like the Martin Brody figure has been cancelled due to licensing issues. Quint is supposed to be released in January now. I’m not sure what the point is though. I was hoping they could use positive sales of Brody and Quint to convince Dreyfuss to negotiate a license for Hooper. But, with no Brody, that seems even more unrealistic now.

Super 7 doesn't need actor's likeness rights for Reaction figures since they don't look like the actors. They just need the license rights for the movie.

You're right but, I'm talking about the 3.75 figure that Funko did (arent they reaction too?) where there's some semblance of a likeness on those figures. Also, weird thing to notice, we have the same post count lol |

The Funko ReAction ones didn't use likeness rights. You can always tell by the card back Funko used. If it was just a movie poster image, they didn't go for actor likeness. If it was a photo or new art of the actor, then they had access to the likenesses.
