Nice review, I wonder why they made him that large since they have tons of Kaiju. How does he look if he's hunched over more ape-like with Godzilla? Or is it just too large overall?

You can hunch him over, and bend the knees, but his proportions are still fairly large. My guess is they saw they could do a figure that large at the price point and went for it.

Yeah I think in the '33 movie he always had bent legs and was slightly hunched over.
This is so close to '33, I wonder how they got away with not having to get a license or didn't pursue a license for the 1933 film? It would have been cool to get some extras from the '33 film like broken chains for the wrists or a little Fay Wray. I'm excited to get this one as I love the 1933 film. Great photos of what looks like a great figure, I hope it's not terribly long before online stores get these so my pre-order can go through. I'm pretty sure though that the heads are just different expressions of the same face and not different era approaches of the character.

I believe that the basic character of King Kong is public domain, but I think the rights to the '33 film are with Warner Bros through a weird twist of buyouts and mergers involving several studios. The character being public domain though might account for why NECA was able to make this figure so very close to the '33 version in design but then didn't use that film's poster or details for the box.

They did a 2 feet long, 1 foot tall 2014 Godzilla that would probably look good with this Kong.

NECA’s 24-Inch head-to-tail Godzilla Interestingly enough was also technically scaled to their Pacific Rim line based on it’s height in the film compared to the height of the Kaiju and Jaegers of Pacific Rim. 7-Inch scale is NECA’s bread and butter hence why Kong is and if they completely had their way I doubt their Godzilla line would have been made in the 6-Inch scale. Great looking figure, but NECA totally fucked up the scale. They FINALLY had a chance to have a monster for their 10,000 Godzillas to fight and they make the boneheaded move to make him the completely wrong size. It's like they want all of their monsters to exist in a vacuum or something. "Nope, you don't get anyone to fight! Just sit there by yourself on a shelf and be quiet!"

NECA’s entire Godzilla library was in the 6-Inch scale. The main reason is because that was the scale they were allowed to make in the licensing agreement with Toho and it was also likely to entice more Kaiju collectors to buy their versions of Godzilla since it would be in the same scale as S.H. Monsterarts and other popular Kaiju toy line.

The 1933 film is owned by WB.

Doubly disappointed I never got the 24" NECA modern godzilla. Would probably look pretty good with this though some mismatched styling. Maybe they'll do a big classic Godzilla eventually?

Unfortunately Toho has pulled rank and declared that NECA can't make/sell any Godzilla figures for the foreseeable future because they want to focus on Godzilla vs Kong merchandise.
Personally I don't care if this Kong matches up with any of my Godzillas. Except for the upcoming movie they've only ever met the one time and this figure definitely doesn't represent that version of King Kong. To me they're totally separate characters who just happen to have had crossovers but I'm fine with them never meeting on my shelves, I'd much rather have Godzilla fighting his own monsters (which NECA sadly never made).

"This 7-inch scale figure.........stands over 8" tall."
I saw this figure at Target, and it's very impressive. So close, but if the scale was just closer to my Godzilla, it would've convinced me! |

Mezco Kong goes nicely with the Neca Godzilla. Kong is just a bit taller.
