As for "hooded" Cobra Commander, they likely went with the face plate look because he had that look for most of the show if not most of G.I.Joe's media existence outside of Marvel. In fact I'm having a hard time remembering if he even sported the hood look in the old cartoon past the first season, most episodes I can remember he's always wearing the helmet and face plate. So I think it makes sense for Super7 to make that one first since it's far more Sunbow iconic. |

Don't need another scale, don't need another shelve. Not for $55 a piece.

They're also about an inch too tall to go with Classified, so it's fine if they have their own Sunbow aesthetic.

He did use the hood a lot past S1. Primarily when he was hanging out at the base. As one point (years ago) I seem to remember John Warden mentioning the hood was an issue due to the stigmas associated with it (KKK?). That was one of the points of the hood and why Hama wrote it into plots. I guess it's the same reason we don't see Marvel using Nazi symbols with Hydra anymore. Terrible optics in spite of the historical facts.

Not originally. Hydra had nothing to do with nazis during the silver age run.

Super 7 just acknowledged that no hood is coming, nor should one be expected anytime in the future at this moment...so it's safe to say that mandate is coming from Hasbro and it's another relic of the past...

Again...today's climate dictates otherwise. I dare you to try and find a swastika or the SS lightning bolts in Battlefield 5 for example. They're not present, even when you are playing as the German Army. The Japanese Rising Sun was also recently removed from newer copies of Street Fighter 2, and is nowhere to be seen in a lot of modern video games, even where it would be appropriate to use them for historical accuracy.

More like they want to sell Marvel Legends in places in Europe like Germany, too. And trust me, they haven't forgotten anything over there.

Yeah there's a clear difference between denial of events and not wanting to market it to children. It could be perceived as making light of real events to turn it into a plaything. Now I do think there's a point where self-censorship can go overboard and ditching Cobra Commander's hood forever more would be an example since it only evokes and doesn't directly replicate a klan hood.

It's just funny seeing this because the leader of a terrorist organization would totally care about offending people.

The point ultimately is times change and sensibilities with it. I personally see nothing wrong with the hooded Cobra Commander and don't think anyone would worry over it if they made that figure, but if Hasbro feels otherwise and doesn't want to risk it in today's market then I can understand that. (They're the ones with share holders to answer to after all, not me.) Last edited by GizmoTron; 07-16-2021 at 02:58 PM.. |

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not at all suggesting that this disingenuous faux wokeness and pandering to pussies (sorry for using this engendered word and my deepest apologies to any sentient vulvas that may be reading) is as bad as fascism, but this crap smacks of 1984-style newspeak to me. Maybe in a few years we’ll be living out the song “California Uber Alles.”

Either way, Cobra is a terrorist organization whether they blatantly state it or not.

I'm rolling with the assumption that if the Ultimates do well, Hasbro will put out some RAH waves in the Classified line and people will save a lot of money. And if they don't do well, Super7 won't get around to putting out all the popular characters and then folks will be stuck with an incomplete team. So if I was still collecting Joe I'd be sitting these out
I quit Classified cold turkey over the Target nonsense and only got Baroness during the restock last week so I could finally display the figures I already had. Hasbro is going to have to behave for a solid calendar year before I try to get invested in the line again, and that clock tentatively started with the Baroness re-stock |

Ugh...I forgot Ebay has started collecting tax. Tacked on another $4.50 for the loose Arctic Storm Shadow that I probably overpaid for to begin with. Now if I can just come up with the Regal CC and deluxe SE for reasonable prices.

Yeah, ebay is just screwing everyone over these days. They charge taxes, they upped their fees, they stopped allowing you to use Paypal, they charge you to ship items, it's all bullshit now. At this piont I only sell off my digital copies that come with my Blu-Rays on there since I don't need to ship anything.

Of course, as to whether or not that means that it'll ever ship is another matter entirely- I hate preordering. As for the CC, just keep watching new listings- I saw one yesterday sell at $35 shipped. In other news, I just scored an extra Firefly and CI trooper on the ol' bay... they were only $17.50 ea + shipping. The dude had tracking up within minutes, and even refunded the overage without me asking (at the price I paid, I wasn't going to bother to ask). I didn't even need them, but at that price, I couldn't pass 'em up. I guess they'll make for some good trade fodder. Part of me wonders what in the hell the catch is, and the other part is laughing at the fact that people were paying what they were mere weeks ago. That deluxe SE is still up for preorder on most of the sites that initially offered it.

I was referring to the 00 version. Should have clarified. That thing is over $100 everywhere. I almost bought a lot last night that included the Regal CC and some extra troopers and infantry all at MSRP along with some others. Did not feel like dropping $230 for it though.

BBTS got my Snake-Eyes/Timber preorder in. Now I just need to wait for them to ship him.

Vipers are back up on Target.com if anyone's still interested.
