I have made it a life long side quest to find the answer to this mystery. Back in the early 90s I was in my tween-teen years. I have a memory of seeing a toy in K-Mart. In cliché fashion, I begged my mom to buy it for me only to be told 'next time'. I have never seen evidence of this toy since. Here is all I can recall:
-It was a set of characters comprising part of the bridge crew from Star Trek: The Next Generation. -For a time I thought they were of LEGO make. I have since learned no such license ever existed. -Of the companies that have had a license, none of their products that I've seen have come close. -I'm fairly certain it was only characters in the package, 4-6 of them. -Likely a black box with clear plastic window. -Roughly LEGO minifig proportions and/or scale. Ultimately, I want to acquire this as proof of sanity, but a confirmation image is goal number one. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated. |

Google the Star Trek Innerspace series by Playmates, that seems like a likely bet.

Sound like Minimates. They are taller than LEGO minifigs.
When I googled star trek minimates next generation 4 pack a Mega Blok set of Classic Trek figs showed up but they only had the license recently and Minimates were more popular in the 90s so I would go that route in your searching. |

The Innerspace has looked promising but I haven't ever seen evidence of a 'crew only' retail sku. Nor have I found such an item from Minimates.

Were they Starcom toys? I could be way off but the few I had were hand me downs without the packaging and it KINDA sounds like what you are describing. I had to look it up myself and they are WAY different thank what my kid self remembered them as.
Kinda like the first time I saw Adventure on Atari, being one of my first memories the dragon was real AF and rad looking. As an old guy approaching 40 I look back and it looks like a goofy duck lol |

Most likely the OP is thinking about the Playmates action figures.
https://www.collectorsweekly.com/sto...ion-enterprise I wonder if maybe the OP got OG Star Trek and TNG conflated, though? I can't find a multipack of the main TNG cast but found one of the OG cast.

It is very possible my young brain (and time) have distorted things. I have thought much about this. I'm always open to considering that factor. My mental image could be an amalgam of multiple toys. Note the black border around the Innerspace figure window. The last post about TOS Playmates crew shares elements of that. Had they been on the same shelf, wishful thinking could have factored in. However, the biggest sticking point for me is the packaging form factor. It was small (even to my younger self) and rectangular, kind of like Micro Machines when they had a single line of items but the card back was smaller.
