Man, I get why they chose that scale... But would it have been so hard to at least make them 6 inch scale?? Then you could have Wars/Trek crossovers!

5" scale... that was the same scale as their original late 80s/early 90s line right? The details on these (especially the headsculpts) look better than the original line, but the legs and hip joints look kind of awkward on some of them.

They look kinda okay/bad, but I guess thats Playmates being themselves. I like the Next Generation. So Super7 got pushed aside for this stuff?

Those TNG figures are taking me back! They're charming for what they are.

Super7 still has the license for the ReAction figures. They're supposed to announce Wave 2 this Spring.

I hope not. Super 7's line has its appeal as well and comes in the 3.75" scale many collectors still prefer. Awhile back they said they were planning a 2nd wave. I hope that's still the case. They need to at least complete the main crew. I don't want this to be a repeat of the Reaction TOS line where we never got Chekov. For Super 7's TNG line we still need Riker, Geordi, Beverly, Troi, O'Brien, and maybe Tasha Yar, all of which could be offered in a 2nd wave given that the first wave consisted of 6 figures.

About a half inch taller. But they should still fit with the Playmates bridge playset.

Shame they aren't 6 inch scale. They look kinda cheesy, like the Cobra Kai figures that came with the TMNT 2 packs recently.

The whole idea in making these figures in the first place is seemingly to pick up where Playmates left off with their Trek line from the 90s (hence some of the prototypes that they're showing off are TWOK Kirk and Spock and Picard, Riker and Data in their post-Season 3 TNG costumes, since Playmates never produced entirely satisfactory figures of those versions of the characters in the original line). Making them the same size as SW figures would be to miss the point entirely.

DST did a real nice 6" line years ago that consisted of TOS, the movies, TNG, and some DS9. It ended too soon sadly before we could get a few more key characters of the main casts.

I still have fond memories of Playmates' original Trek figures. I'll take a wait-and-see approach with this line, but I'm hoping it'll be a success after McFarlane's abortive attempt at doing Trek figures a couple of years ago and the wildly-varying quality of Diamond Select's line before that.
I do agree that it would have been nice if these were 6-inch scale, however. |

DST is just as bad when it came to some of their "one and done waves" for Pulp Fiction, Tron, X-Files, etc. DST could have done a lot more with X-Files if they had made figures based on the original show itself instead of starting the line off with an older Mulder and Scully from the resurrected series 10th season. Nobody wanted to buy this Mulder that looked like a homeless person... What a waste. Last edited by ShabbyBlue; 01-24-2022 at 02:06 PM.. |

It's close enough to mesh. It's like comparing the Return of the Jedi/Power of the Force figures from 1983-1985 with the less detailed 1977-1979 Star Wars ANH figures in the vintage Kenner line. They still all fit together consistently, even though sculpting detail improved with the ROTJ/POTF figures. As stated above, this new line is like a gradual progression of the original Playmates line if they continued a few more years into the late 90s/early 2000s.

really interesting compromise between retro and updated. i can see how someone who has no attachment to the old line might miss the point of these, but i think they're neat. really hoping the price is more retro.

Sorry if I'm missing the obvious, but the OG Playmates line was 5 inch as well?

Meh. If they somehow mesh with 90's Trek figures then good for those people, those few who collect them. I doubt these will last more than 2 years.
Only a 4" Vintage Collection style line would interest me. That's not going to happen. I'd hope Reaction does something more interest in their wave 2 than just human crew characters. But at $18 a piece, I wouldn't get them anyway. |

I get why but it would have been better in my opinion to go either 3.75" or 6". Being in between means no crossover. Again, I get all the reasons why but surely the reasons why not to should have out weighed them. IMHO

Wouldn't these scale with the first contact movie figures that were a bit taller than the mainline 90s trek ?

I was this close to starting to grab all the Star Trek Mego's that are coming out, but this announcement makes me want to hold out a bit longer, I desperately want a 6 inch figure line that'll fit with Marvel Legends and Power Rangers, hope we get some random ensign and lieutenants of various jobs so I can army build using my bucket of disembodied lightning collection heads. I mean, assuming the heads would be on a ball joint that's around the same size as the Hasbro figs are currently.

I used to have several of the old figures, they were awesome, went really well with the seaquest figs, but that's also why I'm craving a modern 6 inch line, for those crazy crossovers with other modern 6 inch scale figs. Definitely see a world where both can exist simultaneously.

Cherrypicked in the old days, might pick up more to fill out some core cast. Recently found my Lursa and BTor figures, still on card, though the bubbles have really yellowed.
