I'm still wondering what happened to the supporting civilian character/secret identities wave Mattel was planning on producing?

Well there's an updated Damian Wayne Robin figure coming out with the DC Direct Batman Incorporated line. There's also an updated Bruce Wayne Batman in his newest Costume. Still no Dick Grayson figure planned yet though and in my opinion that's one of the most needed DC figures they could release right now and I'm just baffled as to why they haven't. I MEAN THEY DIDN'T EVEN INCLUDE HIM IN THE BATMAN REBORN LINE!?!

Dispite the fact that people, from die hard fans to small children who need to complete their world of Superhero actionfigures, have been begging for Bruce Wayne and Alfred, and Clark Kent and Lois Lane figures without a changing costume gimmick for, well, decades, we have decided once again to fall into the trope of believing that such figures would not be wanted by anyone at all, ever, and thus have cancelled all plans. Not even limited release store exclusive two-packs. We have also passed your concern on to our friends at Hasbro, and you will not have to worry about ever having to purchase a Peter Parker, Mary-Jane, or CEO Attire Tony Stark ever again. After all... superheroes don't need to save anyone in order to be super, nor do they have lives beyond being super. Thank you for your continued patronage. ~Mattel. Glad you enjoyed it, jimster. ^_^
Though, as badly as I want such a set myself, I fear this is probably more or less what happened. EDIT: I never thought about Joker as a base for Alfred. That is *really* clever. Last edited by Crazy Jetty; 01-10-2011 at 02:32 PM.. |

Crazy Jetty, I try to think outside the box like that with the Joker and Alfred retool. Could you imagine a Catman, another character who's figure is long overdue, using a Batman retool? O.K., I've got to stop, my brain's hurting. Maybe some more genius ideas later.

But the rainbow lanterns are a no-brainer. I'm more surprised some nobody like Tyr, or the tarzan guy get released. |

Rainbow Lanterns = no brainer is a very accurate assessment. Tyr was included obviously for nostalgic reasons with the Super Powers line. I'm so happy Mattel got that Shark figure released. How high was the demand for that one? Kamandai was included because that's one of Scott the Toy Guru's favorites. I guess there's not enough of a demand for Mera, Huntress, Jay Garrick Flash, Catman, Aqualad, Elasti - Girl, Mirror Master, Captain Boomerang, Ther Wraith, Phantom Stranger, and I could go on but you get the idea

Wait a minute Crazy Jetty is actually the Toy Guru? That almost sounds like it could be the real deal. The only thing missing was the "We can't comment on any unproduced or unreleased figures at this time." schtick. THAT WAS HILLARIOUS. I do remember that my civilian/secret identities wave question got answered by Matty a few months back and basically the answer was it's something they've been looking into for a long time. O.K. so when is it happening? They have a scuplt for Clark Kent from DCSH and they have a head sculpt for Bruce Wayne. How difficult can it be to retool a Joker into an Alfred?
Personally, I think they should do an entire wave of "civilian IDs/Supporting characters" as a Mattycollector.com exclusive (probably the best way to do it short of sprinkling them into waves one at a time): Clark Kent Bruce Wayne Alfred Pennyworth Jim Gordon (Comic Version) Lois Lane Lex Luthor (Business Suit) Instead of a Build-A-Figure, give them the pieces to build either a big Bat-Signal or a Daily Planet Globe. Or if they want to get REALLY ambitious split it into two waves: Bruce Wayne Alfred Pennyworth Barbara Gordon/Oracle Jim Gordon (Comic) Selina Kyle Dick Grayson w/ Build-a-Batsignal Clark Kent Lois Lane Lex Luthor (Business Suit) Jimmy Olsen Perry White Mercy Graves w/ "Build a Globe" Probably a total pipe dream, but I think it'd be cool. |

"Looking into it" and even "wanting to do it" are no guarantees that Matty can produce a product. They still have the retailers to consider.

I was just at a local Walmart (Niles, IL) and saw that their DCUC Wave 17 figures are now on clearance for $9/figure.
Wave 18 and a few older Wave 15 figs were still full price. |

Shitbricks!...I'm still waiting for this freaking line to show up anywhere in my city... though we have enough damn Kamandi's and Zatanna's to supply a third world country...

Pffft, my nearest Walmart still has Waves 13-15 stocked up to the end of the pegs - on top of that they're all the "no-one-cares-about" peg-warmer types. And we get Batman Legacy Wave 1 instead of more DCUC waves - What the *bleep*!
And I already bought Wave 17 en masse from Entertainment Earth, so it'll be a while before I'm actually able to buy anymore DCUC at retail. Getting real sick of this.... |
