Hot Toys already has a realistic (not cartoony) CW Anakin up for preorder and have revealed a CW Obi-Wan to go with him that I'm waiting for them to solicit too, so I'm passing on these inferior versions with the animated style heads. If Sideshow wants to do something Clone Wars related instead of just copying what Hot Toys is already doing better, how about a season 1-2 or season 3-6 Ahsoka since fans have been waiting for a proper Clone Wars Ahsoka for over 10 years now.

I think these came out pretty great looking to mimic the cartoon. The slender bodies and soft goods look good. |

I have the original sideshow figures of them and I still to this day hate them. I know so many love the realistic versions, but I love these toon accurate pieces. The generation that grew up with the clone wars seems to be collecting again and they seem to want toon versions in figures as well. I’m not sure hasbro will ever go back to that but there is a market for them. I looked at the secondary prices of clone wars toys….dear god! I should just liquidate and live debt free.

This is absolutely what I wanted from Hot Toys instead of the live action translations they’re doing. Only problem is the outfits. I’d prefer the more unique looks they wore throughout the majority of the show instead of these essentially Ep III outfits. So hot toys has done the clothing right, Sideshow has the body proportions and animated head-sculpts I want…
I’m probably gonna get these and will sell them on if SSC brings out the look I’m truly after. They love doing variants. Plenty of Ahsoka teasers here as well so no doubt she’ll be amongst the next releases which will push my HT CW version out of the collection. Can’t wait to see the likes of Asajj Ventress and Savage Opress, Cad Bane, Pong Krell! Oh Lord, I’ll be buying these things forever, won’t I?! |

I kind of wish they'd go back to doing a few more clones to fill in the holes in our collections. After all these years we still need the unique Clone Marine that served under Commander Bacara in ROTS (the maroon/white armor with Snowtrooper style helmets) and the camoflauge armor Biker Scout style clones that were on Kashyyyk in ROTS. Those were the 2 big missing ones on my wishlist that Sideshow never bothered to do long ago when they were churning out any clone trooper or commander they could think of. These look fantastic.. I never understood the point of doing realistic versions of animated designs..I LOVED the clone wars show, and was a big fan of the designs as well. I would love 1/6 animated versions of Rex and Cody as well as Fox and as many of the commanders and captains they can pump out.

Season three Ahsoka Tano outfit... then we'll talk. Her best outfit gets zero love.

There's nothing in these pics teasing a 1/6 scale Ahsoka. The only reference to her is just a small hologram accessory, and that means nothing. Sideshow way back in 2012 (before Hot Toys took over) claimed in a Q&A that they were planning to do Ahsoka eventually, but after nearly 10 years we are still waiting. I'm hoping she's coming, but I have my doubts. And it's unlikely Sideshow will do any of the other figures you mentioned above. They are very minimally doing any 1/6 scale figures now since Hot Toys dominates that market. They already did an off-model Asajj Ventress figure years ago and blew their chance to do Cad Bane, instead cheaply sculpting his head to stick on a clone wars body for the episode where he was disguised in clone armor and never bothered revisiting that headsculpt to put it on a proper Cad Bane body. I can't see them putting forth the production expense of doing unique sculpts for Savage or Pong either unfortunately.
The POS Asajj they made years ago is absolutely not a reason to dismiss them producing an updated and vastly superior version in this new line. They’ve updated Joker, Batman and Harley when the original issues were nowhere near as bad as their Ventress. Pong Krell is totally wishful thinking but everyone loves a good Maul and CW gives a few brilliant iterations of the character and, if you’re doing Maul, why not do Savage? I’m just looking at it with more positive expectations. Hot Toys rules the roost and their Star Wars figures are of such a higher standard than SSC that it’s probably smart of them to not even try to compete with the live action characters anymore but, HT doesn’t seem interested in the animated style at all, so SSC can carve themselves out a nice piece of the Star Wars pie if enough collectors show interested in these two. |
