Your Questions Answered - Spooktacular - 10/29/09
Q-Are there anymore Universal Monster Dioramas in the works? I was hoping you’d do a Mummy to finish off the set. A-We do have plans for more Mummy love in the near future, although we are not yet certain if it will be within the diorama line or elsewhere. We’ll definitely get back to you a little further down the road. Q-Is there any chance to see a “BIG” Premium Format Figure in The Lord of the Rings line (The Ringwraith seated on his horse, a Rohan rider or a Warg rider, or…) like the Speeder Bike and Scout Trooper Premium Format Figure? A-Yes, there’s a very good chance that you’ll see something ‘uber’ in this line. We’ve had several concepts on the back burner with that sort of ambition, and we hope to realize at least one of them by 2011. Q-As a huge LOTR Legendary Scale Bust fan [I own them all!] I was wondering if you could confirm, or deny, the existence of two rumored “in progress” busts, namely the Mouth of Sauron [with mithril shirt] and Saruman [with palantir]. And on the topic of LOTR LSB’s, as much as I enjoy each and every bust you have produced to date it seems lately we have only been getting busts in the 1/3 scale range. This is understandable with the majority of recent busts being “human” characters, but when can we expect to see some of the “larger than life” characters such as Sauron, the Morgul Lord, the Cave Troll, and Balrog….busts that may be smaller in scale, but larger in size. And do you have some of these “larger than life” characters in mind that you can share with us? A-At this point, Sideshow has neither announced nor hinted at development of either LSB. HOWEVER, both MoS and Saruman are very likely to appear in some form in the not-too-distant future, which is not to say the near future. As you say, we tend to go BIG with busts that represent BIG characters, and we will likely continue that trend with future releases. Q-Is it possible that a 1:6 scale articulated series from Conan The Barbarian will ever hack and slash its way to Co-fans like myself? I’m dying to see you produce 12-inch Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones), Conan & friends, Thorgrim & Rexor, King Osric (Max Von Sydow) and even Valaria and the wizard! (Mako) All with full armor, weapons and extra goodies of course… A-We’re not currently planning any 1:6 scale products based on Conan, but we’ll definitely share your suggestion with our creative team! Q-I’m a big Predator fan. I have already pre-ordered the new AVP-R diorama but i wanted to ask you if there is any Predator Premium Format projects from the Predator or AVP movies coming up? A-Because of the size and complexity of the Alien and Predator designs, large size collectibles (as in 1:4 scale) have typically fallen into the Maquette category rather than Premium Format. Yes, we do have plans for more large size figures based on Alien, Predator, and AVP designs! Q-Will there be another Predator Maquette or Premium Format shown in 2010? A-It is more likely that any such product would be released in 2011, but it’s possible that one would be shown in 2010. Q-Many of the Dinosauria statues appear to have been worked on by famous paleoartists, such as Steve Riojas and David Krentz. However, when their name appears within a list of other artists, it becomes unclear what actual role they had to play in the design process. For example, are they sculpting these models, conceptualizing the design, or something else entirely? A-The design and development process at Sideshow is typically very organic, with many talented artists contributing to the outcome, so it is often difficult to assign credit for concepts to a single individual. Anthony Mestas, Tom Gilliland, Steve Riojas, and David Krentz have all played key roles in the design and conceptual stages. David Krentz has lent his talents for sculpture as well, and Steve Riojas with paint. Q-Since SS has several Lords of The Sith 12″ figures I was wondering if Darth Bane had ever been considered in the 12″ line? I realize he’s considered Expanded Universe, however he is responsible for forming the Order of the Sith Lords and would make an awesome addition! Just curious. A-Darth Bane is not part of our current line list, but we will certainly pass your suggestion along! Q-I love all your Star Wars designs, and own over a dozen. They’re wonderful! But I have to ask, are we ever going to get a 12-inch, decked out ARC Trooper? A-Yes, you will soon see some VERY decked out Clone Commanders and troopers. We don’t currently have plans specifically for the ARC Troopers, as seen in the original (non-CGI) Clone Wars cartoon, but some of the troopers appearing in the current Clone Wars cartoon have some serious similarities. Q-Do you plan on making Spider-man 1/4 Premium Format figure, Movie Version? A-With Spider-Man 4 looming on the horizon, we are evaluating the Spider-Man film franchise for product ideas. Nothing is definite at the moment, but we will share your enthusiasm with the creative team. Q-I couldn’t help but wonder why there aren’t more X-Men Premium Formats, Legendary Scale Busts, and Comiquettes? I know you have a few and Bowen has a lot of statues/busts, but I mean something like a Storm or Gambit comiquette. Are there plans on doing more X-Men in the near future? Thanks. Oh and 1 more thing: A Sabretooth PF would be AWESOME! A-You’re definitely getting your wish with the Sabretooth PF - he’s coming VERY soon, and you may have caught a glimpse of the sculpture in our SDCC videos. We have a number of X-Men characters in development, and you’ll notice a better representation of X-Men characters in all of our product lines soon enough. Q-Are there any plans on making comiquette’s or 1/6th figures of the following characters: Deadpool, Nova (annihilation suit), Vulcan, New Archangel from X-force, Black Costume Wolverine from X-force, Bishop from the New Cable comics? A-Of the characters you mention, two are definitely on tap for Comiquettes, two others are high on our list of candidates, and two have yet to appear in our planning. Q-Does Sideshow have any plans for a Planet Hulk Premium Format figure? A-Hulk have big plans for puny Sideshow. Planet Hulk must be made, but no rush Hulk. |
