this has been bugging me since I discovered this earlier this week. I thought I'd vent a lil. This is very much Marvel Universe related.
to give you an idea of where I am coming from, I live in Kettering Ohio. Suburb of Dayton and birthplace of Flight. In a 16 mile radius from my home(Give or take), there are 3 Meijers, 4 Walmarts, 3 Targets, 2 Toys R Us's, 2 Toys R Us Express's, and a 1 K-Mart. A nice abundence of shopping options if I do say so myself. Well as time has gone by I've noticed a subtle phasing out of MU. not on the majority thank god. Would make me sad. Out of those locations, 1 Walmart, all toys r us's, and the k-mart no longer carry MU. The Wal-mart is 1 mile from my office so I go there frequently to hunt. I went there looking for thor this week(Why it took them 1 week after street date, I'll never know). I found the lady putting out Thor and Pirates of the Carribean, and noticed a rearangement of sorts. Ironman was cut in half(Big suprise :P) with a nice helping of Thor next to it. Pirates was on the other side. But missing was Marvel Universe. Now, we had the newest wave(WWH). Infact I had seen Doc Samson and Capt Marvel and I picked up the Spiderwoman(Got the rest somewhere else). but now its gone. Low and behold, there it was in clearance. :/ I guess it kind of upset me, but I shouldnt be upset because to be honest, that Walmart is terrible. It actually closes due to a bad neighborhood(Bus line goes into real bad parts of town) and a stabbing and they frequently have giant dead spots of lack of product. Guy who runs it is a jerk also. now the toys r us's upset me. From work I can get to Toys R Us and back on my lunch break. I go there to see thor stuff, and I find a large open spot for MU. I'm excited, cause they havent really featured MU for a while. I come back the next week, its still empty. now, considering this TRU has prolly had tons of MU in the back for the longest time, I'm wondering why its still empty. I've yet to ask anybody there since i'm not really lookin for MU at the moment, but like to enjoy seeing the old stuff so long as its being circulated. so it kind of erks me that it seems like this TRU isnt even trying. the other TRU and the TRU Expresses are the same way, though I dont go to them often. Rarely any MU :/ Thankfully all the other stores in my area have them in abundance, with people who know to remove the sea of ironmans that MU is cluttered with. But still, I have invested alot into this toy line and I'd love to see other retail stores act like their others and actually support the product. if not for me, then for the others who enjoy it. For my collector brothers and sisters, or the little kid I saw asking his mom for the Magneto/Spidey secret wars pack. |

Something to consider, by June there's going to be 5 Marvel lines in general release. And it's going to be that way through Christmas, probably till the Avengers toyline hits next year. So really if the one not based on a movie and not Spider man gets pushed aside... Well it's not surprising really.

Spiderman and iron man.. spiderman and iron man... spiderman and iron man.. EVERYWHERE!!
LOL I really do get sick of this as well, but you know they are just doing that because it sells.. The targets in my area have 3 or 4 pegs a piece for MU. The toys R Us closest to my house has 2 pegs and the one a bit further away has several pegs (and even galactus!) Was a bit upset that the walmart next to my work (work nights, so GREAT for rare finds as I could be in there on my 1 am lunch for fresh loading times) QUIT carrying them, as did the 2 k marts on my way home. I dont doubt the line is doing well, but there really is a lack of faith that I find disturbing. Oh and my kroger randomly stocks 2-3 figures at a time until they sell.. found me a colossus there as well as spidey 2099/luke cage. |

I remember it took them forever to finally get in the TRU-exclusive Animated Rodimus and Ironhide. All the stores in Cincinnati got boatloads in, but our two? Nope. Quote:

The toys r us near my house used to stock MU on a regular basis, In the past 6 months tho I would say I have seen 2 new MU figures, if that, on the shelves.. and they have about 8 pegs for MU figs and they are all filled with IRON MAN versions..
Have two Targets within 5 miles of my home and they seem to be the best on stocking MU.. I understand MARVEL has a lot of space right now at TRU with thor/spiderman/iron man ETC.. but why have 8 pegs full of IRON MAN MU... you can do that with 1 peg (lol).. Meijer/Kmart near my house have NOTHING at all to do with MU... although , strangely they both carry DC Crisis/Universe line..and about a million childish batman bold and brave toys.. I heard the DISNEY store's carry MU.. one is located about 10 miles from my house.. might check it out soon. Summary.. Toys R Us seem to be lazy/not really care about what goes on in store when it comes to toys/new toys/variety .. Target is a GREAT option.. K Mart/Meijer have been tho thumbs down since MU came out.. |

It's hit or miss. I remember finding Juggernaut and Kitty Pryde at a random Target a month before any TRU had them.
I live in the heart of Atlanta. 7 Targets, 1 WalMart (odd) 3 TRU's. Have found all figures minus Thanos, Mystique and the Havok and Archangel variants, which I all later bought online. I dont think it is accurate to say that these stores as a collective are phasing out MU, its just that geeks like us know there where and when! WE are the ones who are making the figures disappear! |

Toys R Us is the worst of the bunch. Now with Target and Walmart, every time I consider stopping the random check-ins, I always end up finding something I've been looking for. Case in point; on my way to the grocery store, I popped into a Target I haven't been to in a few months. There whole MU selection was gone EXCEPT one Black Widow. Even the Iron Man and Spidey figures were all gone except the Black Widow and I snatched it up. I guess the lesson is to never give up on the drop-ins, even though pickings look slim overall.

I live in P.E.i. CANADA, smallest province, tiny island. You can drive end to end in less then an day, which is great if you have a car, I have no car so there's not much of a radius for me haha.. More or less get a taxi to 1 location and try to walk to what's around, there's a zellers, wallmart, and owl's hollow *local vender within 1 mile radius so I tend to look at them mostly, Zellers and Walmart have 1-2 pegs of MU figures and majority are the same week in and week out. Tons of pegs full of old spiderman and IM2 figures. I wish almost as much as more MU figures as to see some new spiderman. Other then that if I go downtown, there's 2 local venders lightning bolt comics and comic hunter, which have random orders mainly stocking comics but some good toys here and there more DC then anything.. if I walk about a half mile down there's 2 more spots Value village, which does stock some toys from time to time.. they actually had the fing fang foom line at 1 point and I DIDN'T BUY it, came back week later, all gone , they also have grab bags of loose figures which can be promising have found some ML figures for cheap. Then Jumbo Video & Blockbuster stock the odd stuff, Jumbo actually has expensive sideshow statues near me which is awesome to look at but way too pricey. I feel your pain man...

So check this out..
Today I got home from work and decided to take my Son on an 'action figure hunt' around where we live.. we do this about once a month looking for Marvel Universe figures that I do not have,(and he is into star wars/pokemon stuff)... Anyways we hit the following stores around Michigan where we live.. waterford MEIJER waterford TOYS R US waterford K MART white lake MEIJER white lake WALMART white lake K MART west bloomfield TARGET aurburn hills MIEJER aurburn hills TARGET pontiac COMIC CITY (local comic store)... after visiting all of these stores, we can across a grand total of 25 Marvel Universe figures.. with the majority of them being at the COMIC CITY store.. both k Marts had 0 MU figures and no spot on shelves for them, walmart had 5 shelve pegs for MU but only had one figure on shelf (a busted up iron man lol) toys r us had a few figures, but they were all IRON MAN or IRON SPIDERMAN.. Meijer has also gotten rid of the MU shelves that they used to have and replaced them with THOR toys.. needless to say after about 2 and a half hours of wasting time/gas, I came home with 0 new MU figures Target used to be my go to store, but it seems like once they are out of MU figures, they stop trying and replace them with something else.. TRU NEVER stocks MU figures altho they have a HUGE spot for them (like 10 pegs , all with about 1 figure on them).. |

@badrumble
If you're in Vallejo where are you looking? I live in the south bay, and there's a dozen Targets and half a dozen walmarts all within 20 minutes. The east bay can't be that barren is it? |

I hear ya Badrumble, I could save up and buy a wave at a time on BBTS or ebay, but it's not as fun as going through the isle searching pegs, to say wow can't believe I found this or when did this stuff come in, to me that's have the fun of buying toys is the actual buying aspect, from driving/walking to the place, seaching high and low, as we all know sometimes hidden jems are sitting up top, that haven't been placed on the pegs yet, or haven't made the shelf, found that with the Walmart exclusive IM toys, box up top full and none on the shelf, 3 minutes later, walks out with basket full of toys haha. I feel you guys though for me I don't have a vehicle so location is key I hit the same places up, majority have 1-4 pegs set aside but usually only have 1 on them. Walmart has been good to me last couple trips, scored most of wave 13 last time I was there and mystique,iron man 3 pack couple weeks before that. Zellers has gotten the new 6'' Iron man figs in, and continue to see the same peg warming MU figs.

Word, that sucks, I have like a whole driving ritual in and around san jose thats a big gas wasting circle around the whole south bay, and i've been coming up with nothing the last few times. Oh well, the hunt is just as fun (sometimes).

New York City has the same problem. Lots of empty MU pegs in my local target and TRU.
