Some people did, sure. Many more got the trilogy - or one of the trilogy plus tiers - because they wanted it. This didn't hit 3 million dollars because of the arm gauntlet... But, believe what you want. If thinking the numbers are inflated helps you in some fashion, have at it. Cheers!

I'll also be reselling the Artist Proof figure if I can. I have no interest in an unpainted figure. I wonder if Ebay will have a glut of them listed on it by December. If so, its aftermarket value may not be that great compared to the other 2 figures unfortunately.

I bet a couple thousand Artist Proof versions will hit ebay all within a few hours of each other.

Those are some fugly ballhinged wrist and ankles, the pre posed torso is not fun to look at either, but everything else seems to be nice and cool.

Those wrists! Dear god...
Chains seem a little thick, maybe if they were just longer/looser. |

The pre-posed torso is still laughable.
Edit: Shows just how cheap and arrogant Todd is. For years he confused people buying his stuff because he was the sole holder of licenses they loved with them actually liking his wonky stuff. He got 35 times the original pledge goal and still can't be bothered to have the torso redesigned. Last edited by Leo Primus; 06-25-2020 at 12:32 PM.. |

Good for the proof. Sculpting is nice but no real signs of the added bicep swivel. The chain links would always be a bit chunky, was like that in other figures when attempting to use real metal chain. Could either try (though would be a challenge) to get an even smaller link chain for the neck or try to get the skull pieces in metal. Otherwise feel a very good paint job especially for the cape would "fix" it. The curved torso is still a problem. Just still hoping McFarlaneToys heed and learn from all criticisms and improve for the future.

I can see a lot of backers being pissed about the solid torso, as the Kickstarter campaign specifically advertised torso articulation. I mean, you can have the most articulated arms and legs ever made but if the torso doesn't budge it severely limits the poses you can do.
Kind of a bait-and-switch thing here. Todd fucks up again. Last edited by Dolemite; 07-23-2020 at 06:36 AM.. |

Update posted April 23rd 2020 "We were practising trying to see whether we could do what is a soft chest so that we could get a bend in it. We're trying to figure out whether that's going to work if it doesn't this is just going to be all solid. So we haven't decided that yet." Some people requested that he keep it and many we're worried that the soft plastic would degrade and asked to leave it solid. Similarily people had issues with the pre-posed posture and Todd just stood firm and said it's staying that way. People had a choice to leave then and there and i'm sure had it been neutral he would have had more backers but in the end he did it the way he wanted to and as far as i see it those who stuck around should have been well aware this would be the way it would stay. In the end the amount of these figures ever made will be fixed. Assuming of course he doesn't make variants which he may well do. Either way there are plenty of people who missed out and i'm sure those who are dissapointed with their pledge can more than make their money back once the figures arrive. As an FYI, i wanted a neutral pose and a soft torso. I'm not worried by the plastic at all. But i also stuck with the campaign knowing that fixed pose was a done deal and that a soft plastic ab crunch was a maybe. |

The Torso has me worried, need some movement. I still love this, but this should have been the everything to everyone spawn.....which I know is no small task.

As usual, Todd has be pulled kicking and screaming into the modern day. They managed to do it for his retail stuff for the most part, but unfortunately with Kickstarter he already has your money and can pretty much do whatever the fuck he wants. Including producing a figure that will pose like shit because it will have zero torso articulation.
I will concede that Todd did express that a solid torso was a possibility, but most people just saw the render showing torso articulation and just backed the project assuming this figure wouldn't pose like a 1980's Star Wars figure. Glad I didn't back this, as I'm not a big Spawn fan. I'll just go with the MK11 figure. |

Who knows, having his own toy company, maybe one day he'll make a MAFEX-like or Amazing Yamaguchi-like Spawn, with more articulation than the human body.
The latter's style would really work with Spawn, given the jointed cape, and insanely unrealistic poses.

Really Todd??? You're pulling this lame sh** now? Seriously man, HIRE a REAL DESIGNER. You're too old and too old school. There are some seriously talented amateurs out there that could fix this problem for you and not make it look terrible like your DC line.

It was to be expected. I am like most disappointed but not surprised. But like I've said in some previous posts regarding this figure and McFarlane Toys, if he just took some changes and given the collector what we need in terms of articulation, the company would be far more successful. Think this would be forgiven if he did a Kickstarter with a Ninja/Merc Spawn with a cloth cape and plenty of guns and hands. Bet he would be surprised how many units he would sell of that even with a MEZCO-ish price point.

To Todd McFarlane:
The pre posed non articulating waist is unacceptable to most action figure collectors anyway, but ESPECIALLY after 3.4 million in sales we feel there should be no reason for it! But JUST AS BAD is the ONE thigh swivel. If anything, just don't have any thigh swivels. At all, if you "can't break up the sculpt" I'm positive any modern action figure enthusiasts would agree completely. Unicron was WAY more expensive. Quote:

I think the most useful points of articulation to add would be bicep swivels for the arms, and an ab crunch or ball joint for the upper torso.
Without the bicep joint, poses for the arms will be pretty limited. An upper torso joint would be great even though the torso has that weird pre-posed sculpt. Dunno why they sculpted it this way. Reminds me of the first Wolverine Marvel Legends figure that has lots of articulation but always looks weird because of the pre-posed nature of the torso. A swivel at the calf and forearm wouldn't be needed. The hands will already be able to rotate and pivot at the wrist. Same goes for the ankles/feet; they'll be able to turn side-to-side as well as pivot up and down. The thighs already seem to be able to be able to rotate since they both plug into the hip joints, so an additional swivel would be redundant. Quote:
