Anytime a building block brand announces the aquisition of a new license, there's more potential than will ever be met.
Personally, I feel Kreo has yet to come even close to the potential the brand can achieve. If they played their cards right, they could actually even become a real contender to Lego, more so than Megablok, with it's poor reputation. (They actually need to do generic sets, for one thing. TF is all they have, and a license can't carry a building block brand alone.) But that's neither here, nor there. Star Trek Kreos are one of the things I'm looking forward to the absolute most next year. Anyone else eager for these? If so, what are you hoping for? I hope the emphasis on movie is light. Not that I dislike the movie, I just hope that it's a foothold to establish the brand, and then hit up the other trek series. But what I really hope, and it already does not look to shape up this way, is that there are two catagories. Model kit ships that are not playsets or mini figure compatable (Simular to some of the collector sets Star Wars has made... though not on that scale or mega price), and playset pieces. For the model kits, anyship they want to give us I want. For the playsets, First and formost, I need to see Bridges. Every major Bridge, we need to have. Bridges for Enterprises original, new, NX, A, D, and E. Voyager's Bridge, DS9's Ops. After that, key sets, such as transporter rooms, D's Engineering (Perhaps a three set piece that can be combined into one mega set), Picard's Ready Room, Quark's Bar, Sickbay, Ten Forward, alien ship bridges. Perhaps instead of releasing one mega set for an entire bridge, they can release smaller sets that have a few consols and two characters. Using TNG here for example, but this works for every bridge and crew: Helm, Ops, and the Viewscreen with a baseplate, and comes with Data, Ro Laren, and a generic ensign. A large set with the three chairs and the curving guardrail, on a baseplate that connects to helm and ops, and comes with Picard, Riker, and Troi. Then three small sets that combines make up all the consols on the back wall, along with pieces to make all the walls on the bridge, and each one coming with another maincast, and a generic crewman. (Geordi, Worf, Beverly) Combine them all and you have the entire bridge in a way that does not cost $100 in one shot. $15 for the back consols, $25 for Helm and Ops, and $35-40 for the main bridge piece (Captain's chairs and guardrail). Would love to see small sets that focus on minifigures to help fill out core characters, and blind packs of "generic" aliens, such as Ferengi, Cardassians, Borg, and Klingons (This way if you're trying to armybuild, you're not stuck with 5 Kirks and 6 Geordis, as you're trying to find just one borg or klingon. Or at least follow Character Builder's example by releasing troopbuilder fivepacks. (I'd buy at least three borg sets) Would be especially cool to see them start to cater to the adult collector market, by making some sets that have little appeal to kids (Like Picard's ready room, and the conference room), and selling them through a Kreo Collector site, or something, and allowing them to focus on more action oriented sets for retail. But... it's all very doubtful. Most likely Hasbro rill release a handful of sets and abandon it, even though this could be their Lego Star Wars. I mean seriously... serious Star Trek fans have been starving for a strong line to collect since Playmate's trek petered out in the late ninties. And as I mentioned in another thread, representations of ships, beyond a select handful almost never happen. Even more rare are important playsets like Bridges. Playmates did a few, but that was it. The Bridge is as important as the ships and characters themselves.

Actually, Kre-O currently has TF and Battleship, with G.I.Joe and the aforementioned Star Trek debuting soon. So in most respects, I think Hasbro is at least attempting to do some of the same things you've suggested as far as diversification. And maybe between Joes, Battleship and ST, they'll have enough molds to do generic sets in the future.
Honestly, as far as the upcoming Trek series goes, I'd be happy with any sets that Hasbro puts out. As long as they do well, Hasbro should be able to expand on the line and introduce more series down the road (similar to the TF sub-line). I hope that their Trek sub-line is a success, and that Kre-O will truly be a challenge to Lego (and shake that stigma of being a "Lego knock-off").

I thought Battleship was dropped after a few sets, since the movie isn't relevent anymore, and unlike TF, isn't really a self sustaining franchise.
Haven't seen a battleship set since just a few months after the movie came out. Which would mean, ATM, Transformers is the onlything sustaining the brand (Until ST and Joe)

While there may not be any new sets coming out, the current Battleship sets are still being marketed, stocked, and sold (at least in my area), so I would still count them as part of the Kre-O line-up. Of course, there's always the possibility that Hasbro might release other BS sets in the future that are based more on the classic board game than that craptactular film. That could even be the start of a whole board-game-themed sub-line, especially if Hasbro continues to insist on turning them into live-action movies (Candy Land is next, btw).
And to add to my want list from above, I'd really like to see them do individual character sets similar to what MegaBloks did with Power Rangers Samurai and their Zord "control panel" sections. Have each main ST crew member come with a section of the Transporter room. Basically, each one would come with a Transporter pad and portion of the room that could interlock with the others to create the entire playset - with the exception of Scotty, Geordi, Barclay, etc., since they would probably come with the control panel area instead. This way, you could collect the entire main bridge crew/away team and have a Transporter room playset/display by the end of it, or have the option of only getting a few of your favorite minifigs for a relatively cheap price. It might be easier to do it that way than have a larger, more expensive set with the whole thing in one box, especially since it seems there is a limit to how many Kreons can come in a building set. This could also be done for some of the bridge playsets as well. EDIT: I'd also like to see mini-sets like Lego has done with Star Wars and their Planet series. Have mini-versions of famous ST ships (with or without the Planet container). These are the perfect size for those of us with limited shelf space, but a love for the various ship designs in Trek.

Maybe instead of planets, they make the containers the symbols of the race/fleet/empire?
On a side note, I did find three BS sets today, at TRU (Which seems to be the only local place that will carry Kreos at all) The transporter room idea sounds a lot like my build-a-bridge idea, so I like it!

And just now I thought of another Build-A-Set idea: The Next Gen Holodeck!

I'm not a building block guy, but If they released the DS9 station and various ships from ST I'd be all over them.

Just make the holodeck arch, and throw in a couple figures (Maybe Data as and Geordi as Holmes and Watson, or Picard as Dixon). That way, you can throw the arch into any pre-built lego, kreo, or any other block set in existance, and boom. Holodeck.

Grain of salt, as I have no way to officially source this. This comes from a friend (Nigel of the TMUK Board) who works for TRU in the UK. On top of that, they generally get less than half the stuff we do.
But it gives us a basic idea of what we can expect from this line. Quote:

Well I was in Wal-Mart last night and saw a shelf diagram with Star Trek Kreo on it. The listings were Enterprise (the big set), Shuttle craft, enemy ship, something I couldn't make out, and blind bags. Also had a street date of April 29th. Micro build ships could be what I couldn't make out.
