Ok, so the movie has peaked. It has had an amazing run so far. Sadly, I'm ONLY talking about the movie.
With Wave 1 two months old, and still collecting dust en masse at retailers everywhere, this once again raises the question of just how far retailers will go with this line. Some sources show only 3 waves, but my God, you would have thought wave 2 would be long rolled out by now, never mind 3. Now I know IM2 was rolling out figures long after the film was gone, but did they take a hint from that? That one year later there are still loads of IM2? We all know that the last couple of waves never went mass retail on that line. I'm very tempted to throw in the towel and go the Hasbro/BBTS/Disney route when they are available as singles, but that hope that in 2 months time, there will be 9 Volstaggs at the local Target prevents me from doing so. Same pertains to Cap, even though this line at least initially has been selling better. Thoughts?

thor only sold well for about 2 days on shelves. now its completely full
Captain America on the other hand is either limited to completely sold out at stores I've been too(Minus the delux figures) from what I can see, the Comic inspired figures of Captain America seem to be helping its sales big time, while Thors movie inspired figures dont entice the collector much. Now if thor was offering us modern loki, comic inspired warriors 3, modern and classic sif, Classic Odin with his big helmet, it would sell. Comic Heimdell would be a mail away cause to be honest the uneducated would go "Wait, Heimdell is black". And then they could add characters from outside of the film. Balder, Ulik, beta ray bill. ect. Edit : Another Gripe I have with the thor line is the lack of Jane Foster. I mean, they have buckets of Natalie Portman Amidala heads, Just give her a Body! People may criticize me on this, but I judge the stores on how 'up to date' they are on on when BBTS realease their product.
I got Wave 2 from them about a week and a half ago so I'd say kinda too soon to be making that call. But you are right in saying that with the movie having been out this long there should be more product... |

I think there's something about the Thor movie toys that just... isn't fun. I've said this before, but I feel like I'm just buying figures of normal dudes who like to hang at Ren Festivals. The figures are just men with beards and long hair. I'm not saying this is bad, it's accurate to the movie, but they're just boring to me. I didn't understand the IM2 toy hype, but I can at least see why someone might want all of the different IM suits. Do we really need the same long-haired blonde man figure where the only difference is he's wearing a yellow shirt instead of his classic black suit? (Thor) I don't. The Cap stuff has more of a "fun" look in my opinion. They've mixed in a comic line, which is "fun." The villains just look more "fun" too. I don't need Cap wearing a ton of different suits either, but at least they have a few eras to mix it up with.
In other words, I can definitely see W2, and beyond, of Thor toys not making it very far. I just see pegs and pegs of Odin and Thor that I can't see many stores justifying more.

I think the mistake Hasbro always makes on Marvel movie lines is releasing too much of the same character in the 1st waves. Save the repaints and s$%& for later. Would Thor be more admirable had the warrior's 3 and Heimdall been in the first basic and deluxe wave? I think so.
For Iron Man, how long did we wait until Whiplash and the drones showed up? Comic Whiplash? Fogetabowit. Armored Whiplash? All we've seen is that proto that one dude here won.

I think the Thor figures are great. I only have Movie Thor at the moment, but want to get all of them (apart from the other versions of Thor that we didnt see in the movie)
But considering you guys are saying they are easily available on shelves in the US. why are they so damned expensive to buy from ebay. ive been trying to get an Odin in his gold suit rather than the silver one, and All Odins are vastly over priced, I cant find a loose one anywhere. I dont care if it has the accessory. He seems to be harder to find for some reason. any word on Heimdall becoming more available? |

Sadly, the line IS dead in the water. Why? You are so limited with only having figures based on the movie. I hate seeing 3-4 different versions of Thor, all different types of "battle armour" that you never see in the movie, or comics. The line will start to swim if a comic wave or 2 is released.

Honestly, the main line wasn't that bad, there were only two Thor "variants" one which had a neat light up fixture aimed at kids, and the other based on actual pre-production art.
The lack of a store release for Wave 2 is what's terrible for a line that is 3 months old. I can only speak for my area and say that in most places this line has moved fairly well, but they just keep restocking Wave 1. (I can tell its restocking because the Loki's, FG's, and Odin's tend to move and then in a week or get replenished.)

The same figures have clogged shelves in my town since before May. I took about 7 months after the movie before that happened with Iron Man 2 toys, and Captain America cannot stay on shelves.
To me, the line is dead. |

Marvel Universe Modern Thor is better to me then any of the Thor movie figures. While the movie Captain America figures are better then the Marvel Universe Cap. I guess a lot of people feel the same way. Will still get a select few Thor figures, if I ever see the ones I like.

for me this thor figures line are not good at all, they dont give mixed product such as iron man and capt, they should give comic series for this thor series just to pop up the selling. thats really bad we dont have comic series from thor cause in his comic many characters that quite good that can bring into the figures. they can create comic line like classic thor, thunder strike, beta ray, new thor again, ultimate thor version, balder, heimdall, three warior, odin comic, enchantress, executioner, destroyer, lady sif, valkyrie, frost giant soldier and king laufey, surtur and many more. if they make that all, im sure these series will not "hide" in the shadow like now.
for cap, yes i agree, we dont need many of him wearing any joke accesorries or outfit, just release like us agent, cross bones, capt britain and add more such as union jack, bucky, and his invaders team and many more

2011 Thor Movie Figure King Loki #12 Wave 3 MOC IN HAND | eBay UK Maybe paint the armor a nice shiney gold too....hmmm... The problem with the Thor line is lack of diversity- wave one was all thor THOR and THOR! They should have put a a couple of wave 2 figs in wave 1 to spice it up- Sif and Volsatgg or at least the Destroyer! Anyone seen a Destroyer in the wild yet? Not me, brothers- only endless vistas of Thor with the occasioanl oasis of a Loki or Odin to break up the dusty landscape of that line. the childish schtick of the accessories really hurts this line, IMO- why have gadgts that suck when Odin could have had an accurate spear? Loki and Thor should have had removable helmets instead of idiotic spring-loaded nonsense. Thor could have had that rock his hammer was stuck in- it would be cool to display that "Excalibur" type scene. Only Tron is a more neglected line of figures at my local Targets....and those toys pretty much suck. Last edited by Jason Abbadon; 05-26-2011 at 11:47 PM.. |

To be fair with thor. He's not quite a character that could really carry his own line. Even with a movie presence, outside of collectors he just doesn't have that same presence to kids as say ironman or cap.
That being said, again a lot of it falls on retailers over-ordering initial waves. Though I do concur that maybe hasbro should have just gone forward with the full cast early on instead of all the thor, loki, and odin figures. It would have pushed more variety early on. Honestly though, I don't think they expected it to sell that well in general outside of select movie figures. Though you'd think the full movie cast, and helmeted thor/loki would have been at the top of that list. I'm not entirely sure pure comic based figures would have sold either though. maybe to collectors, but probably not enough kids to make a big enough dent. Unless they really expanded it to like the thor corps like Beta Ray Bill and thunderstrike among others. |

If you think about it, Thor SHOULD be able to carry his own line well.
Hes a God with super powers, has a cape and is a very moral person. I know he has a cool suit but Tony stark is a womanizer and an alcoholic. Who is more suitable for kids? Although Iron Mans various suits does have mor appeal than Thor because he only really wears 1 suit, and there is an actual reason to have various Iron Man armorss, but no reason to have multiple Thors with silly accessories that he would never use in film or comic. Yeh they really should have mixed the waves up abit. They are sly making the helmets non removable so you tend to buy both figures. By the time you realize they are releasing helmeted figures, you have already bought the non helmeted figs. Sly devils. |

On principal you'd think Thor would. Especially with the rich mythology behind him. For some reason though, he's a character that has mixed appeal to children. Ironman even with his flaws, seems to appeal more to kids because really anyone can be the man in the suit that tony designed(as Rhodey showed in IM2). The same to how kids can relate to spider-man and how any one can be under the mask. Cap has the same notion of everyday weakling becoming a superhero.
Thor on the other hand, is just that, a god. He appeals more to those interested in the aspects of Norse mythology as opposed to the everyday aspects of the other three mentioned. Other than his epic battles, he doesn't really appeal to kids that well. Not until the older ages really towards early teens. Marvel's attempted many times to rectify that and humanize him moreso. One of the best attempts being the new young Thor animated movie. Now as I said, I'm aiming that at for kids. To some they love his fantastical nature and fantasy basis, to others, it's off putting. He's essentially the LOTR of the Marvel universe which makes him less universally appealing as compared to the others. |

The thing is, in terms of figures there really aren't that many Thor variants in this line (in fact there's already more Captain America variants in the Cap line).
The first wave was 3 Thor figures, Loki, Odin, and the Frost Giant. But the case packouts make it even more Thor-heavy. In terms of sales, it seems to move reasonably well at Target and TRU, but Wal-Mart has a wall of Thor figures that don't seem to be moving much (unless it's a Silver Odin). It did seem to pick up briefly the week after the movie, but then stagnated again. I think if Wave 2 had hit the week the movie released it would have worked out much better. Now they're missing the boat and shelves are starting to clog. Glad I've got my preorders in at BBTS. The Cap line has the illusion of moving better, but in truth that line has only barely started to hit. In a few weeks, it'll likely be clogging pegs (almost) as badly as Thor. And no "comic series figures" would not save the Thor line. To most people they'd look even sillier than the movie-based figures. |

I don't think ANY Thor figures have moved in my stores since they were first released. Looks like I'll never be able to get myself a Destroyer as it's IM 2 comic wave 4 all over again.

In my area I have a Zellers and Walmart that have the Thor line in stock... I snagged a light up hammer thor, loki, odin and frost giant, I want the price drop to match the IM2 figures which Zellers has on sale for $4.99, then I would buy 5-10 more frost giants, esepcially the deluxe ones! I want the warriors 3, Sif, a destroyer in 3 3/4'' and 8'' scale, and then the upgraded king loki, and Hemidrill, for the love of God I want that figure, the gold paint apps looks sick, not pumped about the lightning bolt blasters in front but not the worst looking projectile. I really want a king odin with helmet, I wonder if you buy the loki king figure if you could tool out the head sculpt to fit an odin figure! would be amazing as then the helmet would be removable.

Well I'd be all too happy to buy the helmeted versions of Thor & Loki caus ethe other ones aren't as appealing to me & I agree with anybody saying that they were too lazy to make nay comic versions because it made them way more money. Thor & people from his mythos look way more badass as comic book characters

yeah this line is really perplexing my I want the helmeted thor figure, the warriors 3, sif and king loki I prefer getting my figures in stores but Im getting tempted as time goes on to start looking on the ebay route. Ive never seen a movie line taking this long I mean iron man 2 had issues towards the end but just getting wave 1 in stores for this long after the movie release wtf!!!

I've been kind of sleeping on the Thor line. It just hasn't really grabbed my attention too much. I did however finally buy Sword Spike Thor and Odin yesterday. I haven't opened Odin but I did open Thor and while I agree that the figure is too small I have to say, I really like the figure quite a bit.
The sculpt on the armor is nice and the paint apps are pretty spot on. The articulation is great!!!! I actually like it more than I thought I would. That all being said, the line is definitely peg warming around my way. |
