Well I'm glad I bought my Sideshow figures a few years back, because a show like this is going to ruin any chance of finding them for a reasonable price. I think that even if they focus on older stuff, it is still enough to bleed over into what we collect. I remember someone on here mentioning a while back that an old lady was trolling the toy aisles somewhere with a list of shit she didn't even understand trying to make a quick buck. Just imagine dozens of those people lingering around toy aisles for now on. It'd be enough to make me stop collecting altogether.

Y'all are missing the plus side,6-12months down the line after all those people who watch the show buy up shedloads of figures they cant shift, they will be giving the things away to get shut of em!! Yard sales AAAAAHHHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Hahahaha!! As for the show,at least there will be SOMETHING on tv worth watching for an hour a week!!!!

I've got a bunch of them dude. I have my movie monsters on display, but in a couple boxes somewhere I have some crazy and random characters. Guys like Doc Holiday, Hellboy, Vlad the Impaler,...etc. I even had the Shaun of the Dead guys for a while, but I sold them to a lady who wanted to give them to her kid for his birthday (or so she said).

I agree this is a double edge sword I like the concept of the show but if this goes into more modern toy lines this is a potential disaster to us average collectors and scalpers will explode driving prices through the roof. I'm honestly not sure what to think of this til we see the show.
Let just hope for the best but I'm thinking since its about comic con and all will see toy lines from the 80s and up.... |

I think toys like sideshows and hot toys will shoot up a $100 or more and I can barely afford them as it is I still have hopes of getting a war machine eventually....

I really don't think it is going to cause us any major problems, it might slow us down abit. The people who go off and listen to the shows prices are just going to find themselfs waiting on never ending auctions on eBay that won't sell. We know more than anyone the value of the common figure. Scalpers want a quick sale, they don't want to hold on to something they can't sell.
If the show boosts up the price, wait it out. It will go down... That is enless someone is stupid enough to pay the price right away. |

This just means that we're going to have to buy at release time when we get the chance or it'll be gone. I already see this happening without this show, but I can imagine it'll get a lot worse. It's pretty much been consistent in that when I wait more than a week or two to buy a toy at it's release, I find that it's all sold out. I check eBay and there'd be maybe 10 to 20 listings of that item at a largely inflated price. Look at those numbers, though. 10 to 20 listings. That means there are only 10 to 20 sellers and I'm already at a point where I can't find the toys that I want for a reasonable price. It really wouldn't take much to upset this balance and tip it towards the inflated resellers even worse.

i turned the tv on right as prototype missle launcher fett pops up. He spends the show screwing over retired industrial designers. he better stick with the older stuff cause that seems to be the shows focus.

Damn, I should have at least watched the pilot to see how bad it was. The Travel Channel website doesn't say shit about it, so I doubt its online anywhere, at least in a legal capacity.

i just find it hard to believe that after all this time, with all the internet auction sites and classified sites, these people would suddenly open their homes to this guy to buy from them. and from the looks of it non of these people, with the exception of the tomart guy, had any idea what these things were worth. i know from expierience, that if i wanted to get an idea what something is selling for i would look it up on line, not rely on some so called "expert" in the toy field. and one other thing, that guy who owned a the oldest comic shop in cincy that boba fett and had no idea what it was worth, it surprises me how his shop managed to become the oldest, wow.

My big fear is that some new toy gold hunter will come onto this thread and find out they can make a mint by buying up all the Iron Man, Thor and Captain America figures and the Thor Iron Man comic packs. I would hate to see someone score all of those from under my nose! They'd probably only take the main characters too since thats whats popular!

My girlfriend saw it, and she said it was a good show, showed a lot of star wars toys. In fact she said that there was a star wars toy worth ten thousand. I got to see this!

This show ruined collecting for me. The day after it aired I went to the toy store and all the good stuff was gone. I hate this show for that!

Did that really happen? Toy collecting (through retail) has been bad for almost a year now. I remember when Target had a sale where not only were MU figures marked down but they were BOGO. Now there isn't a thing worth buying, but I guess thats good because I couldn't buy them anyway.
