NECA continues their line of 12″ head-to-tail Godzilla figures with a version of Godzilla based on the 1994 film Godzilla vs Space Godzilla. In the film, Godzilla must face Mogera, a UN created machine as well as a space version of himself. Though not typically considered one of the top Godzilla films, the movie featured a striking design for Godzilla and was one of the last films released prior to the reboot in 1999 (after the disastrous original North American version). Also available in this scale is their previously released Godzilla 2014, as well as their upcoming Godzilla 1985 figure. This figure features over 30 points of articulation and stands at 6″ tall.

Overall
I was very pleased with NECA’s Godzilla 2014 Figure back in May, and I think this one may be even better. It features more useful articulations as well as a more classic look. NECA did a really fantastic job at capturing the look of the 1994 version of Big G. The sculpted details are fantastic with variations in the size, shape and depth of the scales. When lights are directly on the figure, the details have a great “pop” to them. They do a great job with the sagging weight look of the suit used for the film, though it seems they may have slimmed his mid-section down just a tad compared to the film version. The legs are thick enough to hold the figure in nearly any pose. The arms have a nice mix of swivel and bending joints. A nice added tough here are the jointed hands. The mouth can also open and close and the neck features a ball joint where the head connects, and can swivel where it meets the torso. The figure has about the best articulation you could expect from the size and price point.
The figure features a nearly black paint scheme, with a very subtle wash of dark green in spots. It’s hard to see, but adds some great depth to the sculpt when the light catches it right. Teh eyes are a dark crimson that stand out from the black figure, as do the white teeth and fins. The only real negative I have is the tail. It definitely appears to be a bit shorter than it should be. It’s a very minor quibble that doesn’t really take away from the design all that much. In the end, for under $20, you can’t beat the value this figure offers. I only hope they see fit to do a few adversaries for these assorted Godzilla’s.
