Along with our previously reviewed Sega Genesis Predator 2 City Hunter Predator, NECA released their Alien 3 Dog Alien NES Classic Game Figure. This figure is a repaint of their excellent Alien 3 Dog Alien 7″ Scale Figure., which was released in December as part of their Alien Series 3 lineup. It’s based on the cut scenes seen in the Alien 3 NES Video Game, and features a split, half red and half blue, paint scheme. Toyark sponsor Big Bad Toy Store provided us with the figure, and I have over 55 high resolution images to check out.

Overall
As is the case with all of their classic game releases, the Dog alien comes packaged in a flapped window box. The art is based on the classic NES packaging. The figure comes with a themed backdrop and sits in a plastic tray which, thankfully, ditches the cut out holes, and goes with a single molded plastic piece. It makes it much easier to remove and return the figure.
After removing it from the packaging, the figure is truly a unique piece among the line. It features a really cool dual paint scheme. When viewed from one side, it’s nearly all blue, while the other has mainly reds and browns. These mimics the lighting from the games cut scenes. The paint highlights this fantastic figure in some great ways. With the colors lighter than the original release, you can really pick up on the tiny details in the jaw, rib cage and limbs. Articulation is still top notch. Just about any pose you can thing of, this figure can do it. While it does include a figure stand, I had no reason to use it. This is mainly due to the bendable tail, which I used to shift weight, or to help prop the figure up. It worked really well for me. I didn’t run into any issues with the figure. Joints were tight, I didn’t run into any paint chipping and there are no issues with the paint application.
The Alien 3 Dog Alien from Series 3 is among the best figures that NECA has ever released. The sculpting is fantastic and the sheer amount of articulation made for a must own figure for Alien fans. With the NES repaint of the figure, NECA gives fans a chance to add some color variety to their Alien ranks, and with the best sculpt in their Xenomorph lineup so far.
