Storm Collectibles Mortal Kombat Reptile – Toyark Photo Shoot

By Joe Moore on February 5, 2018 at 11:05 am under Random Photo Shoot, Video Game Toy News

Disguised as an Earthrealm ninja, the cunning Reptile is a loyal assassin and warrior for Shao Kahn. The last of his kind, Reptile once hid his true form, revealing himself only to those who would fall at his hands. First appearing in the original Mortal Kombat as a hidden opponent, Reptile has evolved greatly throughout the Mortal Kombat series, starting as a color swapped Ninja, and eventually becoming a completely unique character design. His most memorable appearances, though, are from the original two games.

Storm Collectibles has taken their excellent ninja sculpt and reworked it to become Reptile. The figure joins Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Noob Saibot in the growing line, which will see Shao Kahn released next! Our friends at Bluefin have sent along the figure for us to check out. Read on for a full write up and over 60 photos of the excellent figure.

Mortal Kombat – Reptile 1/12 Scale Figure by Storm Collectibles

Pros

  • Excellent sculpt
  • Great articulation and range of motion
  • Unmasked head sculpt is spot on
  • Strong joints allow for dynamic posing with no stand needed
  • Interchangeable MK1 and MK2 masks
  • Interchangeable tongues for Reptile fatalities
  • Acid effects pieces are great

Cons

  • Blood effects would have been welcome here

Overall
The Reptile packaging uses the same collector friendly box style as Noob Saibot, Sub-Zero and Scorpion. The differences are the artwork, photos and bio have been replaced with Reptile themed items. Included along side the figure are multiple interchangeable hands, swappable MK1 and MK2 masks, an interchangeable unmasked Reptile head, dripping liquid acid effects, a Force Ball effects piece, an an interchangeable tongue for the unmasked head sculpt.

The sculpt here is pretty much exactly like the previous three ninja releases from Storm. Articulation, range of motion and paint quality are all on par with those excellent releases. I thankfully ran into no loose joints, paint locked pieces or any other quality control issues. Like those releases, the main differentiation between the ninjas are the character specific accessories. Reptile specific parts include a reptilian head sculpt, an interchangeable lashing tongue, dripping liquid acid that attached to the hands, and an acid force ball effect piece. The Reptile head sculpt is excellent. The sculpted details is handled well, with intricate sculpted scales, sharp looking teeth and deep set eyes. Paint work on the sculpt is handled nicely, with multiple layers of paint used to bring out the sculpting. It includes an articulated jaw, and the tongue attaches to the roof of the mouth in the back. The longer tongue is sturdy when attached, and doesn’t add any significant weight to the figure, so standing is no issue. The dripping acid pieces attach to the open palm hands, and look great. They are cast in a translucent green plastic. The Force Ball attached to the open palm hands as well. It’s light weight, and is cast in the same plastic as the acid pieces.

I know some people are weary of seeing the same mold over and over again. With Reptile, it looks like they are closing out this mold for at least the moment, as Shao Kahn will be the next figure in the line. That said, Reptile is another excellent figure in the line. The base ninja figure is as excellent as the previous releases, and the new parts make for some nice display options. Reptile is available now from most online retailers. Check out some select photos below and the full gallery after that.
