At New York Comic-Con 2019, the final two DC Comics vs Dark Horse Comics sets were made available by NECA Toys. While the sets were originally planned as retail releases a few years back, licensing issues popped up, which prevented that from happening. Negotiations with the various rights holders allowed the four planned sets to be released under strict conditions as convention exclusives. The first two sets were available at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 this past Summer. Those sets included Armored Batman vs Predator, and Superman vs Aliens. For NYCC, a Batman vs Joker Alien Set, and a Green Lantern vs Sinestro Corps Predator Set were available.
Today, thanks to our friends at NECA, I’m sharing my photo gallery and review of the Batman vs Joker Alien set. With this set you receive their all-new Batman and a repainted Resurrection Alien Warrior as the Joker Alien. The Batman figure includes a batarang, and an interchangeable hand. After the jump, you can see my thoughts on the set, as well as a full gallery of both figures.

Overall
Out of all the DC vs Dark Horse sets, this one was perhaps the most anticipated by DC Comics fans. Back when the sets were first announced, most fans zeroed in on the Batman figure as the one figure they really wanted. Now that it’s in-hand, I can say that it lived up to the hype. Though I do wish a few more hands or bat-accessories were included, there’s no denying how well this figure represents a 90’s era comic Batman. the included Joker Alien is a nice touch as well, and makes a very unique addition to the Xenomorph ranks.
I initially didn’t realize how much the NECA Batman and Superman sculpts had in common. The exaggerated muscular body is the same for both figure, as are the closed fist hands (just painted blue for Batman). That, however, works surprisingly well. Not only is that body sculpt outstanding, it keeps the look of the figures very consistent. The sculpt differences on areas like the belts, the forearms and the boots, as well as the vastly different paint apps, make them feel like entirely different sculpts. Like Superman, Batman’s cape is tucked in where the neck and shoulders meet, making Batman’s cape feel like an extension of his cowl. It’s a well made cape, that falls nicely behind the figure and has enough body to it to feel like a natural part of the figure. there’s no wiring in the cape, but I have seen some fans add their own if that’s your sort of thing. Articulation is excellent, with ankle rockers, double jointed knees and elbows, and even classic style ab-crunch. Paint work is very crisp and clean, with no bleeding edges.
The Joker Alien didn’t really have any surprises in store. It’s still a strong Alien sculpt, with plenty of articulation points. The tail is wired, which adds extra stability. The mold looks really good in white, and is reminiscent of the concept Aliens NECA had previously released. Unlike those releases, which were an egg-shell color, this is almost pure white. there are washes of gray over it to break up the brigh paint. The green dome and small red highlights are a nice touch, and do just enough to sell it as a “Joker” Alien. The paint is fairly thick, so keep a hair dryer handy to loosen up any problematic joints. I ran into a few spots, but heat and patience helped to loosen them up with no breakage issues.
If you didn’t grab this during NECA’s online sales, or at NYCC itself, then the aftermarket is going to be the only way to grab this set. If you’re looking for a near flawless comic Batman, then definitely track this set down. With two solid figures, great articulation all around, and a fun concept, the Batman vs Joker Alien set is probably the best of the four exclusives.
