Predator 2 City Demon Predator Ultimate Figure – SDCC 2020 Exclusive by NECA – Toyark Exclusive Photo Shoot

NECA is kicking off a 30th anniversary celebration of Predator 2 with their next San Diego Comic-Con 2020 Exclusive reveal, and we have the first in-hand photo gallery of the upcoming release. The new City Demon Predator Ultimate 7″ Scale Figure features the City Hunter Predator in a partially cloaked state. Cast in clear plastic, the figure features a mix of blue, black, and white paint apps that mimic the lightning strike outside of the Eastern building from the film. The figure includes five interchangeable hands, two smart discs, a collapsed combi stick, an extended combi stick, and a skull. The packaging features a light up feature that flashes lightnign strikes when the window flap is opened.

Overall
The City Demon Predator comes packed in the Ultimate Style flapped window box. The front of the packaging features an image from the film, with a red foil Predator 2 logo. The back showcases the different accessories and the figure. When opened, a light sensor activates a series of flashing lights attached to the plastic tray that simulate a lightning strike (see the videos below). The figure includes a set of open palm hands, a set of gripping hands, and a relaxed right hand. There is a closed smart disc and an open smart disc, a collapsed combi stick, an extended combi stick, and a skull.

Over the years, NECA has done a number of “cloaked” translucent or outright clear Predator figures, especially as convention exclusives. They continue that tradition with the new City Demon Predator. When the Jungle Demon Predator was released, it immediately became one of my favorite Predator releases from NECA. The City Demon Predator is a worthy companion piece, and is just as impressive looking. Cast in a clear plastic, NECA applied paint only on portions of the figure, to give the illusion of the City Demon coming out of his cloaked state. The paint apps are crisp and clean, with some nice lightning style detailing. That paint styling is carried over to the smart discs and the combi sticks as well. Much like the Jungle Demon, the semi-cloaked design is just a great overall look.

The figure uses the updated Ultimate City Hunter body. It appears to use the second run of the Ultimate body, which fixed a few quality control issues that the first batch of Ultimate City Hunters had. This means the joints are more solid, and the hinge on the left hand gauntlet is better constructed. The figure has about 30 points of articulation overall, with double jointed knees and elbows, and a ball jointed torso. The range of motion is great, as the City Hunter design has no cables or wiring on the armor like the Jungle Hunter. The joints were solid, and the painted sections had no locking issues.The hands swapped out with no issues as well. The grip hands hold the discs and the combi sticks tightly. You can place the combi sticks on the Predators back, and the closed smart disc fits nicely onto the right leg. the only real issue I had was that the extended combi stick uses a slightly soft plastic in the center, and it warps just slightly.

In the end, this is a fun release that continues their tradition of clear Predator exclusives. The light up packaging is a nice touch, and the figure itself is one of their best takes on the City Hunter. Check out a selection of photos and two videos below, and the full gallery after that.
