Voltron Defender of the Universe Deluxe Figure by Super7 – Toyark Photo Shoot

The Super7 Voltron: Defender of the Universe – Deluxe 7″ Scale Voltron Figure has been released, and is in the hands of most who ordered the figure. Unlike most Voltron collectibles, this is a pure action figure and does not transform. The figure is modeled after his original cartoon aesthetic, with smoother detailing and bright, solid colors. The figure stands about 7″ tall, and includes interchangeable hands, a sword, and shield.

Overall
The Voltron figure comes packed in a brown mailer box, much like we’ve seen with their Masters of the Universe figures. Inside the mailer, there’s a window box with a slipcover. The slipcover shows the emblem from Voltron’s chest on the front, and a foil logo on the back. Voltron sits in a plastic tray, and once removed, he can easily be placed back in for storage or display. The figure includes swap out red and green lion head hands, a sword, and a shield.

Out of the box, the new Voltron looks pretty sharp in hand. It has a great cartoon look to it, with much smoother sculpting compared to most Voltron releases. The figure has a hefty weight to it as well, feeling like a really solid vinyl. I could definitely see fans putting this on an 80’s shelf alongside a modern G1 style Optimus Prime, He-Man, and Lion-O. Collectors looking for a definitive Voltron “action figure” probably aren’t going to enjoy this as much. While it has the right look, the articulation leaves a lot to be desired. Single jointed knees and elbows, no moveable jaws on the lion heads, and hips that only allow for forward and backward motion will hinder a lot of dynamic posing. It’s not terrible, but I had hoped for a better range of motion since it was forgoing the transformation gimmick. The joints themselves are all sturdy, with no paint locking or noticeably loose areas.

The Ultimates Voltron is a fun release. It’s not the best Voltron figure you’ll find out there, but it’s one of the best cartoon representations I’ve seen. It will look fantastic on your shelf, with a solid sculpt, and bright paint work. The limited articulation is a bit disappointing for those used to super articulated robots.
