I really need to pay better attention, lol. Although I've only watched it twice. Once by myself in the theater and once at home, distracted by explaining every scene to my girl.........

This movie is supposed to be Loki and potentially the skrulls, but it is some kind of invading massive space-faring force.

Next movie may expand out to other cosmic concepts like thanos, though I do hope eventually for ultron. I hope they explore some of the bigger 'earthbound' massive threats.

We may see a few low level threats taken out by individual team members as they are deciding on whether to join the team, or right before recruitment, but I wouldn't count on many low level threats. That's something for their individual movies. The avengers movies are for the massive threats that you need all of them to contend with. Stuff like Loki and his suggested army of changeling mischief makers or whatever threats he brings with him, Ultron and his hordes of robotic threats and unbeatable nature, Kang and his time traveling nature, among any others of a larger less direct to any one hero nature. Avengers is supposed to be something of a massive scale, so opponents of similiar nature seem about right, including the Kree, Skrulls, Thanos, and more.

This might explain the push for a Guardians of the Galaxy film too. It'd allow a direct connection or build up into Thanos and them in the avengers movie, as well as beta ray bill in Thor, or granted access to asgard to become like thor. (GotG will rock as much as MiB did!)

Lots of potential, but I do have one question. Didn't disney buy back the distro rights from paramount? What'd Paramount offer? Why is their name still attached to this film? Did marvel want another scapegoat on the off chance this does poorly? (Like they pulled with Punisher Warzone.)

That's the popular theory at the moment... I think Kotaku had some shots of a nixed video game that revealed Skrull troopers, and some of the set photos have revealed alien weaponry lying around.

But holy crap, my jaw hit the ground watching this trailer... Haven't been this excited for a movie since the Dark Knight. This is going to be fantastic.

Disney only bought back the home video rights, I believe. Presumably so they can distribute it themselves through Buena Vista or some other in-house distributor.

But Paramount still has the theatrical distro rights, hence the credit.

All that's known for certain is that there is an invading force of some kind that the Avengers must deal with. As Snow said, there are several possibilities within the MU. Skrulls are the most likely (given the success of Secret Invasion), but there is also Loki's army, the Kree, or the Atlanteans, among others.

Odin's vault in Thor is such a damn tease... So many things they could have link into future movie threats. But Everyone's been eager to see if Thanos will appear in the future, and I don't blame them!

This trailer looks damn impressive. I have high expectations for this movie and id be shocked if it lives up to my expectations and any less would be disappointing. If it does then itll be one of the best movies of the year and in the running for best super hero movie of all time so far.

You guys have some great theories... and somehow I missed the Gauntlet in Thor too, but not I'm kinda getting giddy about it.

Loki wasn't shapeshifting, he was actually there... He was invisible, and leading Selvig (the scientist) along to work with the cosmic cube so he can get at it himself. A great teaser for the Captain America movie.

Yeh that was the cosmic cube at the end there in the briefcase, not the gauntlet. that one still remains in asgard, so far as we know!!!

I kinda get the feeling Thanos may be in this film but not till the very end. Possibly leading the skrulls. Thus setting up Avengers 2.

P.S I could have sworn marvel mentioned the invading force would be shapeshifters.

This kind of sounds like something they'd do. Why waste two solid villains in one movie (Loki and Thanos)? They did it in Spidy 3 and I thing the film suffered a bit.

Either way, Thanos is coming out tonight (that's what she said) when I get home.

Yeah thats what I thought too. Plus it gives them time to decide if they wanna make him CGI or makeup.

Need I remind you of the horror that was known as what they tried with Thing in Fantastic four

Yeah, we're probably not going to have to deal with Thanos this movie. I'm happy with just Skrull's and Loki.

Just coming back to Hawkeye though, I actually prefer him without cowl... My favorite version of Hawkeye was always the Ultimate version (When he was introduced, not his current costume) and I just find his regular costume goofy.

Agreed. His Ultimate appearance was the start of some really good things for Hawkeye. I mean hes always edged on being top teir but after his debut in Ultimate comics he really took off.
