It takes place in a continuity separate from the other GI Joe series. For more details hit the title bar!
Comic Book Resources has interviewed Andy Schmidt of IDW recently, and their interview has revealed new details on GI Joe Future Noir. The series so far will be told in 2 56 page issues. While the other GI Joe series by IDW take on a more realistic approach, Future Noir goes for a more over the top approach. It takes place in a continuity separate from the other GI Joe series.

The cast is young and here are the characters mentioned so far:
  • Snake Eyes
  • Duke
  • Scarlett
  • Roadblock
  • Sci Fi
  • Agent Helix
  • King Cobra a new terrorist leader
The series is highly styalized, drawn in black & white and emulates manga to an extent. Here's more from the interview:

"G.I. Joe: Future Noir" will be published as two deluxe issues rather than using a more traditional miniseries format - there is enough content for about five standard-size issues - which Schmidt said "allows us to add some extra content in the back of the books that seemed like fun - pin-ups, character design type stuff."

IDW already publishes several distinct "G.I. Joe" universes: that of the ongoing and "Cobra" books, the movie universe, and Larry Hama's "Real American Hero," which continues the Marvel Comics continuity. Schmidt said, however, that "Future Noir" is unlikely to become a new line in its own right, though more stories in this vein are possible. "I don't think it'll develop into a monthly comic. We've got enough already, but if this is successful and folks like it and want more, I'd be up for doing another mini or two down the road," Schmidt said. "But that's all kind of cart-before-the-horse stuff. Let's get this one out there. It's very different, and based on that alone, fans might reject it. Or, it could be a breath of fresh air. We won't know for sure until orders come in and the book is in fans' hands."

HISS Tank boards member fdny71 has reviewed some rather rare figures from GI Joe Rise Of Cobra:
  • Snake Eyes with web gear
  • Storm Shadow from the final duel, unmasked; shirtless
Unlike the previous mass market versions, these 2 Arashikage Sword Brothers lack action attack. Not to mention, these were not released in the US. In fact, fdny71's girlfriend bought these in Greece!

We have not seen these figures since late last year. Even then, what we saw last year were unpainted preproduction samples. To catch a glimpse of these rare figures and to see how they turned out, hit the title bar!

In what may be classified as a stroke of luck, HISS Tank boards member dantedmc37 has stumbled upon the canceled Ninja Commandos Budo at a vintage toy store in Rhode Island; for $2.99! This figure was planned for release in 1995, but with the GI Joe A Real American Hero line's cancellation in 1994, Budo and the other Ninja Commandos never made it to retail shelves.

Hit the title bar to check out the last version of Budo from the venerable GI Joe A Real American Hero line!
