I said over in the "passed up" thread that I don't care for them. The deluxe figures look cheap as individual toys, most likely due to accommodating their combining gimmick. The final combinations could even be cool, but the individuals appear to suffer for it.

I definitely get why you distrust NECA on account of how often they've failed you, though I guess it does still strike me as strange that it was the Predator line that you experienced most trouble with. I always look those over if I find any in stores and they always looked more consistently acceptable to me, good enough paint and I don't usually see anything like my Hive Wars' arm. Combining that with the good quality of 6 out of 7 Predators I had it looks like the line is generally good, key word being looks. I absolutely see why their Jaeger line has so many bumps since these robots can have some very strange designs like Tacit Ronin that almost any company would have a hard time making it look good and have any pose at all, though their Kaiju line is much more solid on all fronts.
I fail to see why you find what I've said about the Predator line so strange. Have you read about the problems of series 1-3 of Predator? After seeing all of that I'm glad I missed out on them. Of the Predators that I have yet to open, I think I'm most concerned with Bad Blood. If the formula holds true with the crappy NECA joints then I'm going to be really angry if that figure falls off my shelf since he has so many adornments and optional decorations on him. Regarding figures like Tacit Ronin, that's stuff from another line I don't collect. I've seen them in stores once or twice but never gave them a look. Considering Trivial's experience with them I think I'll leave them on the pegs if I see them for sale again. Quote:
Do you actually consider NECA lines overpriced? I always thought they were actually pretty well priced when you consider the 6" toy from Hasbro is $20. Some NECA stuff goes for less than twenty and is still bigger and better looking, but then with less durability and/or pose. It is worth mentioning, since I haven't before, that since I grew up having the McFarlane Spawn stuff (which was all looks and no usable pose) I don't really care if NECA stuff has too much pose. I'm really glad they give us the pose they do, but I wind up only focusing on moving heads and arms for most of the stuff I get from them. This could be another reason I don't discover the QC issues you do, I don't really dig deep enough to find them.
Now that I think about it, how about the upcoming Blade Fighter vehicle going for around $100? That's even more absurd and makes that vehicle a really easy pass for me. If you're not discovering the QC issues then you're either allowing your personal bias to cloud your judgement or as you said, you aren't digging deep enough to find them. I expect a quality product and that's not happening. 1 or 2 series with some hiccups is one thing, but allowing 10 series of figures to go on is just ridiculous. So you grew up with McFarlane... funny you mentioned that, I dug up some old figures from Sleepy Hollow and Movie Maniacs that I had in storage the other day. The Jason Voorhees figure looks better than the newer NECA Jason figures that I've seen in my opinion. Quote:
Finally, it feels like you put a curse on TimothyR. Just the way you worded it had this kind of foreboding thing going on. I know you wished me luck in avoiding NECA's QC landmine field and then I wished you luck in your toy pursuits, so I don't know it just kind of gave me a chuckle how you said that bit.

I took Tacit back to TRU today, and thankfully they were able to accept the return, being that the figure was damaged in a manner that one is not able to spot from simply looking at the packaging. It also helped that I returned all of the original packaging, which I'm helps TRU in the write off process so they get their money back from the vendor. Of course though, there were no Tacit's available to even exchange as NECA's distribution is nearly as pathetic as their customer service, at least in my town.

It's a damn shame, because I'm somewhat of a completionist when it comes to collecting certain lines, and Tacit was a figure that I was eagerly looking forward to. I've seen places online where I can pick him up for fairly cheap, but I wonder if it's even worth the trouble at this point. I may still pick him up, because I really wanted that figure, but sure enough, going forward, I'm done with the line.

6 out of 7 for you? Just curious, are you new to the line? I've been collecting Predator since series 4 and that would make it 0 out of 15 Predators in my case that I've opened if I'm doing my math correctly. All of them have had issues, the biggest of them being crap joints. I'm constantly having to re-balance the Predators I have on display because they all look like they're about to fall off my shelf.

The Jason Voorhees figure looks better than the newer NECA Jason figures that I've seen in my opinion. A curse? Hardly. It's inevitable that it will happen. McFarlane's toys that had any usable pose were complete crap in the durability category, every single Predator or Alien I bought from them had something break. Most often it was wrist blades, mandibles, tails, and hands or feet. Some McFarlane stuff does hold up pretty well, but only if it has little or no pose or if it was going back to their actual action figures from Spawn. In any situation those who have been wronged are always going to be more vocal than those who are pleased with the results, even when those wronged are the minority. Every company has QC issues, I can't think of a single toy manufacturer that hasn't had at least one problem even if it's not recurring. Finally, yes the Blade Fighter vehicle's price is stupid. I have no clue how that thing is the same price as the Alien Queen and their 1/4 scale figures.

![]() At least the height is right, since Hodder was the shortest guy to play Jason. IMHO though, even the NECA FvsJ Jason is better looking than the McFarlane, even though the big bastard has a QC issue of his own and cannot stand without support (note the stand on his leg to keep him upright.) ![]() While this one has the face that only a mother could love. Hands down my favorite! =) ![]() Quote:
On a final note, I could not help myself and was able to find another Tacit Ronin on Ebay at a price less than TRU retail (as the figure was sold loose, but in the inner clamshell.) I was able to have it inspected by the seller before he sold it to me, and it arrived in perfect condition. I had to spend a half an hour or so with the hair dryer on it, but at least I finally have him. Going forward though, I'm pretty much done with this line, unless they end up making a Striker that's a more durable improvement on the crappy one that we got. It's just not worth the trouble, nor the heartache. |

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!
I'm not very aware of Transformers modern linesand their names, but as a G1 lover I'm always interested in getting some G1-lookalike modern toys, so I was wondering if this new "combiners"(?) line blends well with THESE ONES. I have a few of them, and love their design... but many of them got pricey over time... And some even update to better. Like the Leader jetfire out now scales better to the classics/generations than the classics jetfire does. |

Transformers toys have gradually gotten smaller and smaller as the time has passed...especially in the deluxe class figure department. Some of the Generations line scales nicely (Grimlock, Blitzwing, Sideswipe, and Waspinator come to mind) but others are tiny in comparison to that particular wave we're mentioning (such as Armada Starscream, Orion Pax, Megatron and most of the Combaticons that formed Bruticus.) i mean.. all of his extremities are completely hollow.. even the out side part of his forearms.. it's pathetic.. and for $45.. a leader figure with no electronics.. it's a ripoff especially when compared to leaders we got a couple years ago. who were solid, not as simplistic, came with electronics and were a bit larger. trust me.. i'm not a fan of electronic lights and sounds in these figures.. but if i'm going to pay the price for them, i might as well get them.. but here, you're paying the price but getting nothing in return. |
