It works well within the story. There is a reason for all the gear and armor. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, so I’ll not go further into it. The series is a huge departure from the nonsensical toy commercial show of the 80’s. Instead of a moral tacked on to the end, this has moral truths woven through the very story. Kevin Smith did an admirable job.
