Maybe they didn’t sell well in the past couple of years because companies couldn’t care enough to make them look good. Remember the toybiz, original Hasbro, and original Mattel ladies and how they were lanky and had really weird proportions, and if you did your research you would know that is probably we’re those stats are coming from.

Just look at how good the recent marvel legends ladies have sold when the company actually put effort into them (Scarlett witch, sylvie, captain carter, tigra, Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson, spider woman, mystique, Emma frost, binary, classic rouge, may Parker spider girl, Typhoid Mary, scream, ect.). When companies listen to the fans and try to improve they will sell.
I also think demographics play into why those statistics can't be relied upon. I can only speak from an anecdotal standpoint, but when I was a kid who collected action figures I was insecure about having female figures because I thought people for whatever reason would mock me and think I was girlish. So the only female figures I had were ones that came with male ones or were Lego figures. As an adult, I've come to realize how ridiculous that mindset was and have actually come to love having and collecting female action figures. Part of the reason I came back to figure collecting was to add more women to my collection. So it's possible that they don't sell well with kids but sell well with older collectors, I don't know if those statistics ever had breakdowns like that or if they just went with the assumption the only action figure collectors are kids. Which makes those all the more misleading.

Even then McFarlane Toys' figures aren't really geared to kids per se, they are more so geared to adult and adolescent collectors. The Spawn and Mortal Kombat figures have "Not A Toy" on top of the boxes. DC Multiverse is a different story, but still, Todd & Co. aren't really selling it to people like 10-year-old me who was insecure about having female action figures, they're selling it to 24-year-old me who wants more female action figures. Spin Masters makes DC-themed toys geared to kids. So I don't understand why Todd & Co. act like their clientele are kids.

Oh yeah. Those early women figures were so weird looking, especially Toybiz Marvel Legends figures. I found Toybiz Black Widow and Elektra Marvel Legends figures at Retro Zone, and man their faces look weird. In contrast to the Hasbro Marvel Legends Retro Black Widow, I got from Vintage Stock the Toybiz one has an inferior head sculpt. Also, the Toybiz era was also when toy companies gave women figures weird articulation. Instead of having legs that move up and down the had legs that moved around, it's hard to describe. The JLU Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl I have had that weird articulation and Toybiz Marvel Legends Elektra also has that weird leg articulation. How the times have changed. Now they look great. My favorite female fig I currently have is the GI Joe Classified Comics Scarlett, her face is gorgeous and her articulation is great.

This is why I don't have a DC Multiverse Wonder Woman, all the Wonder Woman figures McFarlane have to offer are weird variants they have yet to make a normal Wonder Woman from the comics. The only Wonder Woman they have to offer so far that I want is the movie WW that's the normal look, not the golden armor one. I have only gotten their Batgirls and Catwomen.

McFarlane still hasn't touched on B-Listers let alone C-Listers. Where's our Black Canary, Huntress, Captain Atom, Blue Beatle, Major Force, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Lady Shiva, Kitana, or Supergirl. If they haven't gotten to those characters, they'll never get to obscure names.

Batman is the only character WB/DC has any confidence in. Even Mattel had the scale in Batman's favor when they made DC lines. Hell, they had separate collectibles lines exclusively for Batman in addition to him being in the DC Super Heroes, DC Universe Classics, and DC Multiverse lines. There was the 2003 Batman line and Batman Legacy. Is anyone going to tell me that WB/DC isn't demanding more Harley figures? They market the hell out of Harley Quinn in every other sector of merchandising and media, they seriously aren't asking Todd and his company to make 50 billion Harley figures. Just 50 billion Batman figs I guess.

To which I will imply it again, Batman is DC's cash cow and they will milk it for what it's worth, other characters be damned. I would call Todd sexist if he absolutely refuses to release any female DC character like Wonder Woman but he would lose money in the process and earn the ire of DC if that happened.

And we can always ignore a toy company if they don't give us the figures that we like in the first place. Or you can just write to the company itself. Better than me ranting all day about toys that should bring us joy in the first place.

You missed the point, Todd is sexist because he says he CHOOSES not to include more than two females in a wave because it wouldn’t sell and even then he only half the time includes even one female let alone two. He also kinda said a kid getting a female figure will turn them into a serial killer. Also let’s not forget how Todd has treated the females in his past lines like spawn, mcfarlanes monsters, tortured souls.

I agree with everything your saying, especially the fact it’s not dc’s fault Todd focuses on Batman. As you said dc really pushes Harley and even more recently poison Ivy but mcfarlane hasn’t made any ivy’s or even a good comic Harley.

Again with the "sexist" part? Jeezuz. Male action figures sell more than females, that's a fact. And the "getting female action figures turns children into serial killers" part is new to me and sounds more of a joke than an actual fact. If you're really concerned about McFarlane's attitude and his ways of running a business, just write to him directly or you can ignore his product from now on. I don't think it's that hard to do and I doubt that Todd browses online toy forums to hear our complaints here.

Todd Literally said that in an interview with Shartimus Prime and got dragged on Twitter because of how stupid id sounded.

Having watched part of the interview, it seems more of a jest at that time. If Todd really believes this, then he shouldn't be making female figures at all. The only thing true about the "serial killer" thing are those children and adults with very screwed upbringing that use their imagination in a negative way.

It's not a fact, its an assumption. A sexist assumption at that. One that is proven false by Marvel Legends, Black Series, Mythic Legions, GI Joe, Fortnite and a multitude of other ranges where many female figures are often hard to find and command the highest secondary market prices.

Truth hurts, I know. Sexist labels don't work for me.

Same can be said about male action figures too.

I'm not sure why you think that is some kind of counterpoint? The argument is not "only female figures sell" the argument is "female characters do not sell less because they are female". No one is going to argue that a figure of Lois Lane is going to sell as well as Superman or Batman, but the assumption that any female figure wouldn't sell enough to justify production because she is female is sexist and false.

I wasn't aware of the recent Ivy push. Maybe it's because of the Harley connection so they're pushing her more and more in conjuncture with Harley. Harley is a bit more upfront and DC has started putting her in places where she doesn't belong like she's now on the Justice League and Birds of Prey that's a bit too far. Don't mind seeing more Harley content, but those are just bridges too far. It's deeply disappointing that we don't have any Ivys from McFarlane, and that the only Harleys McFarlane has to offer are movie and animated versions and even then McFarlane didn't use Harley's best look from The Suicide Squad in their line. Also, the only Catwoman figures McFarlane has to offer are from The Batman, none from the comics.

And Mattel's DC Multiverse and DC Direct's DC Essentials.

Exactly, Lois Lane wouldn't sell as well as Superman because she's a civilian character not because she's a woman, there isn't much action or enjoyment out of having civilian characters. It's the same reason Perry White or Alfred wouldn't sell as well as Wonder Woman or Catwoman. Most figure collectors prefer hero and villain characters, not civilians. The demand just isn't there for civilians, the demand is there for heroines and villainesses.

I wonder what part of "male action figures sell more than females" is so hard to understand. Would I want a classic Wonder Woman? Of course I do. The demand is there but how many of those people will buy? A lot, most probably. But then again, it still rests on DC and Todd what figures they'll release.

So to re-iterate again, if people here are concerned with how Todd is running things, either email him that we need more female figures or ignore his products from now on. Because at the end of the day, there will always be something to complain here and Todd will still be producing figures.

This thread is getting de-railed by this back and forth argument about "sexism," so to go back to the topic, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Deathstroke blue version in the future.

It's not that it is hard to understand, it's that it isn't true. Batman and Superman are the highest selling DC characters because they are decades old pop culture icons not because they are male. For "male action figures sell more than females" to be true a character like Ocean Master would have to be guaranteed to sell more than Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Catwoman or Poison Ivy simply because he is male and they are not.

This is a discussion forum, we can discuss things AND provide feedback to McFarlane, they aren't mutually exclusive. Talking about how we want more female characters is no less valid than talking about you want a blue version of Deathstroke.

Again, if people want to send feedback to McFarlane, contacting his office is the best way or people can ignore his products overall so he gets the hint. We can always rant on how "Todd is evil blah blah blah" all day unless people take the initiative to contact their offices to voice their concerns. That's more productive.

One of the biggest complaints from customers according to the toy stores I've spoken to seems to be there's rarely a 'normal' looking Superman or Batman among all those variants. A lot of people just want a figure of those guys looking how they know them as and don't read all the comics these crazy variations and other universe versions are from. With Batman you can more or less be satisfied with some of his many, many looks, as a few look mostly similar to each other. But Supes, his iconic look appears to be so much more ingrained into public conciousness in a more specific way. Most people don't want him in black or Death Metal or with Joker face or whatever. They just want a regular Superman which was seen in wave 1 but then became super difficult to get. The Rebirth figure was alright but again casual customers were put off by the lack of red trunks and boots. Been trying to find the wave 1 figure for my kid who's very specific. I've taken him to Forbidden Planet a few times and that huge wall of McFarlane figures and each time he just isn't interested in any of them, he thinks most of them look ugly and weird. I pointed out the DKR Superman has the classic costume but he finds the Frank Miller aesthetic hideous (which to be fair, I kinda agree, that Supes looks kinda hulk-like. lol)

He kinda reminds me of Captain Hero from Drawn Together.

Yeah the ivy push has been happening in comics and dc tv shows, more than likely due to her rising popularity and her affiliation with Harley Quinn and Batman. I would kill to get a comic based Ivy, Harley and Catwoman.

I pointed out the DKR Superman has the classic costume but he finds the Frank Miller aesthetic hideous (which to be fair, I kinda agree, that Supes looks kinda hulk-like. lol)
I've looked for that Action #1000 Superman quite a few times at various stores, but he's become quite a challenge to find. You can find other Supermen, but I agree that most fans really don't want the Metal, or Zombie, or Jokerized, or even the Snyder and DKR, they want the original.

Or the Animated look, but frankly I think the Animated style figures in this line look weird.

Aye I was talking to my best mate about it all earlier and he tells me the discount store B&M had the first wave in about a year and half ago for just £9.99 each including that Superman and he kicks himself for not buying that one too as this was sometime before he got hooked on Masterverse and that Superman is an ideal height and look to crossover with He-Man like they did way back in DC Comics Presents issue 47 which came out 40 years ago. lol. So aye we're both looking for that figure.

Aye, something off about them. Not as good as the DC Collectables ones that kicked off with BTAS some years ago.

The 2 pack with a variant of AC #1000 Superman is still available on Amazon for retail price. The big difference between the 2 pack and single carded is the face. The 2 pack Superman looks angry while the single card version is calm.

Also, the 7” Page Punchers Superman is starting to arrive. I’ve seen people mention they’ve started getting figures from Amazon. BBTS sent me an email tonight to let me know they would be processing preorders soon.

Aye they had that in the store but it's expensive and my kid didn't like the angry face on Superman and said it doesn't fit his character for like 99 percent of the time lol

Maybe I could get it and swap the head with a non-angry Superman who has less appealing outfit. lol

What's with the weird head on that page punchers one I just googled?
