With Batman you can more or less be satisfied with some of his many, many looks, as a few look mostly similar to each other. But Supes, his iconic look appears to be so much more ingrained into public conciousness in a more specific way. Most people don't want him in black or Death Metal or with Joker face or whatever. They just want a regular Superman which was seen in wave 1 but then became super difficult to get. The Rebirth figure was alright but again casual customers were put off by the lack of red trunks and boots. Been trying to find the wave 1 figure for my kid who's very specific. I've taken him to Forbidden Planet a few times and that huge wall of McFarlane figures and each time he just isn't interested in any of them, he thinks most of them look ugly and weird. I pointed out the DKR Superman has the classic costume but he finds the Frank Miller aesthetic hideous (which to be fair, I kinda agree, that Supes looks kinda hulk-like. lol)
Yep this is how I’m collecting them, I only get the ones that fit as close to classic comic look as possible, so like 98% of the figures I skip, apart from the DCAU ones, but that’s only because the DCAU holds a special place in my heart

Maybe I could get it and swap the head with a non-angry Superman who has less appealing outfit. lol

What's with the weird head on that page punchers one I just googled?
The angry head definitely doesn’t suit Superman, if only we could get a classic trinity three pack.

I agree. A classic trinity set in their most iconic looks and all with faces that actually suit their usual personalities and are well sculpted. I think that would sell a ton.

Exactly, Lois Lane wouldn't sell as well as Superman because she's a civilian character not because she's a woman, there isn't much action or enjoyment out of having civilian characters. It's the same reason Perry White or Alfred wouldn't sell as well as Wonder Woman or Catwoman. Most figure collectors prefer hero and villain characters, not civilians. The demand just isn't there for civilians, the demand is there for heroines and villainesses.
But I need civilians, but preferably the ones that are well known. How many Lois Lane figures have you seen made? I could only count on one hand. Plus, civilian figure gotta be cheap, like $15 max, then I’ll buy it.

Yes and I love them, it’s depressing to think about how we may never see all three in their comic outfits included in the dc multiverse line.

Yeah. I don't believe Mattel got those three in those costumes in their Multiverse, and neither Catwoman in their DCUC line had the black suit just purple costumes. The only black-suited Catwoman Mattel made was in the DCSH line, but that's expensive. DC Direct included all of them in their Batman Hush line.

Yeah. Miller's Superman is just so weird looking, Dark Knight Returns marked the downturn in Miller's artwork because it's just getting worse. The DC Direct Dark Knight Returns figures don't look much better, I think Miller's art style doesn't translate to plastic well, it doesn't help that it's not a very good art style. The broader point is true even as a kid I wanted figures of characters that looked like the normal version, sometimes I settled for slight recolors as long as they didn't deviate far from the OG. For example when it came to the 4" The Batman figures I settled for a Batman that had a light blue body paint and grey utility belt because it resembled the standard Batman close enough that I didn't complain. I did get a Batman that had the normal color scheme but it had the grapple gun sculpted to its right arm and was a stiff arm to hold the string. Still love that figure because it looks like Batman from that show. For the Batman Begins figures on that scale, I got a Batman that had a black and grey color scheme, it was basically the same sculpt as the standard Batman from the Begins line but had the comic book color scheme so I was very satisfied. I did get the normal Batman for the Dark Knight toy line on that scale. Yeah, I think Superman's look has been planted into the casual consciousness because the films went with the trunks until Man of Steel, while Batman always had a solid black suit on screen after Batman The Movie (1966) and until Batman V Superman where he had the black and grey suit. So Batman's trunks aren't as ingrained into the casual consciousness. Personally, I can live without the trunks, I have plenty of Superman with them, and I can have a few without them. I also find them outdated. I still like to have figures with them for the purpose of showing off classic looks.

Or the Animated look, but frankly I think the Animated style figures in this line look weird.
The McFarlane DCAU Superman figure looks more like the Superman Doomsday (2007) Superman than it does the STAS/DCAU Superman. DC Direct does a better job at translating the animated looks to plastic. I will say with the Snyder Superman that appeals to folks who like to collect movie inspired figures, if you like to have movie inspired figures then it's for you, if you prefer comics inspired figures then the figure isn't for you. That's my broad reading of movie inspired figures. I completely agree with the Zombie, Jokerfied, and Metal figures, I'm not even a fan of those looks in the comics let alone in the form of an action figure. I will get the Solar Superman suit if I find a good deal for it.

Man, you'd think we'd get more figures of the Bat-Rogues (male and female alike) in some more comic-based designs (probably the reason I'm getting that Infinite Frontier/Fear State Scarecrow) rather than getting variations of Batman that nobody asked for...instead of presumably the ones fans do want. I dunno, I guess I had some tunnel vision in thinking "Oh, Todd's a Batman fan, so he'll probably make a bunch of each of the heroes and villains", but instead he just literally puts a handful of Batman variants in each wave. But I guess that's just how it is for McFarlane.

Going off of his two interviews with ShartimusPrime, much as it has been repeated in this thread, Todd lives and breathes by "rule of cool", but that's a double-edged sword. Sure, there are some figures that Todd makes that fans legitimately want (his new Bane is one of the best examples, top marks across the board) that are appealing to the eye, but then there's just the utter army of Batman variants that could've easily been replaced by a Bat-Rogue (a classic Poison Ivy, a classic or New 52 Harley, a classic black-suited Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Ra's al Ghul, Lady Shiva, Arkham female Copperhead, Black Mask, Deadshot, Anarky, just ANYBODY) or another member of the Bat-Family (Kate Kane, Cassandra Cain, Spoiler, or even Batwing...but Terry's a good exception though). It wouldn't necessarily be a repeat of what Mattel with DCUC did because it'd be in a new scale, not to mention altered articulation and Todd's own design mindset.

I give kudos to Todd for sticking to what he knows works. The question now, though, is how long it'll be until he decides to loosen up and start making the character figures (female or otherwise) his fans have been asking for. I remember ShartimusPrime reaffirming that Todd and the crew are "listening and trying to be better", so hopefully that includes better figure variation (seriously, Shart's shelf looks like it's about 75% Batmen, so hopefully it happens soon).

And here I was pondering if I should get that Play Arts Kai Arkham Ivy, holy cow that looks good...wonder how much it'd be, though. When's Mafex releasing it?

They haven’t announced a pre order date or release date, I’m hoping we won’t be in the dark for too long now.

And if you can find the play arts Kai ivy at a decent price I highly recommend her, she is drop dead gorgeous.
