I'd love it if we didn't have Master licenses. I have no idea how it works in Japan, but when Disney got Star Wars they basically let everyone give it a shot to do 1/12 figures there and was a fun time collecting.

Hasbro: Are you someone who wants better engagement with a brand, we have a product with photorealistic faces at a low price. Want to buy one?

It's to attract customers and other business were also exploring this.
When technology develops to a point to keep costs love, companies may adopt this to meet or exceed the competition.

I just don't like that they kinda leave those of us who have been collecting the 6" lines from Mattel for the past... 10+ years high and dry. Other than characters who are generally larger than average, there's no reason to collect the line.

These things look absolutely terrible. The animated Batman in particular is horribly off-model and just clunky looking. Nearly everything shown also has super soft looking sculpts. Hard pass.

Marvel Legends is $20 but the quality is all over. There are some impressive figures in the line. There are many "basic" figures though. Where the body is the same exact body as all the other guys sans a paint job. Underwhelming. To put it bluntly, these look half-a$$ed. McFarlane toys needs to stop being arrogant, and making lines in scales that don't work with any other major toy lines. Besides that, though, the sculpts just don't look great. The modern Batman and Batgirl look the best, I'd say (though I'm not familiar with the current comics, so I can't vouch for accuracy).

The animated figures just look off- they just look kind of rough, the head on Batman looks terrible, the unpainted black balls at John Stewart's shoulder joints break up the green on his costume in a visually jarring way. Harley looks like she's stoned and/or about to fall asleep. Nightwing's arms are freakishly short. The plastic capes are too pre-posed, and will limit realistic display options. The articulation is ample, but most of it has not been well-integrated in to the sculpts, and just looks bad. As has been mentioned, there is a lot of "diaper crotch" going on. We have already gotten much better versions of some of these figures by one, or even two, other companies already. The build-a-not-to-scale-tiny-Batmobile idea is a terrible idea, as opposed to an actual Build-A-Figure- no one is going to care. Since it's McFarlane, the plastic is going to be so-so quality, and not the most durable.

McFarlane should have tried to do something to really "Wow" collectors out of the gate, to get them hooked on their new line - pony up the money to make a Jack Nicholson Joker figure, etc.. It's also a big missed opportunity- they have all of these figures from various sources; it would be great to have a line all in the same scale that gave truly accurate representations of characters based on specific art from various eras- Give us Silver Age versions of all of the original Justice League members; give us figures of Darkseid, Mister Miracle and Big Barda that look EXACTLY like Jack Kirby's art; DC Direct has done different lines like that, but the scales didn't always go together well, and differing articulation styles, etc., didn't make them all display well together. Instead, we get a mix of figures thar are largely Batmans and Supermans, all based on relatively modern source material, much of it very modern; and none of them really capturing the look of the art they're based on perfectly. I feel like Mattel had made some great improvements in their 6-inch DC figures in the past couple of years (Improving the look and functionality of the articulation, most notably; including things like multiple sets of interchangeable hands, etc..). I would much rather have seen Mattel keep the license. Honestly, at $9.99 each, the Spin Master 4" figures seem more inspired, creative, and fun. I'm hoping Spin Master branches the 4" line out to the whole DC Universe, and gives us a fun, Super Powers-ish line. This McFarlane stuff is meh.

I had hopes for these but at 7" they won't fit in with Marvel Legends. I do collect 7" Movie/TV Live Action mostly due to NECA, but these sculpts are disappointing to me, this ain't near NECA quality imho. I'll stick with DCUC for now.

There are so many good figures, a solid start, I knew McFarlane DC would be a hit, but did't expect to see pre-orders sold out since the first day! Not just on BBTS but even in a big retailer like Walmart.

I also pre-ordered Wonder Woman Gold just in case. I have so many toys right now that want to be focused this new year. Have a long time looking for Justice League Animated figures, it was a big surprise to see improved representations of these characters in a bigger scale with better articulation. Even when is difficult to represent in 3D the massive upper torsos of the animated characters, McFarlane found a way. Particularly like the Green Lanterns representation, his great visor and green light cannon.

I'm also a great fan of DC armors, so will be focused in these 2 lines: Justice League Animated characters and armored characters.

It would be also great to collect characters of the Dark Universe, damn...looks like I'm going to break my new year's resolution in the first week of January!

i wonder if those wonder woman figures are movie based... Also after thinking about it hasbro also had an unappealing issue with marvel legends when they took over from toybiz in 2007, i want to say it picked up around 2012 and has be evolving since. Though that was 5 years... and mc farlane has the dc licence for 3 years. superman , nightwing, batman and the hellbat armour are appealing to me.

I think they should finish the animated line with the over 4 memebers of the justice league, just so fans can complete the team. I say this only as they are the most unappealling due to the way they look, then put on hold. Then primaliry focus on movie and comic figures.
Improve body molds within the 1st few months of 2020 and look at their competitors i.e hasbro MLs
Any game related figures can be good as they can get access to the 3d models of that game.

Ive had QC issues with SHF as well, just saying.

SideNote: I think 7" works well with 6" inches IMO.
Its just one inch no biggie, now 2" inches is diff.

It depends. Sometimes a 7inch Robin is as tall as a 6inch Batman to scale with the 7inch version.

Scale will be off, but Multiverse was a tad off from DCU before it, and 1/12 Asian imports are off from that, and 1:12 Mezco off from those, and DC Collectibles 6.75 scale is off from all that.

These will scale well with DC Collectibles 6.75 stuff, in size and somewhat style. I thinks, still need to see in hand of course.

Bottom line, no line ever scales with any other line, either on purpose or due to some magic horrible coincidence. Across companies or brands.

As with any of them, if it's done well in it's own size, it will become the one that folks want others made to fit. If it is not done well, it will fade out.

I do understand people being annoyed that they are 7 instead of 6 inch. But, then again, the sizes seem to vary widely between sub-lines. I don't have too many DC figures, but I hated that my Essentials Swamp Thing is shorter than my TV Supergirl.

That is the DC Icons Swampthing... DC essentials hasnt done a Swampthing yet to my knowledge. The one thing I will say about the DC Essentials line is that the figures have continued to improve and the latest release, Red Hood, is one of the best figures in the line. They also knocked Joker and Harley Quinn out of the park. I hope the essentials line continues. Green Lantern, Sinestro, Knightfall Batman, and Catwoman all come out next month. But after that they are releasing a bunch of DCeased re-paints.

If you are collecting the Storm Collectibles INjustice line... 7in will go perfect with their Darkseid, Lobo, and Hyper-Venom Bane figures.

Im NOT worried about scale with this line cause I think 6" and 7" go hand to hand.
now if it was 8" it would be another story UNLESS the character is real tall like a Transformer or Voltron. I collect figs from 1 inch all the way to 9 inches but thats it cause i dont like anything taller than 9 inches...the ONLY 2 tall figs that i own is Voltron (16") and a Sports fig of James Rodriguez/Soccer (12")

I preordered: Batman: Detective Comics #1000 figure, Superman: Action Comics #1000 figure, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Batman who Laughs... I am struggling with the Harley Quinn bcs from the neck down I like it... but as many have already mentioned the face looks like the animated series... I guess the character originally came out of the animated series so mb that is why they are calling it the "classic" look... but I wish they would have used a more realistic face sculpt. Ehh screw it. For $20 I'll pick up Harley Quinn too and decide if I want to keep it or send it to Goodwill once I have it in hand.

Meh. I like to pose hero toys. I’ve never had a Hasbro or Mattel figure shear off a leg or arm from simple movement. Had that happen plenty with Neca (has gotten better as of late), Diamond, and Mezco. Gladly take molded capes over broken legs.
