McFarlane 7″ Scale DC Comics Figures Revealed

McFarlane Toys Gets DC Comics License

Original Thread: McFarlane Gets DC License

Zabuza 01-02-2020 07:03 AM

In my opinion.the Superman is the best looking one.

Even then, there legs look weird. The legs could have been sculpted a bit better.

Overall.7/10

I think the DC essentials has done it the best!

firmpulse 01-02-2020 07:04 AM

Nope. Bad. Here's why:

McFarlane took iconic renditions by other artists (Lee, Cappulo etc) and 'McFarlanized" them. Bats and the others DO NOT look like their source art.
The animated figure have MASSIVE upper bodies but the comic figures look almost too skinny.
All figures have diaper crotches.
Articulation looks hindered.
They are 1/10th scale.
And why in the f&^$ would we want a small Batmobile instead of a more deluxe BAF?

So in 5 years when Hasbro gets the license maybe we'll finally get decent DC Multiverse figures. Dammit DC. Just DAMMIT

Tony_Bacala 01-02-2020 07:11 AM

I am personally ok with all this. I will need to get them in hand to judge articulation, issues with capes, execution of the paint, etc. But in promo pics, I'm good so far.

The ab cut on a lot are very pronounced, not a huge fan, but that's the method they are going with so I can roll with it for now. Looks like it got better with the later figs - Nightwing / Batgirl etc. Hopefully future figs are closer to that.

They are priced right, so as long as they are easily accessible via distribution, I'll be happy. Just want some mainline DC consistency for a while.

BWfan86 01-02-2020 07:15 AM

That Green Lantern looks pretty good- better than the recent JL animated GL figure released through the DCU service. A second head with the non bald/ goatee look seen in the first few seasons would have been nice though. That BTAS batman also looks more articulated than the DCAU BTAS figure we got a couple of years ago

Trivial Psychic 01-02-2020 07:47 AM

I almost, almost...wanted that Batgirl...but then I noticed that smushed in face that McFarlane art has been rocking since his days on Spider-Man. There's always room for improvement...but these look like a pass for me as well.

SpasticPlastic 01-02-2020 07:48 AM

I'm all in on these. My only complaint is the variant chase shite. Could do without exclusives, chases, variants, and other BS.

Cthulhu666 01-02-2020 07:48 AM

They look ok but nothing great. I will say if McFarlane does more vehicles I'll probably pick those up to go with my Mezcos

warmachine6 01-02-2020 08:03 AM

I'm going to wait for reviews before buying anything dc related, if mcfarlane releases my favorite characters then i will take a closer look. Nightwing looks good, i wont be focusing on superman or batman anytime soon thanks to mafex making the jim lee hush versions.

Riddick 01-02-2020 08:13 AM

Man, I just don't like these. I hate almost all the faces except Superman and I don't even like his much. I know they're going for a specific art depiction but the art looks awful to me. That Harley Quinn. shooo.

The joints look bad, the weird torso joint especially.

Maybe I'm becoming too picky since I started collecting Figuarts and Mafex but damn, these are just bad.

Dolemite 01-02-2020 08:18 AM

First of all Tony, I don't agree with you closing the previous thread. There were several ongoing discussions and now you've completely derailed them.

That said, I'm transplanting my post from that thread here, with a few minor alterations, since it's obviously still relevant.

None of these figures look very good if you look at them closely.

Weird, kinda ugly articulation that changes from figure to figure (there's no standard). Hideous mid-torso joints abound. The proportions are way off on most of the figures. Face sculpts mostly look bad. Sloppy paint (not uniformly, but consistently).

I mean, look at Arrowverse Green Arrow. Look at how LOOOONG his torso is compared to his legs. Dude looks like a dwarf. It's fucking hilarious.
https://news.toyark.com/wp-content/u...01/Arrow01.jpg

In regards to the terrible proportions, some people are saying that the point of the line is that McFarlane is "Look at the pictures to the side. They are adapting the comic and animated designs which is why proportions are off." Nope, not a valid point. If you look at some of the pictures and compare them to the figures in question, the designs are totally different (Harley Quinn is a perfect example...the figure and pic look NOTHING alike).
https://news.toyark.com/wp-content/u...eyQuinn_01.jpg

Plus, the line overall has no cohesive and constant aesthetics...they all look like they were just randomly designed. None of them now work together in a display, unlike Marvel Legends.

Everything is generic looking, except maybe the armored Batman & Superman figures, which look cool, but it's strange to use them to kick off your new DC line. Makes more sense to start with the basics.

And again, the articulation is ugly, for the most part, and if most of McFarlane's output is to be used as an example, most of it won't work correctly.

Glad I'm not a DC guy. I'll stick with Hasbro & Marvel Legends, thanks.

Dr Kain 01-02-2020 08:51 AM

I guess since this is a new thread, I might as well repeat myself.

I'm so glad MacFarlane is going for such a rich and diverse cast such as Batman, Batman, Batman, Batman, Batman, Superman, Superman, Batman, oh, and then an animated Justice League character and CW Green Arrow.

I can't wait until they give us a proper comic Flash in 2030 and maybe one Rogue by 2040.

For the look of the figures themselves, the ankle and wrist joints look really weird to me. Maybe they'll look better in person, but right now they seem excessively round.

Sorry dude, not the intent. I welcome everyone to continue here tho, not trying to quash any talk about this. Big threads get messy, and there is a year of speculation talk before any real discussion about actual figs begins. Since we will probably be talking about this for the next three years, idea was to start clean about just the actual figs.

Comedian 01-02-2020 09:02 AM

I actually feel better about these with the official pics. I have concerns, but this looks like a fun line. I need reviews of these and of course my own in hand feelings. But for the love of god, please get all the Batman films in one scale. Please....someone.

All good points! I get putting a Superman and Batman in the first wave to entice new collectors, but four Batman and three Supermen??? It should've been 1 of each, then the Harley with a better, non Funko POP-looking head, Nightwing, Batgirl, and maybe an obscure character or two that Mattel/ DC Direct never got around to making or did poorly to get seasoned collectors to buy into the line. As it is, this is a really sad showing.

(Side note, what the hell is a Bat-Raptor? It looks like those 3-wheeler motorcycles people cruise around downtown Seminole in, is it from any comic?)

Tony_Bacala 01-02-2020 09:08 AM

As for the negative dings - I ain't arguing. Not perfect. I'm less concerned with proportions, it isn't bothering me like Essentials did.

The Arrow is weak in the face, and yes does look a tad long in torso. So I already wrote that off due to face and lack of torso cut and was moving on already :).

The faces seem to be "inspired by" the reference art, even if not fully replicating it. Which is funny, because I thought that Batman 1000 was odd just as art, wouldn't have been my first choice.

The Animated - they look ok, depends on in-hand execution on whether they are worth upgrading from DC Collectibles. That being said, after a couple core guys I don't really have any interest in them, just not personally huge on Animated stuff.

But, for wave 1, getting a footing, I'm happy with whats there so far. I'd like some diversity and refinement on sculpt/paint, which I think we will get over time.

Right now, production level in-hand review is key for me. These look like hand painted protos and are under harsh light.

Awkward Silent 01-02-2020 09:39 AM

Not all of them look great, and they definitely need to iron out some kinks - but that Superman looks really freaking solid, and I NEED that Batman Who Laughs. If they scale well with my Essentials, this'd be perfect.

RamenRider 01-02-2020 09:43 AM

Yeah these are all awful looking IMO.

Some of the Spin Master stuff looks better than this...

Colossus Prime 01-02-2020 09:46 AM

Personally I am not a fan of the varying aesthetics in the comic versions. Granted they're not so wildly different you can't believe they're from the same company, just my OCD mind.

And I just can't stop seeing that even for their official production photos they couldn't get straight batons for Nightwing.

OriginalFire 01-02-2020 10:03 AM

These look pretty good. I am happy with most of them

OriginalFire 01-02-2020 10:04 AM

What is the Batman chase? There is no picture of it

Awkward Silent 01-02-2020 10:07 AM

As for the Bat-Raptor, it's in at least issue #1 of The Batman Who Laughs - strange choice for a vehicle, but it looks accurate!

DarkEyes 01-02-2020 10:10 AM

Give me, give me, give me! take my money!

I was waiting for this for a long time, since it was announced that McFarlane got the license.

Prordered ALL the Justice League Animated characters, love to see the other characters in futures waves. Also preordered Armored Batman Hellbat and Armored Superman Unchained!

OriginalFire 01-02-2020 10:11 AM

Also, this website is really bad for complaining. Yes I know what I just wrote, but the first thing to pop into my mind on this thread was that I'm gonna be reading all the negative comments. So much negative stuff right away. Don't know what it is. Some might call it passion and sometimes it's the same people

Enzo52 01-02-2020 10:31 AM

Those animated figures look okay at best tho I will still pick them up still is unfortunate that this is 7 inch scale
