This won’t change just because updated molds of these characters are out. That's how I view it at least.

Personally I would cherry pick my favorite Lost Tribe members which I like enough to buy again and implement them into other displays while keeping the original collection intact.

You basically already have the right attitude, this is a chance for people who weren’t around when these first came out to get them, nothing else. Just ditch the feeling that the figures you already have are becoming any less valuable as representations of these characters.

If anything you should feel proud that you own a complete OG Lost Tribe set.
Great post.

These newer figures don't hinder your originals, and all that hard work that went into. In fact, I usually see original figures (especially when the newer versions are fundamentally different) go up in value and desire.

So it's a win-win!

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen...I was apprehensive to even post those thoughts because I was sure they were going to be perceived the wrong way (in a "OH NOEZ...NECA RUINED MY CHILDHOODZ nyarhf nyarhf...") when it was merely just some vented frustrations about having years of work being invalidated, especially for a group of figures that outside of simply being made available again, I felt didn't really need an update. I appreciate that you took the time to actually read the post and see where I was coming from.

Of course, I understand updates and upgrades are a part of the collecting game these days. Buy a tiger stripe Wolverine figure now, but Hasbro will release another in a few months with more heads and accessories. Collect a wave to build a figure,...only to see it re-released in a two pack later down the road with an exclusive figure you can't get otherwise (I'm seeing a trend here Hasbro...) Buy a figure when it releases, only to see a company re-release the same exact figure 4 or 5 years later...only this time, with a digitally printed headsculpt (NECA...you're guilty of this now too...) It's something I knew they would eventually do with the Lost Tribe, although secretly, I hoped that day would never come...not because I didn't want others to share into the fun, but more because I didn't want to feel like I was being taken again for a sucker by another company re-releasing an older figure with some minor changes.

That said...I am glad that these are being put out there for those who missed them, and while I'll probably won't be grabbing all the newer versions unless there are some significant improvements OUTSIDE the expanded articulation, there are a few I know I will be more prone to picking up (such as Snake, Boar, and Rhino) I know others gripe about it, but I feel the articulation on the original Lost Tribe is just fine...I don't need my Predators to be able to stand on their hands while throwing kung fu kicks and moonsaults.

With as well done and chock full of accessories the AVP movie line was, they practically were Ultimate figures, especially when you consider the accessories and armor pieces were largely interchangeable throughout the entire line. Those are something we definitely should be able to move on from.

I have a feeling we will see Harrigan as an SDCC exclusive this year, like Hawkins and Dutch were in previous years. NECA has frequently used convention exclusives to get around tricky licensing and likeness rights, so it wouldn't surprise me if this happens again.

NECA has already said no to these since each figure was so loaded on accessories and already featured the upgraded amounts of articulation.

I feel like neca says no a lot. Then it happens.

I honestly assumed I’d be destined to just have my broken glued lost tribe. I never though neca would do ultimates. Me elder predator is glued in the “ giving the gun away pose”. Didnt neca release a second version of him already?

Four versions of him if you count the AVP and Golden Angel versions of him.

I'm sure down the line they could re-release Scar as an ultimate but given that we're already looking at a full assortment of redos with the Lost tribe it would be frustrating to have space taken by a straight re-release instead of new figures like Wolf or the Super Predators.

Yes the have already redone Greyback once. The original came out in series 3 when they still had the V-cut hip articulation and then the second was in series 12 when they had switched over to the ball-hinge hips and double-hinge knees. The series 12 version also features some sculpt tweaks like actually giving his plasma caster its unique laser mount. At this point even the updated v2 release is almost 6 years old so it's been awhile since he was available, obviously not counting Golden Angel since that's not how the character looked in the movie.

I'm aware...but since the packaging said Elder on it...I just threw him in there because he's guilty of name association.

I have series 3. In should have jumped on series 12. The series 3 version is a literal statue.

On the issue of someone investing in the originals. I’ll tell you what ,if you have them with out breakage issues, then you have the weight of gold. There is always something fun and nostalgic about having the originals. When I was young I always upgraded. Never did I keep first versions. Now I’ve learned. I wish I had my original mcfarlane kiss set. I sold it to buy psycho circus, then sold them to buy the perfect figures of them. When I have people over to see my collection, the nostalgic pieces are always the most hovered over. I love my neca Tim burton Batman, and I will love that mezco version. But the one I played with as a kid was toybiz. That display is my favorite, and always will be.

To say I've been blessed would be an understatement. The ones that are removed from the packaging in my home have undergone extensive heat treatments to get things unstuck, and thankfully, nearly all of them survived. Out of 60 or 70 Yautja figures I have, I've only had breakage issues with 3 or 4 of them on the figures themselves, and all but one were easily fixable with the majority of the issues being with the wristblades. (The wristblades are actually quite easy to fix once you figure out how they are set in the gauntlet, though...you'll need take a set from another figure in order to do so.)

The things that break the most (and I hope NECA sees this somehow, because this has needed to be fixed for years...) are the spears. They need to be constructed better, and preferably out of a softer, more durable plastic. I'll gladly take a floppy spear that I need to reheat every now and again to make it straight, over a super thin piece of hardened plastic that breaks the first time you try to place it inside a figure's hand. Of course, half the time, the spears themselves aren't assembled or glued correctly to begin with, meaning your stuck with a crooked, fragile spear that no amount of heat can straighten out anyways. I'm looking at that sniper rifle that the prototype Scout is being pictured with, and I find myself cringing, because I know I'm more than likely never going to be able to stick that beautiful weapon into his hands without tempting fate.

I could also could do without those hoses on the armor. I've actually cut them off on purpose on one or two of my older Jungle Hunters because they're simply a nuisance to the articulation. I get that they are there for accuracy, but surely there has to be a better way of doing them. Hasbro and Mafex found ways to do it with their various Mandalorian figures over the years, so it might be something as simple as copying and pasting from the work of others.

The Elder has been done twice already, however, he was done a second time to match the articulation standard of the rest of his Tribe. The first one had single jointed knees swivel cuts on the upper thigh and a swivel cut groin. His looked aweful when you tried to do anything with the legs. The City Hunter introduced the now standard hip/leg joints and double jointed knees which carried over to the entire tribe including the V2 Elder.

The newer Predators now have double jointed elbows, their guantlet/computer opens and the have torso articulation. Hopefully they go so far as to include these additional features. They should do as both the City and Jungle hunter bodies have been updated to this standard and the lost tribe use them. That said, it appears that the scouts has the torso and the guantlet but can't really tell if the arms are now double jointed.

I personally paid $100 for my scout. Was the last of the tribe to get and had alot of trouble getting him. The first two i received were fakes the third however was perfect and very well painted. Despite this i'm not too worried about a re-release as i've got to enjoy them for the past three years. As they're slowly replaced my older tribe will be demoted to the lower shelves.

Interestingly enough for me, the one figure I wanted most is the second to be confirmed, so I am more than happy. I hope everyone get's the Lost Pred, (and beyond) Ultimate figure they desire, too.

Im looking forwards to getting the lost tribe. Hopefully the battle armor lost can remove his gear like the backpack waist armor etc to be like his movie appearance. Interesting fact many of the lost preds In that final scene were played by the la lakers at the time the movie was being made,

I really like how NECA added the light up feature without significantly raising the price of the figure.

I hope Lost Predator comes with a left gripping hand. All the photos show him holding the sword with his right hand even though his sheath is on his left shoulder. There are two pictures with him holding it with both hands, but I can't tell if he's actually holding it or if they are fudging it. Neca did this with Golden Angel (right sheath but no right gripping hand) and it's really irritating. I mean, all the Preds use the same hands. How hard is it to match the hands with the accessories?

So I'm not the only one who noticed that!

I don’t think the extra left hand is for gripping - it's in the correct shape but the fingers aren't closed exactly like they are on the right one, so it's just seems like it loosely wraps around the blade. Maybe it's for holding the shuriken?

that ultimate scout predator is one ugly motherf*cker! He'll look great with my collection. but that is an interesting choice of mandibles though.

At first I was a little disappointed because the sketch they included with the figure's original reveal was just an angry typical predator but I quickly came around. I'm really digging what they came up with for his mug, if one were attempting to guess the in-lore reasoning behind his look I'd say it could be the equivalent of a unique racial trait or a genetic abnormality. It adds a little bit of diversity to the predators we already know.

Okay, headcanon time for the Lost Predator since he will probably never be seen in action so let’s make cool shit up ourselves.

- He doesn’t take off his bio mask, it opens and closes all nice and tech-y like. Not flip-open Iron Man, not nanomachines Iron Man either, more like – Samurai guy from the upcoming Guilty Gear.

- His vision inside the mask is different from the regular Predator. The first Battle Armor Lost Predator mask had a compound eye design, so I imagine he sees in honeycomb vision and can zoom into each comb individually. Or more than one simultaneously.

- This factors into his Plasmacaster: It doesn’t fire explosive bolts like most others, instead it rapid-fires very thin beams. Not like a machine gun, more like – he targets multiple spots for taking out more than one prey or he can target multiple weak points on a bigger enemy. Think stuff like auto-lock weapons from ego-shooter games. The Plasmacaster then fires multiple beams in short succession after targeting is finished. These beams don’t explode on impact, they simply pierce the target. Lethal enough for organic matter, but vital for hunting Lost’s main prey: Mechanical life forms. Robots potentially protect themselves against energy-based attacks so multiple blasts are necessary to weaken their own energy-based shields or to pierce through critical weaknesses. Now imagine the classic anime trope were a small beam goes through a robot, the robot stands there seemingly unharmed for a few seconds and then blows up anyways. That’s what happens.

- The sword isn’t energy-based, but instead heats up and glows red when fully charged. I imagine he grips the handle on his sword with each finger in succession (much like how classic Predators slowly place each finger after one another on their masks before lifting them) and once he fully grips it, it starts glowing. The eyes on the mask start glowing simultaneously.

- Also, imagine him slicing through a mech like the Power Loader from top to bottom right through the middle, with a pilot inside of course.

- The vents on his chest armor. They have to be for something. So, I think Lost integrated lots of technology he took from his robotic victims inside his own suit. So he too has an energy shield (think Master Chief, covers the whole body) but it isn’t quite perfected yet and can only withstand either a few single blasts or a big one before overloading. The armor then has to forcefully eject excess heat so the vents each spit out a burst of steam. Because machinery overloading and pumping out steam is awesome.

- His shuriken is remote controlled like a drone; it never stops flying until he calls it back. Also, EMP-qualities for the really big enemies, were surviving is more important than frying your own gear.

...

Yes I had way too much time, yes I was bored. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
