In Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force the team (really just Phantomex) kills the reborn Apocalypse even though he is just a child because they're fairly certain he'll grow up to be a genocidal monster and this leads to all kinds of crazy fallout both literal and emotional. Civil War II, which I think is a dumb idea overall, will have the similar dilemma proposed: is it fit to punish someone for crimes they have yet to commit?
Quote:
Specifically the 'Days of Preemptive Future' story from Remender's Uncanny X-Force, which acts as a culmination of the whole series' discourse. Essentially it's the whole notion of profiling and arresting individuals based on who could commit a crime, linking directly to post-9/11 paranoia and the US Patriot Act. The series is a fantastic read, if people have given a thought to picking it up!
Now we skip forward a few years, and apparently Bendis is rehashing both this storyline and that of police brutality based on prejudice, which he's already covered, both in Scarlet and not two years ago in Uncanny X-Men. Seems like Marvel's just taking everything from the X-Men and reusing it in the wider universe. |

Yeah it is! Philip K. Dick invented precrime, so Remender's story owes almost everything to The Minority Report and The Man in The High Castle.
Anywho, on a related note, what waves are everyone predicting for Toy Fair? Last year there were three: Avengers, Spider-Man, and Ant-Man. This year it's all but confirmed that they'll show a new Spider-Man wave, and the X-Men one. I've heard talks of a Hulk wave? There's also the rumoured Doctor Strange wave, but since Hasbro are releasing more MLs this year than any other, can we expect four waves? Five?! |

I mean really what use was the ring of pouches around the thigh on every superhero? I love the Knightfall Batman suit Jean-Paul wore but the thigh pouches (to me anyway) seemed so unnecessary. Same with Jim Lee's Cyclops uniform. Don't get me wrong Jim Lee's Cyclops is my 2nd favorite of all time after the Whedon/Cassidy uniform but so...many...pouches. |

So my Speed Demon has a bit of a problem...
![]() When I opened the figure, something about his armpit joint felt off to me and it took me a while to realize that the armpit joint was misaligned. I tried to sort of finagle it back into its proper position, but just now it came out on me. It seems it can be fixed simply by fitting the peg into the hole on the inside, only issue with that is the peg is much bigger than the hole. I'm wondering how I can fix this without having to buy an entirely new figure. Maybe a light sanding of th peg then soak in hot water and work it back in?

I guess my final guess would be SM wave 2, X-Men, Hulk wave and CA: CW wave 2 if there is one. Dr. Strange if there is not another CA wave, maybe. GOTG2 seems a little early even for slides but you never know. Best case scenario for me would be that the X-Men rumor is somehat wrong and we see confirmation of Polaris figure (duh) and we would get some kind of early proto/slideleak for an Enchantress figure, though on that second I expect we will see that for Toy Fair for a Thor wave next year. No that was genuine. I loved comics growing up in the 90s. Nowadays though unless it's some sort of stand-alone/one-shot type of thing or an elseworld story I don't even really bother with them anymore. The excessive pouches and phrase "ultra violence" just always stuck with me.

As for the thigh pouches and what not, i believe that was a Rob Liefeld thing. he came up with it, and soon others all followed. The Knightfall storyline was also my favorite as well. i'm currently working on reading the digtal TPB while i have downtime at work. i miss that sam keith, kelly jones, todd mcfarlane, jim lee art big time, those were the days. As for Today's comic artists and art work, It took me a little bit to get used to Humberto Ramos spider-man art and greg capullo batman. however J Scott Campbell, Tony Daniel and a few others i quickly warmed up to. I think they mentioned at one of the Cons last year that they are doing a Thor wave that would have one or two female characters. But we'll probably see stuff for Civil War, X-Men, Dr. Strange and Spiderman. Hopefully the Spidey wave it will be a brand new one and not the Absorbing Man wave. The Spidey waves have been the best!

I don't recall wolverine ever being thrown all over the place like they do with deadpool... he reached a certain popularity but never to the ranks of spidey. DP is currently like DC's harley quinn. While they are not out doing their headliners, they are just always in spotlight at this moment.

Not sure how if you read comics in the 90s. There was even an old flash animation about how ridiculous it was with Cyclops setting up all the X teams and Wolverine having to run back and forth because he was on EVERY X team. In the 2000s they even added him to other teams such as The Avengers. That being said, I would never say he hit Spidey's overall popularity.
And of course who can forget the staple of the 90s? Women with breasts twice as large as their head while wearing itty bitty tini bikinis. ![]() |

Thank the gods I only paid $15 for this because this is not worth anything beyond that.
![]() The Ugly - This Hulk is just butt ass ugly. The buzz cut does not suit him one bit and the arms are warped from the packaging. The Disappointment - I was so looking forward to this version of Vision and he sucks. The joints, especially the ab crunch, are loose as hell. He has a jewel shaped cut in the paint next to his jewel, the white paint looks like it was just randomly sprayed on, and he just screams "cheaply made." Oh, and what is up with the fists? Why doesn't he have the open hand the packaging shows him with? The Body - The Ultron body goes great with Silvermane's head, but as an Ultron toy, it kind of sucks. He is just way too small to be Ultron as if he was one of his drone soldiers or something. Oh, and the horn thing on his head is also warped from the packaging. Overall, I feel bad for those that paid $50 for this thing. I didn't care about the Hulk figure at all to begin with, but I actually wanted it for Vision most of all despite the Ultron being good for Silvermane.

Anywho another topic. has anyone seen Spider-man 2099 in his new costume? while im starting to dig it kind of im not 100% crazy about it. the reason im bringing it up is because i would love for them to bring up a legend of him in his new costume. i know this new one probably isn't permanent but it's still cool. |

I like the new one. I think it may actually be close enough to the old one that it might be a repaint at some point if I come up with an extra Spidey 2099.

That is ugly. Why did they feel the need to change what wasn't broken?

I think the new 2099 suit has one problem for me, the white. If the suit was all black with the red elements in place I think it would look good, but that might be to close to Miles Morales for people. And the forearm pieces are like blade weapons now. I LOVE the classic 2099 "Day of the Dead" costume, so it is really hard to see a new one on him. My big issue with the new comic is that I want him to get the hell back to 2099!!! I am kinda tired of him being stranded in the present. I was hoping that after the relaunch he would get home, but nothing yet.

I am loving the new Spider-Man 2099 book right now, but the costume isn't my favorite. Functionally, it's like the Batman Beyond costume. It allows him to fly/glide and I think it has some kind of camouflage built in. As I said, it's Batman Beyond's costume. But, I do like the story, give it chance on that if nothing else. I would predict they end up putting him in the original suit and maybe even returning to 2099.

the new costume isn't bad but i also prefer his original costume as well...
I don't mind him in present day, however we have quite a few spider-men in the 616 universe now. |
