Noticed a thread from someone else and wanted to address a similar issue.
I have the box checked to receive messages when private messages are sent to me but I have not received any of these on my AOL account since there have been some forum changes with this new point system. I also do not believe that I receive notifications of new postings on my threads.
The AOL server is not blocking the Toyark emails and the emails are not being sent to the spam folder.

AOL is blocking our emails at the server level for auto generated emails. Some companies do that and there is nothing we can do.

Why was it not doing this before? AOL has never blocked any of my other emails and at worst, the emails would go to the SPAM folder. Solrac333 had MSN and he had the same problem. At the same time you asked him if he happened to have Gmail. So are you saying that AOL, MSN and Gmail are all blocking Toyark emails at their servers......I find that quite hard to believe.

Not all emails, just auto generated ones. We switched the way the server was sending emails for Toyark to attempt to get some of the service providers to not block them at the server level. It's worked for some cases but not for others.

Wouldn't you be able to do internal testing to see which email services receive Toyark emails and then tweak it from there?

We don't get a message that says blocked or anything. It just gets blocked.

Not about getting messages. Create accounts on each email domain to see which emails do not arrive at those above said domains to narrow it down and then tweak your server to see what changes affect which email domain.

I receive notifications from TFW and Hisstank but have since stopped receiving all notifications from Toyark since these changes on here.

No offense, but we aren't going to create email accounts and then forum accounts for every email domain to test and see if they go through. That's a completely unrealistic expectation. The same problem occurs across all of our sites. But those sites all use the same delivery method, so the domains that block us are the same across the board. We may make tweaks in the future to try new ways of sending out notifications, but it likely won't be for awhile. And it will probably be to just go back to the old way, which will simply block those that are now receiving emails.

That's ok, I know you like to personally disregard everything that I have to say to you. I didnt know that troubleshooting an issue is an unrealistic expectation for a problem that I would think affects multiple forums.
You can close this thread out if you'd like as once again I get nowhere with you.

Well, there's no need to troubleshoot an issue when we know exactly what the issue is. Some email providers block auto-generated emails from our servers. With this method some sites are blocked, with the regular delivery system other sites are blocked. It's been happening since, roughly, 2003.

We tried a long shot idea to get around it, and while it worked for some domains, other domains wound up blocking it. Right now, our only options are to leave it as is or switch back to the old way. Some people aren't going to get emails. It's just the way it is.

You'll be happy to know the big boss man made a new tweak to help alleviate this problem. Hope it helps.

It's working now, it seemed as though you were going to ignore the problem and not troubleshoot the issue at all in your answers. It would have been nice to hear i'll look into it instead of hearing that's just the way it is.

I wasn't ignoring the problems. We are and were aware that some of the email servers block our outgoing auto generated emails. I only relayed the info we had at the time and what could be done. The owner of the site made a change that may or may not help in the long run. I'm glad it alleviated the issue with AOL, who has been a notorious thorn in our side for years.

If it stops working again, let us know. That will help us know if this change is good for the long run, or if it's only a short term fix. I'm hoping for the former.
