Adding Peg Holes to Feet.
Looking for some advice on adding peg holes to the feet of some 3 3/4" figures. My initial thought was to just take a drill with a small bit to the feet, but figured I'd ask around before I went around effing up my figures. LOL
For the record, I want to add peg holes to the 3 3/4" Mortal Kombat figures from Jazewares so that they can be placed on some of the figure stands from SmallJoes.com. They seem to use a rather rubbery plastic so I'm not sure if melting would be an issue and also not sure what size bit to use to get holes that will be snug but not too tight. I have some other figures from various lines that I'd like to do this too also, but these are the ones I wanna start with. |
Never done this before, but if it's hard plastic or soft if you had a piece of metal you could heat up enough that was the size of the peg you could just ease the foot down on it and then pull it out after it was deep enough.
It would have to be very hot. |
Got some good advice on HissTank, and thought I'd share it over here. I did a Google search on how to do this before I posted and didn't come up with anything, so I hope this is able to help someone else out in the future.
I'm not sure what size drill bit I used, because I snagged it from work, but I just used a Cobra BAT that I had in my bookbag (yea, I'm that dork) to check for a tight fit against the non-grooved side of the drill bit. Got home from work, debated about trying it a bit, then decided "eff it", and gave it a shot. I found a good spot on the foot that would leave enough plastic around the peg so as not to crack when I put it on the stand, and used my fingers to twist the drill bit into the foot. Even though it's on the underside of the foot, I was a bit worried about them looking "sloppy", but they turned out very nicely. If it wasn't for the slight difference in color, they almost look like they came from the factory this way. A BIG thanks to arch2b on HissTank for the idea of twisting it by hand, I most definitely would have used a drill, and probably drilled all the way through the foot.
