VC93 Darth Vader So Close Yet So Far Far Away
So today I unexpectedly stumbled across VC93 Darth Vader, the DARTH VADER FIGURE WHICH HASBRO FINALLY GAVE FULLY POSEABLE ALMOST BALL JOINT LIKE HIP JOINTS!
Hasbro, in an attempt to not "break the sculpt", didn't give this figure hinged wrists. We have wrist swivels, but NO hinges. Any jedi/sith saber-wielder, ESPECIALLY in the vintage collection line, ought to have hinged wrists! Why is Death Star II battle VC Luke so bad ass? Not only does he have the fully poseable legs he's also got those hinged wrists! So this Vader figure is one aspect short of being quite possibly the greatest small scale Darth Vader figure of all time! A hinged neck would have been cool too so I could pose him looking down on his underlings condescendingly. Nonetheless, good figure worth picking up, but man..those wrists... |
I'm probably passing on this one. I have enough Vaders and a very specific idea of my "perfect" vader that will probably never get made :P
He looks nice though. |
I dont feel Vader needs all kinds of crazy articulation being he was not very "articulated" in any of the films, most if not all of the time he just countered lukes lightsaber swings, articulation here proves its a matter of opinion being most want to display the figure in screne accurate poses and this figure delivers far and above what you would need for that, great figure but the 08 legacy collection Vader takes the cake imo.

It's 2012, every figure ever made should have full articulation. Only 2 reasons they don't. Cheap & Lazy!

If they can make the hinged wrist not look so bulky, that would be awesome. Overall, I am still very happy with this figure.

Didn't Vader pretty much one hand his lightsaber most of the time anyway?
|
I like the first VC Vader better than this new one and it has less articulation.
|
If anyone here spots this Vader while "hunting", they should snag one for me. :)
I love the new Darth Maul with MU style hips and I've been waiting for this Vader to go up against him for awhile now... |

From a sentimental standpoint I was glad to see the old school Darth Vader picture being used for the cardback art once again. The background is dark with minimal lighting and portrays the lightsaber blade in motion rather nicely. It took me back to 1977 when my father bought me the original figure for $2.00 and I had a chance to see what he looked like for the first time. The later artwork from the ROTJ line back in 1983 that portrayed Lord Vader pointing his finger just never looked appealing to me. It was too light in the background and it just didn't have that level of menace that the original cardback picture had. |
