Matty's high shipping and tax charges

Does anyone else feel they are getting overcharged on shipping by Matty collector? This month their "$20.00", is going to cost me $31.20 after shipping an taxes. Shipping is $8.70, which is high, but then they are charging $2.50 for tax, WTF. What state charges 10.25% for tax? Next year when their prices go up to $25.00, who knows what the final price will be for a figure. It might be cheaper to buy them on Ebay after the day of sale, than on Matty collector's website. Something just doesnt add up here, if you agree please leave your thoughts.

I've never been charged any taxes from Matty. I had 2 normal MOTUC figs & 2 over sized MOTUC figs shipped in one order, UPS ground for $15. Seems fair to me.

I think the tax amount and if your charged it depends on which state your in.
I was charged tax from Hasbro but it was the 6% Michigan tax. That's a lot better then your 10.25%! Never heard it being that high.

I live Michigan and I don't get charged a sales tax unless I purchase something located in state.

You're usually supposed to declare out of state purchases on your state tax return.

There are 4 states where the total tax would be 10% or higher based on state and local taxes. Alabama, Arizona, Illinois and Missouri. Do you live in one of those states?

hrothgars 07-14-2012 10:18 AM

Sales taxes are collected by the seller within any buyer's state in which that seller has a physical brick & mortar presence (store, warehouse, offices, etc.).

If there is no presence, the seller is not obligated to collect sales tax, though they may do so long as they forward these revenue's to the appropriate state.

As tlasjr said, most states do in fact require buyers within their state to pay sales tax on their annual tax return for any purchases for which sales taxes were not collected by the seller.

LMAO, who does that? I've never even seen that asked on 1099EZ forms. Even so, I'm not going to keep track of every purchase I make and where the item was located when I purchased it. I'm pretty sure it's up to the retailer. If I buy from a corp like Wal-Mart, TRU, etc. They always charge taxes and the item never ships from MI. Imagine ebay if you had to pay taxes on every purchase.

I live in Florida and also get charged a ridiculous sales tax, and it gets applied after shipping cost.

gonna have to debate those john constantine and rorschach figures. but really, on top of the premium price, not even sure i'll be able to grab em on the day.

obviously each state is different but MA gives you a choice of choosing their estimated amount or putting it in yoursellf. You can put 0 but greatly increases your audit chaces.
I wonder if Matty has shipping facilities in certain states or does everyone get taxed?

DHeezy81 07-14-2012 11:19 AM

Yea I just called my pops and asked him and he said it's there. I've never noticed or filled it out and I've never been audited. There's nobody out there keeping track of all your online transactions. I wouldn't even worry about it unless it was a firearm or vehicle or something major that needs to be registered with the state. Gov takes too damn much as it is. I'm not going to willingly let them nickle & dime me to the last drop lol.
