Would you open The Avenger's Black Widow?

So I finally got the new pack sent from HTS and it's in good shape this time and has Black Widow! :D But I can't decide if I should open it. Normally I open my figures to display them except for rare ones (Thor movie series Laufey, Sif, Heimdall, King Loki and Tron: Legacy Castor) but this is not as rare. It's still rare, but can be found. So should I open it?

BigHanksCustoms 07-19-2012 07:52 PM

Open them all.......join me and you will know the power of the dark side.

We are going to murder you in your sleep and take your stuff.

lol jk......................maybe

But on topic we got black widow and opened her without a second thought.

Tiberius 07-19-2012 08:12 PM

Yes

DogFashionDisco 07-19-2012 08:14 PM

Open it, then immediately burn the figure and packaging. Make sure to film the whole thing, and laugh maniacally during the process.

Try mortal and suffer my wrath! ;)
So even though it's a rare figure you would just go open it?
I was thinking of getting a loose one from a eBay seller in China. For both Hawkeye and Black Widow it's about $22 shipped. Is it worth doing that to have both loose and MOC?

Yeah, just to annoy the people who can't find that figure. :D

Hey, that strategy worked for the Joker in The Dark Knight. Well, sort of.

That's cool! Like the silver wrist stingers you did.
So what are your thoughts on the main question besides you having opened 2 of yours? And how did you ever get 2 loose Black Widow figures? :NoWay

vampireheart 07-19-2012 09:40 PM

open 'em! You waited this long to get them, set em up in cool poses and enjoy them :)

behindthemask 07-19-2012 09:53 PM

I have 1 in route to me, and asked for it to be loose, partly so I wouldn't have to ask myself this question. I primarily open items minus CC and super rare, but even the rare I would open if the packaging allowed it to be. ie Hot toys.

Jason Abbadon 07-19-2012 10:25 PM

ALWAYS open your stuff! Consider that what we consider super-rare may turn out to have no lasting monetary value: some of my friends were huge Batman Animated Series collectors in the 90's...now they're worth squat as a rule.
Same with the HUGE Star Trek TNG collection my sister now has in her garage.
If you want to do it, open her up and appreceate her for her intended use, I say.

It's a geographical thing- I've seen her at retail three times now- buying two (I ws broke one time).
Tell ya what, I should see another at the store I hit on monday- they restock sunday night, and assuming they put out an avengers case, I'll get you one for retail and shipping.

I used one of mine for a FANTASTIC (and super easy) custom that will make all of you crap your pants and drool. You'll want a BW fig just to make the custom, I tella ya!

Allright, I'll tell ya, since you all threatened me if I did not- I removed the stingers and gun belt, painted her hands and neck area blue, swapped Mystique's head on there and added the skulls from Mystique's skirt onto her belt (covering that BW buckle). Then it was just a matter of painting over the SHIELD patches, adding a boatload of weapons and viola!...I may still swap the lower legs with a ROC Baroness' for the killer high heels. Either way, she looks awesome and it took no time to do.

The scarjo head is on a ROC Helix body waiting repaint into...Silver Sable!
Or possibly I'll sacrifice the other BW for that as well....

Well for some figures like Tron: Legacy Castor are worth up to $2,000. I would only open that one if it was worth nothing, until then that one will be in its package. But since that's the only figure like that I have they are mostly opened.

Thanks for the offer too. Sounds good. So what is the retail price? And since you wouldn't want to buy one to find I don't want it I will PM you my zip code for an estimated shipping price.

????? I don't know about that....rare yes but not 2 G's rare
I thought the same for some Avatar figures I found...spotted them once, didn't even know they were produced so I got them all, sure at the time while the movie was still HOT I should have sold them, now they are rare but only in the $40-50 range...in time who knows...its all a crap shoot really.
Which is why I'm getting out of the MOC game, I'll only keep a few rare/special figs MOC for my collection, the rest I will be selling. It takes up wayyyy too much space, sad to see this day come...I read other collectors talking about how they just have to sell their stuff due to space or financial situations, I always said...NOT ME...but screw that I want my space back! opened figs I'm keeping on display for as long as they keep my interest

as for black widow...i still have yet to find her, but once I do...she will be opened and displayed with the rest

I say you open her up!

vampireheart 07-20-2012 12:07 AM

Opening is the only way i roll :)

I buy doubles on the ones I don't want to open. xD

That way I can always open one to keep, and one to let go up in value.

True. Usually toys are only worth money when they are brand new and everyone is going apeshit trying to get them all. But that Castor figure from Tron Legacy is indeed that rare. Super rare in fact. I think only a few hundred were produced before they were cancelled and even then they were never actually released to market. The majority of them were destroyed, but some did find their way into people's hands.

Wow, people have heard of the figures! :D I got mine on eBay for just under $400. I know, it was a great deal and and so cheap it's hard to think its true. I guess when a listing ends late Sunday night you have a good chance to not be outbid. I did.

Sure, opening them for space is a good idea, but never selling them! This is how I think: If you never had them you couldn't have sold them and when they are gone you have nothing to sell. So pretend you don't have them and go along like you would if you didn't buy them in the first place. Makes sense? :p

LUCKYDUBE 07-20-2012 03:36 AM

There is a auction on the bay right now for a Tron Castor figure, starting bid is at $300 with free shipping, 0 bids and 3 days left. I really dont think its worth more then it cost to get at the store, definitely not worth no $2000 G's. You can get a Flagg for $1000 in tip top shape.
The figure is rare because no one cared about the line thus the cancellation. I can find Tron figures at most Ross stores till this day.

I could see if the line was selling like hot cakes but it wasn't it was clearance peg warming hard! so if no one was buying then what make you think they would ever buy again? I could be wrong as I know some collector go after rare stuff. I just dont see a lot of buyers for this.

trekking95 07-20-2012 03:41 AM

They canceled this figure due to likeness issues. Look at the figure's face then look at the movie picture. Both the skin and hair color is wrong.

Figure will do 1 of 3 things in time,... 1 go up in value, 2 drop in value, 3 stay the same. Tron is a small market and collectors are limited, especially 10-20 yrs from now. Honestly if I were you.... I'd get that figure graded, spend the extra $40-50 and have it MOC behind plastic and graded and could make that thing worth $10,000. I seen a MOC 9.8/10 ML Deadpool sell for $1000+.
