My fellow Arkanoids...
...Arkadians? Arkers? That'll do. First time making a thread, so if I've done something stupid please point it out to me. I've been dabbling in customising figures for a little while now, but never really committed (I'd do something about my apathy if I could be bothered) until I stumbled upon the Ark. Now I think it's about time I shared them with others. I try to make figures that I doubt will get made. Usually villains, they're so much more fun. True story: I started making a Shocker. He was sighted in Canada. Nearly finished Kraven. The awesome one was revealed at SDCC last year. Mysterio? SDCC this year. So if Hasbro is reading I will be making SONGBIRD, SQUIRREL GIRL & SPIDER-GIRL (May Parker) next. Anyways here they are: Blizzard - Silver Surfer with sculpted costume Classic Ghost - Moon Knight with Taskmaster head and sculpted costume. Cape thingy is an old hankerchief (yes it was clean) Satanna - Black Widow body, ROC Baroness head and boots, heavily modded Dr Strange cape Tarantula - Scarlet Spider body with Iron Fist head and sharpied on the costume design (still needs boot spikes, but I'm having trouble finding anything suitable, any suggestions?) Skrull queen Veranke - Spider-Woman with sculpted chin Jack O'Lantern - ROC Doctor body, sculpted costume, Spider-Man line Hobgoblin cape, MU Hobgoblin manbag, Snake Eyes head (heavily sculpted) and flames from a busted Neca God Of War flaming chain weapon I'd love to get feedback to help me improve, and feel free to use the recipes, just don't make them better then mine please. My ego cant take it. Thank you for your time! |

The figures look good though. Sculpt can definitely be a pain. I'm still in the rookie stages with it. I get off and on quality. One day it looks perfect, next day, a kid with playdoh is better. lol Satanna and Tarantula though look fantastic. Fantastic work on those lines. |
Woot! Nice work!
Loving the Blizzard and Tarantula! Post some of these in the MU appreciation thread. |
Thanks for the feedback.
I do need to practice more on the sculpting. My problem is I think I've got it down, but then as soon as paint touches it, all these little imperfections I had no idea existed pop up. White spray paint in particular is a harsh mistress... |
Get Colorbond spray paint- it's made to bond to plastics. I used that and Krylon Fusion for my Moon Knight and the white came out smooth.
Love those customs! My suggestion to you is to replace the head with a Spidey head in a ROC Zartan hood. That Tarantula is the best- a great execution. |
I don't think they sell Colorbond over here, and apparently Krylon Fusion has too many solvents to be imported (it would need a hazmat warning!), but I think my problem is I'm not smoothing the sculpy properly. I'm too concerned about fudging any detail or shape. The spray paint just hangs a big neon sign over any imperfections.
Thanks for the advice though, I'll see if I can find something similar. |
