Display Units/Shelves

So as collectors and fans we all have our own way to display figures, shelves, bookcases, glass display cases, etc etc. Most of us also run into the same problem from time to time when our collections get larger and larger.

The idea behind this thread is for us to share ideas, products, solutions and methods of displaying our action figure collections.

For example, if you recently purchased a new shelf, designed and built your own shelf, here is a good spot to show it off (positives and negatives, dimensions, how much weight can it hold, figures per shelf). I love looking at photos of other collections, not just to see how many figures and what figures the collector has but how is it set up. I haven't seen a thread like this on here, not sure if anyone is interested in this like I am, but I figured lets give it a shot.

Everyone here has their own ideas on how to display thier stuff based on the room in which they are contained. I think most people here like that Ikea stuff. But in my case, my room has limited wall space due having doorways on three sides. A couple years ago I fell in love with the idea of modular shelving so that my display space can change easily and I can build them to the horizontal dimensions of the wall.

Heres some older photos since i dont feel like taking new ones right now:

See now thats a perfect example...Thank You B'morr. that actually gives me a good idea, I to am limited with wall space, with old posters, photographs, fan art framed and hanging up, plus doorways and windows, I need to maximize figures per shelf.

For european collectors I have to recommend Livarno Collector’s Display Cabinet. For under 80USD it is 27x43x8 inches you get very customizable glass home for more than 150 MU-sized figures. Unfortunatelly I do not know whether it is sold anywhere in U.S. I wrote exhausting review on my blog (see my sig) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fSZ_h03_YO...0/P9170347.JPG

This would be perfect! holds a good amount of figures, stops them from falling to the ground, keeps out of reach of children and pets. I could use something just like this.

Nice collection! the BAF Apocalypse looks GREAT with the MU figures

FancyPants 08-06-2012 11:40 AM

I love this thread. I'll make a proper post later. I can't find the target.com link for the shelves I use.

Bubba304 08-06-2012 11:45 AM

yeah I have three shelves from Target, and I always check the ones at IKEA and Walmart out, walmart has those glass display cases for under $100 (i think)...have thought about getting one or two but I just feel they still take up a good amount of space and don't maximize the amount of figures I could display in that area.

I do read all of the posts...well most of them, since there are SO many on here and facebook, matty, etc in regards to the issues people have with Digital River and Matty. I'm not ignorant to them, I just really want the plastic. I'm not happy with the prices, thats my only complaint.

mindmeldx 08-06-2012 11:50 AM

I use these old bookcases for my 6 inchers. I too have limited space so the displays rotate often.
they're 5'1 tall and 2ft wide.

whoa...thats PIMP! I've thought about adding lights to a display case when I do get a good one, they sell some good ones at IKEA for a decent price. I have a ton of Graphic novels, they too take up a ton of space...Job well done!!

thanks man! Those leds that make up most of my lighting I get from walmart. they're 8.88 by GE. they take six AAs but they last quite a while. Haven't had to change them yet.

FancyPants 08-06-2012 06:00 PM

I LOVE that star trek scene, the lighting is perfect. I'd love to do something like that.

FancyPants 08-06-2012 06:02 PM

This is one side of my bedroom. I'll take the other side soon. I really like these for my 6in figures because I can see everyone I own. The biggest problem sometimes is too many damn toys. A lot of my MU figures can't be seen. I think the white shelves are clean, however I've seen some gnarly glass ones. There's an arker who uses all glass. Looks like the future. I have a major problem with dust, being phoenix it's always dusty. Glass would just suck frankly

I can't go any lower than that second row. My son is getting taller every day, he's almost able to reach the MU guys from our bed. I'm going to add one shelf on the end for both levels. I'm going to need the 4th ML shelf, and a 3rd DC shelf could give me some spill over for more batman rogues along with general villains. I'm getting atleast one more for my front wall as well. I have no space for predators when I just bought a small shelf. I'm also doing a MISC video game related shelf or just biting the bullet and start getting arts kai and shfigarts (and the other lines that have arts in the title)

All you guys have some nice set ups. I am amazed at some of the creativity on these boards!! It is awesome. Here is some of my shelves. My Dad knows how to build a lot of different types of furniture so he custom made all my shelves. I designed them but that is all I helped with - though I did have to stain one shelf (not one unit...just one shelf...) It was all he would trust me with. I will try to post some more pics as I have a pretty big room. It was my only stipulation when my wife and I purchased the house.

orwell3825 08-06-2012 06:27 PM

Also, I am a horrible picture taker so sorry if the pics are bad.

FancyPants 08-06-2012 06:59 PM

I really like your setup. your room must be huge. You don't have little kids either lol. I'd love book cases.

Dark Hayabusa 08-06-2012 07:08 PM

Poor photo but I use a abandoned book shelf.

And that was over a year ago, so I'll be buying another from ikea

Dude that room is massive! I wish I had that space in my room....also wish I had the master craftsmanship skills your pops has. If I could I'd have my one wall completely covered with a bookcase like that then paint it to match the wall

That was a good find! always amazes me what some people get rid of...make sure you post a photo after you get the new piece from ikea! I loved having an Ikea right down the street from me in Virginia...here in jersey I have about an hour or so to get to the closest one.

I really like the IKEA Detolf glass door cabinet, but they look a whole lot better when you stack them on a base cabinet like in the attached pics.

It adds a lot of height so the displays are at eye level and provides useful storage space beneath which is otherwise wasted space.

I know I lucked up on getting a large room. But, as they say, no matter how much space you have it will soon be filled. I added some more pics to get closer to the shelves. I was amazed at what my old man could do. I wish I had paid more attention as a kid instead of crying because I wanted to watch Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends instead of holding boards to be cut and hold tape measures. The shelf with the Hot Toys and Stay Puff is just a 72" shelf from Lowes with brackets so nothing fancy. If anyone was wondering, the file cabinets below the Hot Toys are full of comics. Everyone who sees it always wonders!! I look forward to seeing more Arkers stuff!!!

i love checking out how other collectors display their figs and stuff. I went cheap when displaying mine...thumb tacks for carded figs, and i made my own shelves. 5, 10' x8" boards painted black on a bracket system. works well enough...i used some extra folding tables and left over garage shelving for some of my other things...never enough room though...so i hung my ships and planes from the ceiling, it saves alot of space and looks cool too!

DAMN!!!! what are the dimensions of your set up there? very impressive...this was similar to what I was thinking about with the glass display cases...but your idea of putting them on top of a base cabinet is SMART! how sturdy is it? does it bolt in?

I hear ya I wish I paid more attention to my dad when I was a kid rather than get distracted. Now he'd rather have someone else do the work. Great Idea with the filing cabinets...I have all 2000 of my comics bagged/boarded and stored in 12 plastic rubbermaid boxes...Horrible set up...takes up way too much space. I need to figure something else out and get rid of some...how many do you figure you can store in the filing cabinets ?

Scythe 08-06-2012 09:06 PM

I went with glass cases with studio track lighting above.

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/443a4460.jpg

I think most wooden glass cabinets, while nice, obscure the view of them due to the side paneling. So I would've gotten some of the Ikea detolfs, but when I saw em in person, they were alittle too small for what I was planning. These fit in perfectly.
