Question for anyone with the new TMNT Mikey

I know when his nunchucks are stored on his belt the chains show stress marks. I painted them to cover that up but has anyone had them brake? I've avoided putting them in his belt because I don't want them to break over time but they almost seem thick enough to handle it.

I've heard of no breaks so far. I think as long as you don't keep pushing them between extremes they will be fine.

I recently got my set from BlackDynamite the other day and I got the chucks placed in the holders, they're tight and do shows sign of stress, but I think would only break if I bent them the other way... personally thinking of adding real chains on them, may have to bug a fellow arker or 2 to help modify them.

I'd love to add real chains, I've seen others do it and it looks great. I just don't have the tools or the talent to try it.

I emailed Playmates directly and was sent a response that said they will not break, and even got photos of a pair that their quality control group was using to access the "problem". I am posting this message from my phone, but when I get home I will post the email and photos. Bottom line is Playmates doen't feel that these will break (even though all the rest of us do), and will not be addressing this any time soon.

I don't think anyone believes they will break. Stress marks are always cause for concern because they are noticeable but this is just a side effect of the plastic used. As long and you don't bend them repeatedly between extremes (bent one way and bent the opposite) there should be no issues with them breaking.

I've been told a hair dryer should take out the stress marks if they are bothering you visually, but I have not tested this myself so I can't guarantee it.

If u want to be certain, just don't fucking "play with it" like a 5yr old one, smashing it against things and being a dick. If you act like a collector, and pose them and leave them they will be fine... personally gonna add some metal to it and repaint them.

Well that's just no fun :P

I saw stress marks form when I started bend mine, so the way I store them is just to put 1 handle in each holder instead of both handles into 1 holder. Not ideal, BUT the nunchakus can still be stored and won't break that way.

trebleshot 08-17-2012 12:29 PM

^ I do that as well.

Though someday I might get enough ambition to add some chains to Mike's weapons and avoid the stress altogether.

Iceman 08-17-2012 12:36 PM

I don't think they will break unless you really try to but adding a chain is super easy with the right parts.

Here is the e-mail I received from Playmates as well as the two photos.

"Any of the nunchaku's I would send to you will do exactly the same thing and turn white when you bend them, it does not mean the part will break anytime soon. We had one here and it took a lot of bending and twisting to actually break it apart. I have attached a couple of pictures for you to see."
