Why a lack of love for Total Justice figs?

I think this is a fantastic line and the figures really looked great, but there seems to be very little interest in it. They don't even sell on eBay. What's the problem that everyone's aware of except for me?

DHeezy81 09-14-2012 05:33 PM

Nm, I had the wrong figures in mind...

ToyAddict 09-14-2012 06:07 PM

limited characters in the series
some of the characters are not the most popular incarnations of the figure (Green Arrow, Black Lightning, Green Lantern)
limited articulation

The sculpts are pretty good I guess but the lack of articulation, and some of the poses they are made in, limit playability -- puts them on par with Happy Meal toys almost.

lanternjv37 09-14-2012 06:23 PM

paying the 21 dollars for 1 6" isnt worth it. all of mattels 3.75" lines are horrible, i feel the same as ToyAddict and have called mattels work kids meal caliber figures.

dont mean to be a debbie downer! if i can buy them for 9 bux from HK then I do :-)

redx24 09-14-2012 09:11 PM

have the darkseid from this line. but the rest were not so great bought and sold them off quick. i did like the fact they did the superman with his longer 90's hair-do

snake5289 09-14-2012 09:18 PM

I still have The Flash, Batman, and Robin from this line. Lost all their armor but when I was little Flash was my all time favorite toy. I took it everywhere I went.

I hate "FIGURES" in molded stances. They then turn to Statues IMO.

Snowflakian 09-14-2012 09:49 PM

Tons of figures for the 90s JL, and it branched off into it's own outright JL line too.

The sculpts are amazing. I still have GL and Parallax, and at random times am looking for the GL in the polaris 2 pack. Might someday pick up a superman blue from this line too and Zauriel. Nowadays the line is mostly only good as a background piece(that's what I use classic Kyle Rayner GL and Hal Parallax as on my cosmic shelf).

To be blunt though, as awesome as the figures are, and the in the TJ line the accessories too, the limited articulation kills it. Even as a kid, the 5 point articulation annoyed me, and made me lean towards toybiz at the time other than the handful of must haves I just couldn't pass up.

To this day I've thought about picking up the extended figures. Just some to finish out like a Justice league icons museum statue display thingy.

Personally I have the figures from TJ only like:
GL Kyle (With GL armor accessory)
Batman (First one with the flight armor accessory)
Superman (classic long hair with solar armor accessory)
Aquaman (gold harpoon, atlantean armor accessory)
Huntress (with crossbows and armor accessories)
Hal Parallax (with power accessories)
Connor Queen Green Arrow (Bow and sight accessories)
Hawkman (Hawk God Accessory Armor)
Wally West Flash (speed Armor accessory)

Also the 4 issue comic miniseries too.

But the full list they made:

Batman Total Justice

Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner)
Robin (Tim Drake)

The downside is they all have 5-6 pts. of articulation. Sometimes 7 if they have wings.

The funny thing being this was hasbro/kenner back in the day. You could almost say it was a precursor to MU.

snake5289 09-14-2012 10:47 PM

Kenner WAS my childhood. I had like every Batman toy they made back then.

I had some of the batman stuff and some of the superman stuff. Still love the work they did on Conduit from the superman line. I still have the doomsday on display too since it fits in with MU/DCIH.

Snailbot 09-15-2012 12:11 AM

I had the entire first wave of this line. I still have Aquaman (because of my irrational love for Aquaman) but I never liked the line. Bad articulation and the figures were stuck in weird poses. Just my opinion but a line like Superpowers would have done a lot more for me.

warmachine6 09-15-2012 02:37 AM

i think i had batman one seemed no articulation basically okay for models but no playable or pose able material

bmorr 09-15-2012 05:13 AM

I just looked them up. Barf.

redx24 09-15-2012 06:27 AM

honestly i think this was where i noticed how kool a figure with articulation could be. darkseid despero and supes were to damn kool not to get at the time but really all they r are statues.

lanternjv37 09-15-2012 07:15 AM

-_- totally misread the topic sorry!!!!!! i enjoy the kyle rayner and parallax hal jordan figure. I liked them as childhood play rough figures but today, they're no good for displaying i feel

Crazy Jetty 09-17-2012 04:16 AM

Limited articulation is one thing... and these had pretty standard articulation for the day. But pre-posed figures were always aweful to me. So that completely ruined these for me then, and now.

Jason Abbadon 09-17-2012 05:39 AM

These had such detail...but the proportions are off badly on many of them- too long legs and arms, too narrow waists, etc.

Still, they blew me away when I first saw them- Kyle Rayner was great looking, if a plastic statue....which seemed the trend at the time with Spawn doing much the same.

Odd they never made Wonder Woman. Black Lightening but no Diana? Weird.

Well, that was still in the time of the toy company mindset of "Boys don't want or need girl characters."

The direct markets which catered to the adult collectors that they were still just discovering actually existed had figured out boys will buy girls. But Hasbro, Kenner, and Mattel hadn't figured this out yet.

...and sadly, we're still just barily beyond this mindset.

I guess Kenner figured that Huntress would be considered cooler than Wonder Woman. Also, Huntress was a Batman character, and got priority? I dunno. Wonder Woman wasn't considered as cool or well known then as a bat character.

Alchemist559 09-17-2012 07:27 AM

Are you talking about the Batman and Flash I have in this pic? Lol I have some in my B/S/T no bites.

The DMC 09-17-2012 08:31 AM

I gave away all the ones I had to Toys For Tots.

snake5289 09-17-2012 08:36 AM

That is still an awesome looking Bane. He fits in pretty good with 3 3/4 DC figures.

He could be yours lol.

Rane 09-17-2012 09:27 AM

The articulation is a big deal, but as someone mentioned, back then, it was pretty standard.

I never considered the "posed" aspect. I guess cause I'm older and not looking them as a kid, I thought they looked cool, even when posed.

I still think the look of them is very nice.

heard this in axel rose's voice like he was paraphrasing the GNR song u could be mine

bigkid24 09-19-2012 03:57 PM

They were okay for the time but the hyper musculature was ridiculous. I appreciated Kenner's approach of giving a ton of accessories vs Toy Biz's gimmick approach.

The Flash fig was probably my favorite but Parallax and Green Lantern were probably my other favs.
