Marvel General Discussion Thread (Non Toys)

Talk about the Comics, Movies, TV Shows, and anything else marvel that is not toy related. Use this as a general discussion for the Marvel Universe.

Alchemist559 09-18-2012 04:03 PM

Wow another thread!

SantaSpawn 09-18-2012 04:07 PM

Marvel officially announced James Gunn as Director for Guardians of the Galaxy. Any thoughts?

Iceman 09-18-2012 04:26 PM

I will just go on record saying I hate most of what Marvel is doing right now. Like Nick Fury Jr. and completely butchering Cyclops. Still they can't ruin my favorite characters because the old stories will always exist and I can forget the silly stuff.

That's a good point, 5 years from now are we even going to be talking about AvX?

Tiberius 09-18-2012 05:00 PM

I just want to put on record, that it seems that Bishop was right XD.

Shin Densetsu 09-18-2012 05:13 PM

I read that the Sabertooth Wolverine killed with the Muramasa blade was a clone.

UGH.

I only bought that arc because Simone Bianchi was doing the art. Then I hear Loeb is back on the title and brought Sabertooth back and is continuing that damn Romulus storyline.

I think Origin was the FARTHEST back in history that Marvel should have gone with Wolverine. All this retconning since then to his past has made Wolverine seem less appealing. His whole appeal before was that he was a bad ass hero who was definitely flawed and angry, but mysterious too. Like here's this guy who is pissed, doesn't remember much of his past, he's got problems, but he deals with it because he's the best there is at what he does.

Now he's the best there is at remembering damn near everything that makes him less cool in the process.

What are LMD's?

Tiberius 09-18-2012 05:38 PM

Live Model Decoys I think is what they are called.

bmorr 09-18-2012 05:46 PM

with the costume and character changes, im afraid the 616 universe is slowly moving towards the movie verse.

Yea I can see that happening. Some of the costumes are cool, others...not so much. But hey, thats life XD.

Agree.

I didn't follow that whole wolf clan thing. What is up with all the big sideburn wolverine people with claws and shit? Is Wolverine even a mutant or part of some wolf race?

I hope not. It's turned out to be so bad. I was hoping for more Civil War with both sides fighting for something they believed and both have valid reasons. Instead we get the demonizing of Cyclops. He had really come a long way from the team leader who was more comfortable being given a mission than picking one for himself.

Retcon retcon recon, fixes everything! I hate it sometimes. This is why comic book writers can't commit and always leave plots someone else can fill later however they want. The real bold moves in comics are picking something and sticking with it, especially a character death.

It's all marketing I guess. But what about armor Hulk and red X Cyclops?

Now this is a great thread, should have created this a while ago:)

Yeah I totally agree with this ^ The X-Titles are barely good now...

Yeah agree to this too, and Remus? What kind of female name is that? Almost sounds like Anus...

Which sucks, you think it has to do anything with Disney's influence since they own Marvel...

Was supposedly a wolf thing, but it was supposedly a lie Romulus told Wolvy from what I got.

Part of me really hopes so. But that's the same part of me that has faith that Marvel will actually do something with the actually not terrible storytelling they've wrought. The problem with storytelling the last several years has been a willingness to shake up the universe, but an unwillingness to CHANGE THE STATUS QUO. I mean imagine a Marvel world where the mutant communtiy actually HAS to change as a result of the actions of one of its own. Imagine a Marvel world where the Avengers are continually held accountable for their actions. In 5 years, you bet we'll remember this arc IF these changes actually hold.

Spoiler alert: they wont.

I don't think we have to be too scared. At least I hope not. When they first announced Marvel NOW you bet I was, but the more I think about it, the more I say nah. I mean we're not talking a DC reset. Our teams, once reorganized in comics, still have decades of histories, prejudices, and affairs to consider. Movies can't say that. Even with movie accurate costumes and furies. I think that once Marvel NOW hits, we won't have to be worried about Cap being Chris Evans, or Thor being Hemsworth. I think, optimistically, comics are comics.

but then why is the hulk wearing armor? :p

Dawn of the Dead, Slither and Super were good. With Marvel's track record so far and this being slated for summer, I suspect a medium-to-big budget tentpole with huge amount of fun/action and cameos.

Exodus 09-19-2012 10:25 AM

Any one get the new X-Treme X-Men? Supposedly Dazzler leads it. Kind of feels like Exiles and X-Men merged into one now.
