Figured I would make a Play Arts Kai discussion thread here as I have noticed a good number of you collect these figures. This won't necessarily be a news thread as any Play Arts Kai news we frontpage will have their own dedicated discussion thread in the news and rumors forum.

I love these figures but I hate the quality control problems. The right arm on my Arkham City Batman falls off a lot. My Gray Fox had a stuck right thigh swivel which took forever to free. I wish Square Enix would work on getting the figures to stand better as it can be a chore getting them to do so. Especially with the foot swivel(before the heel) on the MGS figures. Luckily I have had no breakages.

Well, I have quite a bit in the Play Arts department, but not so much for Play Arts Kai. It's been difficult even getting what I want. Like Mr. Jaeger for example. Bought him off Figure of the Day. They refunded me due to some inventory/SE/Kotobukiya errors and promised a chance at him whenever they get him in. Well, we all know how that turned out. :(

These are all the Kai figs I have at the moment:

• Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII) - My first PA Kai figure. Funny thing is I got the game the day it came out and I've only played like 45 min. of it, lol.
• Nero (Devil May Cry 4) - He's got two left feet and his Red Queen mounting peg broke off in the hole.
• Dante (Devil May Cry 4)
• Adam Jensen (Deus Ex: Human Revolution) - Very, very, loose hip joints.
• Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII-2) - Shoulder keeps popping off, forgot which one....

Pre-ordered:

• Meryl Silverburgh (Metal Gear Solid)
• Vergil (Devil May Cry 3)
• Commander Shephard -Female- (Mass Effect 3)
• Solidus Snake (Metal Gear Solid 2)

I've actually avoided a lot figs due to reviews showing off that ridiculous over-spray on the face. Passed on Kratos 'cause of that. The Tekken figures look splendid so far. I really hope they pump out more. I need at least a Yoshimitsu, and would love an Asuka Kazama. Also contemplating whether or not to get Garrus and looking forward to Agent 47.

Damn dude sorry to hear about the qc issues you encountered. I've found that most predominantly PVC constructed figure lines tend to have high qc issues. That's one reason why some collectors weren't too fond of Revoltech....

...and Play Arts Kai feels like a line of upscaled Revoltech with denser/heftier plastic plus much more paint apps.

I am starting to get into these.. I only have solid snake from MGS1 so far. I have bought adam jensen but it appears hes lost in the post. The seller is looking into it now for me..

I have seen the figures in person at a comic book shop in london, and just wondered why they make them such different scales? thats so annoying. The drakes deception figure is much smaller than the MGS figures, same with Batman and god of war, much smaller. Why do they do that??

I have a MIB Jungle Big Boss, and a God of War III Kratos I opened. I love my Kratos, but I will never be buying another one of these. If you look at the attached images, his wrist is broken and his boot was missing his knee plate. The store I bought it from could not do any exchanges because it no longer could be ordered, and they are a specialty shop, so all sales are final. Secondly, I contacted Square who chose to not do anything for me when all I asked was for replacement pieces.

It also does not help that these figures are way too expensive and Square does not seem to know how to handle female face sculpts. First off, I was at a convention two weeks ago and sellers wanted $100 for Solid Snake and $280 for Grey Fox. As for the face sculpts, Harley Quinn is just down right hideous looking.

Shin Densetsu's revoltech comparrison is quite apt. PAK doesn't have a consistant scale throughout all the different lines and, like in the early days of revoltech, the paint and face sculpts are inconsistant at times. That grey smudge in the face is what put me off buying arkham Joker, and the QC isn't the best. I've been lucky with my Solid Snake and Gray Fox. The only issue is sometimes gray fox's left leg pops off and the torso doesn't seem to be 100% lined up straight with the rest of the body. But not enough to ruin it. And, of course, they can't stand.
You're right not to get that snake Dr Kain, snake is worth no more than $70. He's big and detailed, but it's not a hot toys figure

Dr kain i feel your pain. i broke off solid snakes hand and ruined the joint. really it was my own fault, i should have been patient and stuck it in hot water before i pulled it out. nonetheless it snapped and i had to employ custom skills to sort it out. i an only use the one hand now.

i think they are over priced and do have some quality control issues. but i just absolutely love the sculpts.

i wish they were in the 6 inch scale though. they have some amazing licenses.

Hello everyone, I'm a play arts collector and I have a request to Square-enix PLEASE, stop doing play arts kai with issues. I have seventeen 100% genuine figures, three of them with several mistakes. The most relevant, Kazuhira Miller Peace Walker with two left feet. Cyborg Ninja Metal Gear Solid, again two left feet like Miller... and yesterday I bought Kratos at Amiami.com an then, one arm came broken and one of the blades is missing. Why are figures with missing accessories?? equal parts? broken pieces? please, improve the quality controls, these are an expensive figures that can't allow that BIG mistakes. I love play arts kai but I don't want more surprises.

Yesterday I received a package like every time I bought some figures. When I opened it, the first figure I take was Kratos, and when I open the cardboard tape I saw the first big mistake: where's the second blade?? I though, "not matter, surely it will be loose inside the box"... but my fears come true in two different ways. When I opened the kratos box... there's only ONE blade!! :( and the arm fell off, it was broken on the piece that bound him to the shoulder... :(

The other figure inside my order was Snake Jungle Fatigues play arts kai, in perfect condition... But Kratos was a disappointing surprise. The arm well... I can fix it with putty and a few holes, but... the blade?!? where's the blade?!? I can't clone another one with putty...

That sucks Kaz. For some reason the Kratos PAK figure keeps getting mentioned when it comes to quality issues. Last week I saw a Kratos in a store on discount, because it was missing a hand in the box.
Cyborg ninja having 2 left feet is a first. My ninja has slightly crooked torso, but is otherwise fine. Square Enix really need to up their game for the price they charge. Have you tried emailing square enix over this? By the way Kaz, your English is fine

Same exact breakage on my Arkham Batman. Very hard to repair, if even possible.

And Square-enix gives me no solution about this... well, you know what? yesterday I've done a trick in a wallmart, I bought another one and I change it... then I returned the broken Kratos to the wallmart like "oh look, is broken and this is the last one in stock". Square-enix disappointed me A LOT with this...

In this case, I approve of the old toy swap. Be sure to show of pics of your PAK collection. Lets see the ones that aren't broken

I'm happy non of my PAK figs have had any QC issues so far (I did have to modify Nathan Drake's arm a bit to fit in the socket better but thats about it), but I'm preparing myself for the day I get one that does....However, here's some PAK appreciation to brighten this thread up a bit. ;)

Your Joker... have a dark spot on the face?? like a bad paintjob... that was the reason what I never bought this PAK.

I love play-arts but I'm still afraid if the next one I'll buy will come with QC issues. :koopa

Finally I have answer from the store where I had bought Kratos:

"Unfortunately the quality of Play Arts Kai figures are not very high so these issues can be quite common. We do not have any stock of this item available to send to you as a replacement, unfortunately, and would like to instead offer you a 50% (2195 JPY) refund"

Dude I am honestly surprised and happy for you that AmiAmi even offered a refund. My friend bought a figure from them that was missing ONE TINY PIECE and I forgot what happened but it wasn't too pretty. Suffice to say he has stopped shopping from them.

It's funny that they admit that the Play Arts Kai quality isn't very high. That's the 1st I've heard of a retailer saying that. The paint apps and articulation is good but the quality control is very very unpredictable. Mainly because the material they use for the majority of the figures is PVC and the factory workers aren't waiting for paint to dry before putting figures together, thus, stuck joints.

Thanks! but I understand Amiami, they can't check every toy, every closed box (especially a PAK's box, very "closed" and dark inside) you will never know what's inside, specially coming from Square-enix (Aces of QC Issues). The problem comes from Square-enix, expensive figures (the modeling is awesome), if these figures comes with an issue, surely it will be a BIG issue :mad1. The only thing the retailer can do is offer you another figure or a refund, in my case it seems good to me.

Pd: and watchout the bootlegs / copy / fakes / asian versions / etc... are spreading like a virus, with an AWFUL paint apps.

Cool collection Kaz. I didn't know Advent Children Cloud came with the bike. I only have him as a single figure along with Sephiroth

For the 15th anniversary of the Final fantasy franchise, Square-enix is preparing a remake from some figures of FF, they only shown Rufus Shinra. But maybe, they will do a new Advent Children series. :D

I was going to collect the Mass Effect figures. I bought Ashley. But they just don't seem worth the ridiculous prices. I was totally disappointed with Ashley & will probably sell her off & skip collecting them. I don't think they're really worth more than $19.99 each.

I REALLY want Sam Gideon from Vanquish. That's one of my favorite games. But no way it's worth the ridiculous prices they're charging. He only comes with 1 gun. For that price he should come with all the different guns. What a rip-off!

Man this thread is kind of depressing I was just about to jump into collecting PAK figs. So far I have Chun-Li, Cammy, and most of the FFVII line up. And I was going to grab some more....now I'm going to rethink it.
